个人简介
Juergen Liebig studies central features of insect societies such as reproductive division of labor, hierarchy formation, chemical communication, and individual plasticity. He and his group members use behavioral experiments, molecular and neurophysiological approaches, and chemical analyses to reveal mechanisms and evolutionary patterns that shape the organization of ant and termite colonies. A major focus of his research is the question of how surface chemicals of queens regulate reproductive division of labor. After major contributions to the establishment of the importance of cuticular hydrocarbons as fertility signals or queen pheromones, he expanded this research to include general questions such as how olfactory receptors discriminate between odor molecules. Given the interdisciplinary and integrative nature of his research approach, Prof. Liebig collaborates with teams in different countries in the fields of chemistry, genomics, neurophysiology, and computational and developmental biology.
