Career Trajectory
Bio
Mikaël Cugnet received the B.S. degree in control engineering in 2008, and Ph.D. degree from the University of Bordeaux I, Bordeaux, France, with his Ph.D. thesis entitled “Ageing integration to the management of an automotive lead-acid battery”, in collaboration with the LAPS (control engineering), the LRCS (electrochemistry), and the French car manufacturer PSA Peugeot Citroën (automotive innovation and research department).
He is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute, Honolulu, with Dr. Bor Yann Liaw and works on battery modeling and diagnosis. He is the author of 11 papers and has filed a European patent and three French patents. He has attended nine conferences. His research activities are the study of the physical causes of the Peukert's law in lead-acid batteries (active surface change and diffusion processes), the design of a 1-D-mathematical model of flooded and VRLA lead-acid batteries (experimentally validated), and the path dependence degradation analysis of the Li–ion battery for PHEV applications.
Dr. Cugnet has been a member of the Electrochemical Society since 2008.
