Andrew C. Strikwerda is a computational electromagneticist in APL’s Research and Exploratory Development Department. He
has a BA, an MA, and a PhD in physics, all from Boston University. His focus is on designing custom
electromagnetic components using high-fidelity simulation.
Additionally, he has substantial experience incorporating multi-physics effects such as electromagnetic heating and
structural deformation, as well as more complex behavior such
as nonlinear effects, chirality, and bi-anisotropy. Andrew has experience designing flat optics using metamaterials, silicon photonics components, resonant cavities, and sub-diffraction focusing devices, including work on the integration of metamaterials and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), local electric field enhancements, scattering, and beam characterization.
