In 1993, I began my research career with a FPI grant, at the UCLM, working on amorphous magnetic materials with Prof. J.M. Riveiro. In these early years I worked in electrolytic techniques for films deposition and dendritic growth of amorphous materials, and also using high energy mechanical alloying.
In 1995 I started my PhD, working on magnetic materials obtained by sputtering. I did my PhD on multilayers and alloys based on Gd-Co. During these years I mounted and developed several experimental techniques for the first time in the laboratories at the UCLM (sputtering, VSM, a home-made MOKE installation and a system for electrical transport measurements).
In 2002 I did a postdoctoral stay at the University of Durham (UK) conducted by Prof. B.K. Tanner, where a learned and worked on reflectivity of x rays on magnetic multilayers. When I came back, I worked on starting up a new sputtering system to grow multilayers on an automatic way.
During the last years, I worked actively in setting up a new system of fabrication of magnetic nanoparticles using a cluster-gun by gas phase aggregation. These cluster-gun has been added to a versatile vacuum chamber sputtering that allows the deposition of various matrix materials by sputtering. We have fabricated and studied magnetic Co nanoparticles. We have studied the Exchange-Bias effect in core-shell Co/CoO nanoparticles and its dependence with different matrix.
In 2014, I started a new research line about the growth of epitaxial thin films and multilayers of complex metallic oxides for multiferroic applications. We have worked on the design and building of a new sputtering chamber to grow these oxides at high temperatures. This new line of research was financed by a MINECO project of which I was co-IP together with Prof. M. A. De la Torre. Also, in this project I directed my first PhD thesis (we obtained a PhD grant).
In the last years, in addition of the previous lines, I have come back to the fabrication and study of thin films and multilayers, starting a collaboration with Prof. Svalov (Urals University, Russia) and Prf. Kurlyandskaya (UPV/EHU, Spain).
During these years of my research career, I have made several stays in large scale facilities:
- ESRF (Grenoble): ZMaS (BM28) and Spline (BM25)
- ISIS (Rutherford Appleton Lab. CRISP line
