Linh Thi Phuong Nguyen obtained a Ph.D. degree (2022) and an M.S. degree (2018) at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), National Cheng Kung Univerisity (NCKU), Taiwan. Nguyen received a distinction bachelor's degree in Physics (2016) at the Department of Nuclear Physics, Faculty of Physics, Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam National University (VNU-HUS).
During her Ph.D. training, Nguyen has participated in various research projects relative to atomic force microscopy (AFM), indentation, machine learning, statistic, physics, and so forth. Significantly, Nguyen’s research is a pioneer work in AFM-based nanomechanical measurements, which is the development of machine learning frameworks for reducing measurement uncertainty in AFM-based nanomechanical measurement through the selection of appropriate elastic contact models and the determination of elastic modulus. This study has been recognized by international media in the field of nanoscience, e.g., got mentioned in the editorial feature of the AZO Materials journal-a leading online publication of the Materials Science community (2022), got mentioned in NCKU News, and listed at the top of the most downloaded articles in the last 90 days in the European Journal of Mechanics/ A Solids (May 2022).
Nguyen was certificated in the top 10% of doctoral graduants that were excellent in academic performance as well as moral conduct by Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society of the Republic of China in June 2022. Moreover, Nguyen received the NCKU Veritas et Conscientia Scholarship for outstanding Ph.D. students for the 2021-2022 academic year, and NCKU distinguished international student scholarship for both master's and Ph.D. programs.
Nguyen was selected as one of three MSE graduate students for participating in the SAKURA Exchange Program in Science at JAIST, Japan in 2019.
Nguyen presented at several international conferences and symposiums, i.e., NCKU-Kanazawa Joint Symposium at NCKU (2019), International Symposium on Advanced Materials and Devices (2019), and International Conference on Machining, Materials and Mechanical Technologies in Vietnam (2018).
Nguyen was certificated as an excellent graduant by VNU-HUS and received VNU distinguished student scholarship for 3.5/ 4 academic years (2012-2016).
Nguyen interned at Dalat Institute for Nuclear Research (04/2016) and received a VNU-HUS certificate in the student research competition. Nguyen participated in the 4th Particle Physics School in South-East Asia (2015) and ASIA Computational Materials Design Workshop (2015).
