RESEARCH INTERESTS
Dynamic Digital Menu, Kiosk, and POS Technologies: The study of how technology can be usedto display data and information in public venues and point of sale settings and how users react toand use these displays in decision making and evaluation of alternatives.
Virtual Worlds and Social Media:
The study of how technology can be used to display data andinformation in 3-D environments and how users react to and use virtual environments and socialmedia venues for collaboration, socialization, and interaction. This includes the use of geographicinformation systems, immersive virtual reality technologies, virtual worlds like Second Life, serious games, and similar environments for supporting both individuals and teams. Also of interest are issues related to the application and use of virtual worlds such as topics related to taxand government policy, fraud, social issues, and user reactions to and adoption of virtualenvironments.
User Embodiment and Representation
: The study of how our bodies influence our attitudes and behaviors in real as well as virtual settings. One aspect of this perspective is on how embodimentin combination with shared activities in shared spaces influences our perceptions of engagementwith the context and other social actors with which we engage. This process we call embodiedsocial presence and is at the heart of a theory we have proposed.
Location Intelligence and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
: The study of the role of locationin human information processing using, among other tools, geographic information systems, spatialimaging tools, and virtual worlds. This includes the study of GIS use in organizations, strategic business applications, market analysis, and environmental management and remediation. Other areas of interest include research that focuses on the nature of human decision processing usinglocation information, human processing of maps and location data, and the application of GIS togroup settings.
Mobile Commerce and Location Based Services
: The study of the role of mobile technologies inthe delivery of electronic commerce services. This includes the study of mobile devices, RFID,consumer behavior using mobile devices, the impact of mobile technologies on organizations, therole of location in the delivery of mobile commerce services, and theoretical linkages betweenmobile commerce and geographic technologies.
Group Support Systems & Collaborative Technology
: The study of the appropriation and use of information systems tools designed to support group work. This includes the study of media suchas e-mail, computer conferencing, video conferencing, and teleconferencing.
Security and Assurance
: The study of the issues surrounding risk management and security for theuse of information technology, data, and personal technologies. This includes the study of databasetechnologies, user interfaces, and the design of security systems
