Carlo A. Borghi (M'86) received the M.S. degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy, in 1976, and the Ph.D. degree in technical sciences from the Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in 1982.
In February 1983, he joined the Faculty of Engineering of Bologna, where now he is a full Professor in the field of electrical engineering. His research activities are related to plasma engineering, applied magnetofluid dynamics and electrofluid dynamics, theory and applications of electromagnetic fields. He has done experimental activities, theoretical studies, modeling, experimental data interpretations, and numerical activities (numerical solution of direct and inverse problems of magnetohydrodynamics and electromagnetism). The results of his researches are reported in more than 180 publications of which he is author or coauthor.
Dr. Borghi is a member of the Board of Directors, Vice-Chairman and the Treasurer of the International Liaison Group on Magnetohydrodynamic Energy Conversion. He is a member of the Technical Committee of AIAA Plasma Dynamics and Lasers (AIAA—American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics). He is the Secretary of the Technical Committee 25—Quantities and Units—and the Chairman of the Technical Committee 1—Terminology—of IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission). He represents IEC in the Comité Consultatif des Unités of the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures. He is the Chairman of the Technical Committee 1/25 Terminology, quantities and Units of CEI (Comitato Elettrotecnico Italiano). At present, he is the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Bologna.
