He has over 30 years of professional experience in academia and industry. He has made original contributions to the areas of multiscale control of PE systems at the semiconductor device level; high-frequency-link PE, including hybrid-modulation-based pulsating-dc-link inverter and differential-mode-converter topologies for applications encompassing but not limited to renewable and alternative energy, EVs, SST, energy storage, and offshore wind; discretized high-frequency and Boolean energy and data transfer; and optically-controlled power semiconductor devices and PE. He served as a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE PELS (2016-2019). Since 2019 he serves as the Editor-at-Large for IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, the leading journal in PE. He has been/is the Guest EiC and Editorial Board Member for IEEE TPEL, TII, TIE, JESTPE, and TAES. He serves as an Administrative Committee Member and a Member at Large for the IEEE PELS since 2015 and 2020, respectively. He also served as the General Chair for IEEE PEDG 2023 Conference and served as a Chair for the IEEE PELS's TC on Sustainable Energy Systems between 2015-2020.He is the recipient of the 2023 IEEE PES's Ramakumar Family Renewable Energy Excellence Award. He received IEEE Trans. on PE Prize Paper Awards (2022, 2002) and Highlighted Papers (2023, 2022, 2018), Featured Article for IEEE Trans. on Biomedical Engineering (2023), IEEE Conf. Best Paper Award (2013), IEEE Outstanding Paper Award (2007), and IEEE International Future Energy Challenge Award (2005). He also received Stanford University’s top-2% most-influential-scientist recognition (2022) and Elsevier recognition for being top 2% researcher in their fields for career-long productivity as well as top 2% researcher with single-year impact (2021, 2022). He is the recipient of the most prestigious awards at UIC, including Distinguished Researcher Award in Natural Sciences and Engineering (2020), Inventor of the Year Award (2014), and University Scholar Award (2013). Earlier, he received the prestigious U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Award (2005) and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award (2003).
