Chien-Chi Chang
Chien-Chi ChangChien-Chi Chang (1961-) was born in Taiwan but took his MSc at Indiana Univerity, USA in 1990 before becoming a staff photographer for The Seattle Times and later The Baltimore Sun. Chien-Chi Chang is now a member of Magnum, where you can see work including his portraits in a mental asylum in Taiwan, published in the book 'The Chain', as well as his rather jaundiced look at marriage in the book 'I Do I Do I Do'. His pictures of New York's Chinatown over the past ten years earned him first prize in the 'Daily Life Story' category of the World Press Photo competition in 1999; in the same year he also won a grant from the W Eugene Smith Memorial Fund for humanistic photography, the Visa d'Or in magazine photography at Perpignan and was Missouri/NPPA Magazine Photographer of the Year. His show 'China Town' is on display at the Julie Saul Gallery in New York until May 22, 2004, and there are also images online at Magnum. Friday May 7, 2004 | comments (0)
