Dr. Asif Mehmood is Senior Research Engineer at Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). He serves as a senior technical specialist and researcher with extensive experience in developing and implementing algorithms in the areas of signal processing, pattern recognition, image processing, and machine learning. His research primary focus is in area of target detection, pattern recognition, target tracking and classification. He is currently working on several Deep learning based projects such as super resolution, style transfer, image segmentation, image augmentation using generative adversarial network (GANs), autoencoders and variational autoencoders, target tracking and classification. Prior to joining AFRL, he worked as Lead Scientist at Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) for three and half years. At BAH, he was Involved in developing proof of concept for BAH investment for standoff chemical agent detection using airborne Hyperspectral data. He was an active member of diverse teams performing classified work to accomplish DOD technical objectives, and evaluating the small business initiative research (SBIR) projects. He also worked at Army Research Laboratory for three years where he applied his knowledge and expertise in acoustic sensing/imaging, modeling, signal and image processing algorithm development. During his tenure at Army Research laboratory (ARL), he has demonstrated his expertise by developing and implementing algorithms for acoustics and radio frequency sensory data to detect human motion in conjunction with other intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance sensor data. He also developed and implemented anomaly detection and fusion algorithms in the realm of ATR using forward looking infrared (FLIR) imagery data while working at ARL. He was actively involved in human detection project jointly supported by Air force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The focus of this project was to develop a reliable method to detect human using their skin Hyperspectral signatures. He has excellent communication skills and has demonstrated by communicating complex technical and other information across multiple levels with minimal guidance. He has documented results in technical reports, journal articles, conference papers, and presentations at peer conferences, and was also involved in writing proposals.
