Bio
My self Dr. Ch Sateesh Kumar. I started my research journey in the year 2014 when I started my Ph.D. During my Ph.D., I worked on the deposition, characterization, and application of coatings like AlCrN, AlTiN, and TiAlSiN on the hard machining performance of mixed ceramic cutting tools. The work was focused on studying the effect of thin-film thickness, tool wear mechanisms, and the effect of coating technologies on the performance of the coatings. In my four years of Ph.D., I published 7 Q1 SCI papers and presented my work at 5 conferences. Later, I joined the Advanced Materials Group at Czech Technical University, Prague as a Postdoctoral researcher where I started working on the performance of DLC and WC/C low friction coatings during machining. Also, I worked on the performance analysis of TiAlCrN coating during machining. However, I had to leave this position due to the Covid-19 situation after 1.5 years. After my Postdoc, I joined Madanapalle Institute of Technology and Science where I worked for 1 year before I received a prestigious National Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Indian Government with a project that I will complete in December 2022. Later I received a Maria Zambrano fellowship for working at CFAA in Spain where I am presently employed. I am presently working on the development of self-lubricating micro-textured whiskers reinforced cutting tools with CrAlTiAgN and TiAlAgN coatings for the machining of superalloys. Also, I am working on the deposition, characterization, tribology, and performance analysis of high entropy alloy nitride coatings for machining applications.
I am having expertise in using machines like CNC lathes, Scanning electron microscopes, optical profilometers, and Transmission electron microscopes. Also, I can work with coating deposition machines, tribometers, and other characterization equipment. During my career, I have gained 6.5 years of research (including Ph.D.) and 2 years of teaching experience (after Ph.D.) in the field of surface engineering, material characterization, tribology of coatings, and machining tribology. Also, I worked with finite element software like Deform and Abaqus for doing machining simulations and studying the performance of coatings during machining.
I had also reviewed many papers for reputed journals of publishers like Elsevier, Springer, World Scientific, Inderscience, and so on. At present, I have a total of 20 publications (13 Journal articles, 6 conference papers, and 1 book chapter). Also, I have submitted two books to Taylor and Francis with the headings "Advanced Material Characterization Techniques: Present trends and future prospects" and "Thin-Films for Machining difficult-to-cut materials" which are expected to be published by end of this year. Also, I am handling two special issues as a Guest Editor in Sage journals namely, Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering, Part E (IMech), and Journal of Engineering Manufacture, Part B (IMech). I am also having experience in conducting International conferences and workshops. I had conducted 1 workshop (Thin-films in Manufacturing-2021) and 2 international conferences till now (ICME2-2021, ICTFPA-2022). Also, my team will be conducting another big conference Indo-European conference on Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Processing (IECAdvaMAP-2023) in February 2023.
