Optimization and thermal characterization of uniform silicon micropillar based evaporators

•Effective optimization of micropillar evaporators is performed with a constrained superheat.•Dryout heat flux and heat transfer coefficient are dependent on micropillar geometries.•Heat transfer coefficient increases with higher micropillar diameter/pitch ratio and shorter height.•Good agreement between model predictions and experimental results is demonstrated.
