个人简介
Michael Daramola is a global scholar with training, teaching and research experiences from The Netherlands, France, United States, South Africa, Singapore, Ghana and Nigeria. He is a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.) with the Engineering Council of UK and a COREN-registered Engineer with the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria. He is a NRF-rated researcher with a sustained record of research productivity and quality research evaluated and benchmarked by the South African National Research Foundation recognized by peers in his field. To-date, Michael has supervised to completion 53 graduate students (21 PhDs and 32 masters) and mentored more than 15 early career researchers/academics (more than 12 postdocs, 1 FLAIR Fellow, and 3 junior lecturers). Presently, he mentors seven early career researchers/academics (including four postdocs and three junior lecturers) in his department. He has secured about 1 million USD (about 20 million ZAR) to support his research and his work has earned him awards and recognitions such as inclusion in the World’s Top 2% scientists since 2021. Michael has contributed enormously to knowledge creation in engineering with more than 200 publications (160 journal articles, 15 book chapters, 2 patents, 2 edited books and more than 40 referred conference proceedings). His publications have been cited more than 3300 times with H-index of 31. His primary research, which is interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary, focuses on clean and sustainable energy, environment, with major activities in application of nanomaterials and nanocomposites in energy, environment, waste treatment, and valorisation. The research, which has a two-fold focus with a good balance between fundamental research and industrial application, provides understanding and develops concepts towards providing solutions in sustainable chemical engineering practice. The research is inherently related to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and therefore has clear impacts, if not immediately but in the medium term, on the health and wellbeing of human. Michael holds a BSc Eng. (Hons) and MScEng degree in Chemical Engineering, a MSc degree in Biotechnology (Process Technology option), a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, a PGDip in Higher Education and a Certificate in Academic Leadership from GIBS. He holds a certificate in Research Management and Leadership from IREX (www.irex.org/uasp) with 4 weeks of intensive training at Michigan State University, USA. In addition, he holds a certificate in Research Management and Leadership from George Mason University, USA with 70 hours completed within CEU program. He was a finalist in the South African Oscar Science award in 2022, a Carnegie Corporation of New York’s Fellow in Research Leadership, a Nuffic Fellow, etc. He serves on editorial board of some reputable journals such as ACS Sustainable Chemistry and Engineering; Materials Today Proceedings, Ground Water for Sustainable Development, Membranes, Frontiers in Chemical Engineering. He is a National Panel Member and vice chairperson of South African Bureau of Standard’s (SABS) Technical Committee on carbon dioxide capture, transportation and geological storage (SABS/TC 0265 or ISO/TC 265). He is also a national panel member of the SABS technical committee on ISO/TC 323 “Circular economy”. Presently, he is a full professor and the Head of Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
