Abstract
This paper establishes a model to study the energy performance of human load carriage with a variable damped suspended backpack. The model is expanded from a vertical double-mass coupled-oscillator model which is adopted to predict the load movement and energy consumption. Simulation is conducted to demonstrate the displacement in vertical of elastically-suspended backpack and human body. The prototype was designed and pilot experimental result was given.
