Stephen is a Lead Scientist/Plant Physiologist in the USDA-ARS National Soil Dynamics Laboratory, Auburn, AL. As Lead Scientist, he provides leadership for the global change and waste management research groups in support of ARS National Program 212 (Soil and Air) to develop knowledge for reducing atmospheric greenhouse gases through management of agricultural emissions and carbon sequestration thereby enabling agriculture to adapt to climate change. This encompasses the investigation of complex belowground processes which control trace gas fluxes, plant productivity, and carbon/nutrient dynamics, including the role of root systems and residue decomposition. Ongoing projects: Elevated CO2 Research, Conservation Tillage, Animal Waste/N Management, & Inelastic Neutron Scattering Analysis.
