Career Trajectory
Bio
Dr. Carola Celada-Casero has recently joined the Materalia research group as a tenured scientist, where she has started a new research line on "hydrogen metallurgy". During the last years, she worked as principal researcher and project leader in the Applications and Engineering department of Tata Steel R&D, world leaders in sustainable steel manufacturing, and, previously, as a postdoctoral researcher at Delft University of Technology, in the Netherlands.
Her research interest is to understand the role of non-equilibrium phases in the microstructure evolution, metastability and mechanical performance of advanced high-strength steels with strategic applications in the automotive and health-care sectors. Her research has led to the development of new steels with improved strength-ductility combinations, contributing to lighten electric vehicles and to lower CO2 emissions in transport, by using more sustainable processing routes that avoid long thermal treatments and thus reduce the processing energy demand.
While working for the industry, she gained ample experience setting up experimental-numerical research activities by leading several funded research projects both as PI and coordinator via Dutch public and private funds (M2i , Tata Steel R&D) and European funds (RFCS). In particular, she worked in close collaboration with prominent academic and industrial researchers from various disciplines and played a key role as responsible for the knowledge transfer of fundamental phenomena like hardening, ductile-brittle fracture or hydrogen embrittlement, to support Tata Steel new programmes for steel grades development.
Since August 2021, Dr. Carola Celada-Casero leads the Forum “Energy Transition and Climate Change”, organized by the Spanish Technological Steel Platform (PLATEA) to tackle the ecological transition challenge of the Spanish steel industry. Additionally, she sits at the scientific and technological advisory committee of the "Oficina C" of the Congress of Deputies, whose mission is to support and to facilitate the communication with the scientific community.
