Social scientist with more than a decade’s experience in coordinating studies and providing high-level administrative support to studies and departments. I am passionate about system improvements and capacity building and have a keen interest in qualitative research and management.
A. WORK EXPERIENCE
I have assumed three roles since I started working at the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) in Kampala, Uganda in 2012.
2018 to date - (Senior) Research Administrative Officer:
My key roles are as follows:
• Accurate tracking of progress of departmental key performance indicators and preparation for quarterly reports for the IDI monitoring and evaluation unit. I have submitted 12 reports since 2018
• Recruitment of new administrators. I have facilitated the recruitment of 18 staff members in 2021 alone.
• Training of all departmental administrators on and support study coordinators with key administrative processes to ensure that adequate administrative support is provided for 80+ projects.
• Oversight and reconciliation of petty cash provided for >80 projects accounting to approx. USD 60,000/year.
• Support with the departmental procurement submission and prequalification’s of venders processes.
• Tracking IDI abstracts for local and international conferences and collation of IDI’s peer-reviewed research publications (>1030 in total).
• Support incoming professors in residence (PIR) during their visitations at IDI (2/year (pre-COVID-19))
• Support and/or coordinate scientific fora and training modules, including ensuring diverse and suitable speakers for the weekly research forum (until 2019) and the annual IDI science fair (since 2019).
• Coordination of meetings of executive committees including the Scientific Review Committees (until 2019)
• Maintenance of departmental study archive
2017 to date – Project Administrator of all pharmacokinetic (PK)-related studies
I support 5 PK studies with all administrative tasks, including site Initiation visits, procurement, transport and accommodation arrangements.
2007 to 2012 - Study Coordinator - [NIH Social Behavioral study]
Coordinated collaborative social behavioral study which evaluating the impact of anti-retroviral therapy (ART) on social, economic and risk behavior outcomes. This study was conducted in three (3) different study sites; namely, IDI (which was the coordinating center), Reach Out Mbuya and Mbarara Joint Aids Program (MJAP). I successfully oversaw recruitment targets, study data analysis, and capacity building including coordination of trainings for junior investigators.
B. KEY CONTRIBUTIONS TO IDI’S RESEARCH DEPARTMENT
2019 to date Co-developed systems for streamlining the departmental procurement needs
2018 to date Improved the department’s archiving process, including securing a space that accommodates all of IDI’s research projects and streamlining the archives for ease retrieval.
2018 to 2019 Developed departmental research policy. The policy was approved by IDI’s Executive Director.
