Bio
Dr. Richard Foster is a Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics within the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences. Richard is a member of the Research to Improve Stair Climbing Safety (RISCS) group and Alder Hey Orthopaedics Research Group, within the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University.
Richard's research focus spans both paediatric and older adult populations, by investigating the compensatory mechanisms required from a biomechanical and sensory perspective to avoid tripping and falling, during activities of daily living such as overground gait, targeted stepping, obstacle crossing and primarily stair negotiation.
Dr Foster’s track-record in devising visual cues that reduce older adult trip/fall risk on stairs and obstacles is evidenced by sustained funding over a nine-year period, totalling ~£349,500 from funders including the NIHR Public Health Research programme, Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group and the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration North-West Coast. In this particular research field, Dr Foster has previously published 1 NIHR report, 13 peer-reviewed publications, delivered 1 international symposium, and presented several oral/poster presentations at international/national conferences.
Dr Foster has supervised 2 PhD students to completion, with 4 PhD student supervisions ongoing.
