Ing. Héctor de Paz Carmona PhD graduated in 2011 in Chemical Engineering from the University of La Laguna (ULL). In (2012), he graduated in the M.Sc in Chemical Engineering at ULL. In 2013, he started his PhD at the CEPSA refinery in Tenerife with an FPU Grant, studying the effect of waste cooking oil co-processing in an industrial hydrotreating unit.
During his PhD, Dr Carmona made three stays in two international research centres (ORLEN UniCRE a.s. for 7 months and CEPSA Research Center for 3 months (2+1)), in which he carried out part of the experimental work. In September 2017, he finished his PhD in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at ULL, with the honours of SB CUM LAUDE and International Thesis Mention.
From January 2018 to December 2021, he worked as a Scientist researcher (Junior Researcher 2018-2019 and Senior Researcher 2019-2021) in the biomass laboratory at ORLEN UniCRE, becoming the main researcher of the DEHTY project, part of the ORLEN UniCRE projects. During the academic year 2020/2021, Dr Carmona also worked as an assistant teacher at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, providing lectures and co-supervising two thesis dissertations of university students.
Nowadays, Dr Carmona continues working at ORLEN UniCRE a.s. He is also a temporary contracted professor at ULL since October 2021, providing lectures related to chemical engineering and supervising graduate thesis dissertations.
His research interests are focused on developing new catalytic materials and biofuels. As a result of his research work, during the last years (2018-2022), he has published 20 research articles in high impact factor journals, 1 patent and 3 utility models (1 patent and 1 utility model under evaluation). He has participated in numerous international/national conferences (> 20). He is a usual reviewer in numerous journals in his field and Guest Editor of a Special Issue on an MDPI Materials journal.
As of March 2022, Dr Carmona will start a distinguished researcher contract at ULL, within the call for excellence program María Zambrano 2021.
