个人简介
Dr. Sack, born in Duisburg, Germany, received a M.C.S. ("Diplom") degree from the University of Bonn, Germany, and a Ph.D. from McGill University, Montreal, in 1979 and 1984 respectively. His research interests include algorithms, data structures, distributed and parallel computing, computer graphics, geographic information systems and foremost computational geometry. He is editor-in-chief of the journals Computational Geometry-Theory and Applications, and Journal of Spatial Information Science, and editor of The Journal of Visualization and Computer Animation. In 1996 he was awarded an industrial NSERC Chair in Applied Parallel Computing with a focus on spatial modeling; in 2001, the Chair was renewed with participation by SUN Microsystems. He is the principal investigator in an R&D project supported in part by SUN and NSERC on developing an intelligent system for Geographic Information Services. He has been theme and project leader for the NCE(Networks of Centers of Excellence) Geoide. For 2000-2001 Dr. Sack received a Carleton University research award. He is a founding member of and Carleton's leading scientist in the High Performance Computing Virtual Laboratory. He has been a member of NSERC's Committee on Research Partnerships and is currently a member of the Committee on Grants and Scholarships and has been Group Chair for Mathematics/Statistics/Computing and Information Sciences. Dr. Sack has been a member of, and Carleton's liaison for, Nelligan O'Brien Payne's Consulting Group on Intellectual Property. He has also been a member of the C3.ca Board of Directors. He has been appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board of the Zuse Institute, the Scopus Content Selection & Advisory Board and subject chair for Computer Science of Elsevier Science, and the College of Reviewers for the Canada Research Chairs programme. He has been serving on an advisory committee to the DFG (German Research Council) for the Excellence Initiative where, for the third round of applications, he is now a member of the joint commission. He has been a member of the National Resources Allocation Committee for Compute Canada. He serves as Science Advisor to the German Embassy, Ottawa. and has been appointed a SUN-HPCVL Chair. Most recently, he became a member of the committee on G8 Research Councils Initiative on Multilateral Research Funding.
