Career Trajectory
Bio
Cristina Øie is a liver sinusoidal endothelial cell (LSEC) expert with a unique multi-disciplinary background in both liver biology and super-resolution optical microscopy. She is currently a primary investigator in the Vascular Biology Research Group at UiT.
Øie is the recipient of the 2018-2024 RCN-FRIPRO Young Research Talent grant for “Sugar Crush” and the recipient of the 2018 Young Researcher Prize at UiT Medical Faculty. She also holds several smaller internal grants where her role is a PI or Co-PI, including a recent RCN commercialization qualification grant as co-inventor for the development of potential therapeutics for NASH.
As a scientist with a keen interest in the field of liver biology, her research primarily focuses on understanding the role of LSECs in the development and progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease to steatohepatitis (NASH). Her research aims to understand the underlying mechanisms of LSEC dysfunction in NASH and identify potential therapeutic targets to prevent or treat this disease. She is using various cutting-edge techniques, including advanced imaging, such as super-resolution optical microscopy, transcriptomics, proteomics, and functional assays, to investigate the complex interplay between LSECs, other liver cells, and environmental factors that contribute to the development of NASH.
