The giant kelp Macrocystis pyrifera is a foundational species in marine coastal ecosystems, yet its microscopic life stages are particularly vulnerable to warming and pollution. We examined its seasonal phenology over an annual cycle initiated under the 2023—2024 El Niño warming at Horcón (central Chile), a coastal site strongly influenced by long-term industrial activity. Sori were collected in austral spring and summer to winter, and in vitro cultures were used to quantify settled spores, germination, gametophyte and sporophyte development, sex ratio, fecundity, and reproductive success. Sea surface temperature (SST) data showed strong seasonal contrasts, with warm anomalies in summer-autumn linked to the coastal El Niño, followed by markedly cooler conditions in winter. Winter cultures, after El Niño waned, reached 220,500 spores cm⁻2, nearly ten times higher than in spring and autumn and twenty times higher than in summer. Germination peaked in winter (96—100
PurposeThis study aims to investigate how social media recommendations influence investor attention and retail investor activity in stock investing.Design/methodology/approachUsing data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)'s 2023 Adult Financial Literacy Survey across a sample of countries, the analysis employs a logistic regression model. To address potential endogeneity, both instrumental variable and propensity score matching techniques are applied.FindingsInvestor attention to social media influencers shows a positive and significant effect on stock investment. After adjusting for endogeneity, the main results remain robust. However, the moderating role of digital financial literacy is not consistent across all countries in the sample.Research limitations/implicationsThe influencer recommendation question was newly introduced in this survey, limiting longitudinal comparisons. Additionally, the results are based on self-reported data from four countries.Originality/valueThis research contributes to the emerging field of digital behavioral finance and offers insights for the design of financial inclusion and education policies in increasingly digital environments.
Psychological skills of athletes determine their sporting performance. However, the development of these skills requires a learning process, influenced by the athlete's environment. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between an empowering and disempowering climate, motivational orientation (ego vs. task), and the sport psychological profile in a sample of football players. A total of 328 young players aged between 14 and 18 years (M= 15.85; SD= 1.44) participated in this research. Data was collected using the Psychological Inventory of Sport Execution, the Empowering and Disempowering Climate Questionnaire, and the Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire. The results obtained in this study through structural equation analysis showed significant and positive relationships between empowering climate and task orientation, as well as between disempowering climate and ego orientation. Similarly, positive and significant relationships were found between task orientation and the athlete's psychological skills. Moreover, there were positive and indirect relationships between an empowering climate and the athlete's psychological variables. These results suggest the importance of promoting appropriate motivational climates, as well as directing the athlete's motivation towards learning goals to foster the development of psychological skills on young players.
Thermal correlators in holographic CFTs on a sphere exhibit bulk-cone singularities at points connected by null geodesics in the bulk. The operator product expansion analysis of the stress-tensor sector of the correlator shows that there are analogous singularities at spacelike separation for thermal CFTs on a plane. We show that these are associated with complex null geodesics. There is a phase transition between the real and complex spacelike geodesics underpinning this picture. We also provide a phase-shift calculation of the position of these generalised bulk-cone singularities.
We determine the universal part of pseudoentropy for small shape deformations of spherical entangling surfaces in the context of de Sitter/conformal field theory (dS/CFT) correspondence. The leading correction at quadratic order in the deformation parameter is controlled by the analytic continuation of the coefficient of the two-point stress-energy tensor correlator in AdS/CFT (i.e., L star jAdS -> -i L star jdS), thereby establishing the sphere as a local extremum. The same structure holds in higher-curvature theories, as we check explicitly for quadratic curvature gravity, suggesting a universal behavior across nonunitary holographic CFTs. Our findings extend the Mezei formula to the dS/CFT setting and indicate that the shape dependence of pseudoentropy in dS holography resembles that of entanglement entropy in AdS space. Thus, we conjecture this coefficient to be the CT for the nonunitary CFT dual.
