Dr. Dudzinski is Professor & Chair of the Department of Bioethics & Humanities, Adjunct Professor in the School of Law and in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Washington. She is also Affiliate Faculty in the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics at Seattle Children's Hospital. She is Chief of the UW Medicine Ethics Consultation Service, which is active in three UW Medicine hospitals.
She was a member of the American Society for Bioethics & Humanities Board of Directors and the Task Force to update the Core Competencies in Health Care Ethics Consultation. She is also on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Bioethics and Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics. She has co-directed the annual Summer Seminar in Health Care Ethics for over a decade.
Her articles often pertain to clinical and organizational ethics and have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Pediatrics, Hastings Center Report, Theoretical Medicine & Bioethics, the American Journal of Bioethics, the Journal of Clinical Ethics, the Journal of Medical Ethics, and Annals of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Dudzinski co-edited Complex Ethics Consultations: Cases that Haunt Us published by Cambridge University Press.
Dr. Dudzinski has developed an ethics curriculum for residency programs and teaches bioethics to health care providers, medical students, graduate, and law students at the University of Washington and affiliated hospitals.
Her research includes methods and practices in ethics consultation; clinical and organizational ethics; ethical issues in transplantation and mechanical circulatory support; large-scale adverse event disclosure; competent refusal of nursing care; moral distress; and ethical issues in end-of-life care.
