个人简介
Vitor Francisco graduated in Chemistry from University of Coimbra in 2008 and completed a PhD degree in Physical Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2014 where he contributed to the field of drug delivery using supramolecular chemistry. Since obtaining his PhD degree, he joined the group of Lino Ferreira, ERC and ERA Chair grantee, at Center for Innovative Biomedicine and Biotechnology with a post-doctoral fellowship where he is currently focusing on controlled delivery of drugs mainly for ageing-related diseases. V. Francisco has published 21 articles (+2 under revision) in international peer-reviewed journals ranked in the highest quartile (Q1), h-index of 12, and has 1 patent registered. He is reviewing editor at Experimental Results (Cambridge Uni. Press) and has been reviewer in various reputed journals such as Small, Chem Eur J, Nanoscale, among others. Over the years, V. Francisco has been integrated in the team of several research projects funded by European Commission, Gobierno de España (Agencia Estatal de Investigacion) and Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT). Moreover, V. Francisco has also participated in several national and international conferences often contributing with oral presentations (8 in total), including an invited lecture to the AEICBAS Biomedical Congress. Since 2018, V. Francisco is the Principal Investigator of 1 project, where he has been coordinating a team of 3 people with the objective of developing a platform for the delivery of RNA-based therapies. As part of this project he has: (i) successfully synthesized a light-activatable NP library for efficient in vivo delivery of small non-coding RNA, (ii) developed nanoformulations which were more efficient than Lipofectamine (a commercial agent) in cell transfection and RNA silencing and, more importantly, capable of release the small non-coding RNAs in a temporal-controlled manner and (iii) demonstrated the high efficacy and significance of light-triggered microRNA delivery in a wound healing animal model. Part of the results of this, still ongoing, project have already been published in high/medium impact journals such as (Angew Chemie; IF = 15.34), Nanoscale (IF = 7.79) and Nanoscale Horizons (IF = 10.989). Alongside his research activities, V. Francisco has experience teaching in regenerative medicine and advanced therapies courses at Master and PhD level. Throughout the years he has mentoring/tutoring 7 graduated students, and he is currently supervising one Master student, two PhD students and a post-doctoral researcher. He was elected CIBB post-doctoral representatives (2016-2018), where he was involved in one evaluation of the host institution and also in the organization of a symposium for PhD students and Post-Doc researchers. V. Francisco has also contributed to several outreaching activities with the general public as well as high-school students, such as European Research Night or Science Fairs and participated in TV/radio shows as Mentes que Brilham (Porto Canal) and 90 segundos de Ciência (Antena 1).
