Introduction. The objective of the present investigation was to determine if emotional dependence and self-esteem predict psychological well-being in Peruvian university students. Method. A predictive and cross-sectional design study was developed. There was the voluntary participation of 465 university students from the city of Tarapoto, of which 252 (54.2%) were men, whose ages ranged between 18 and 35 years (M = 21.26 and SD = 2.92). To measure the variables, it was used; the scale of emotional dependence of Lemos and Londono validated by Ventura and Caycho (2016), the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (EAR), and the (2018) Psychological well-being scale (BIEPS-A). Results. The results show that emotional dependence and self-esteem significantly predict psychological well-being (chi(2) (50) = 180.1, p < .001, CFI = .934, RMSEA = .079, SRMR = .072). Discussion or Conclusion. It is concluded that self-esteem significantly predicts psychological well-being, while emotional dependency has a negative effect, although of a lesser degree and without statistical significance in university students in the city of Tarapoto, Peru.
Introduction: cardiovascular diseases represent the leading cause of mortality and hospitalization worldwide. Among them, non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndromes are a common manifestation. In Argentina, disparities in access to specialized services hinder a uniform approach to this condition. Objective: the RENASCA.AR registry aimed to characterize the clinical, therapeutic, and evolutionary profile of patients with NSTEACS across different levels of healthcare in the country. Methods: a prospective, multicenter study was conducted, including 679 patients hospitalized in 31 centers between November 2022 and December 2024. Results: the mean age was 63 years, and 27.1% were women. The most frequent clinical presentation was NSTEMI (65%), followed by unstable angina (25%) and MINOCA (10%). Coronary angiography was performed in 90% of patients, with a median time to procedure of 22 hours. The overall rate of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was 67%, significantly higher in men than in women (67% vs. 45%; p<0.001). In-hospital mortality was 1.4%, and the composite event rate (death and/or decompensated heart failure) was 11.1%, with a higher prevalence in women than men (15.2% vs 9.6%; p<0.04). Conclusions: RENASCA.AR revealed a high use of invasive strategies and low overall mortality, although with significant sex-related differences. This registry provides key insights into the current management of NSTE-ACS in Argentina and highlights the need to improve access and equity in cardiovascular care.
Objective: to explore parents' perceptions of the care pro-vided during their children's hospitalisation in a neonatal intensive care unit. Methods: this qualitative study was conducted in a public hospital and included 13 parents whose children required neonatal intensive care. Interview data were analysed using thematic content analysis, while infor-mation from medical records was used to characterise the clinical profiles of participants. Results: participants reported satisfaction with the humanised care and supportive approach provided by the multiprofessional care team. Dis-satisfaction was expressed regarding the presence of other family members, which was considered inappropriate given the vulnerability of the neonates. Parental involvement in care strengthened emotional bonding as well as confidence and a sense of security in handling the infant. Initial feelings of fear and anxiety evolved into hope and gratitude over time. Conclusion: care in neonatal intensive care units ex-tends beyond the neonate, encompassing family support and promoting emotional well-being and healthy development. Contributions to practice: the findings highlight the need to enhance care practices in neonatal intensive care units by fostering effective communication, providing emotio-nal support, and encouraging parental involvement in care.
Objective The present study aimed to relate parental support, demand, and psychological control with heterogeneity in beliefs about the legitimacy of parental authority during emerging adulthood. Background Previous research has established a relationship between parental styles and the beliefs about the legitimacy of parental authority in adolescents, which varies according to the domains defined by the social-cognitive domain theory. However, it is unknown if this relationship is maintained in emerging adulthood.Method A total of 2,745 Chilean young people aged 18 to 30 years were surveyed. Through a latent class analysis, types of young people with heterogeneous beliefs of parental legitimacy were identified. Results Three distinct groups emerged: a group that legitimized parental authority for all issues consulted (i.e., personal, prudential, and multifaceted), a group that legitimized authority only for prudential issues, and a group that denied parental legitimacy for all issues. Furthermore, a multinomial regression showed that the probability of young people belonging to the different classes was related to parental demand and support and was independent of psychological control. Conclusion This result provides a better understanding of the role of parenting in the legitimacy that young people give to parental regulations during this stage.Implications The results indicate that parent-child bonds in emerging adulthood allow young people to gradually acquire autonomy and shape their identity during this stage while maintaining healthy interactions with their parents.
OBJECTIVE: To explore the perception of health professionals who worked in primary health care between 2020 and 2022, in the Manguinhos neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, regarding the risk and protective factors for their mental health during the management of the Covid-19 pandemic. METHODS: This is a qualitative study integrated into a broader investigation on testing strategies, quarantine, digital health, and telemonitoring in areas of high socioeconomic vulnerability in Brazil. Three focus groups were conducted with community health agents and ten semistructured interviews with higher education professionals. The data were collected between November 2022 and March 2023. The analysis was conducted based on the psychodynamics of work, and the procedures followed the content analysis technique. RESULTS: The study identified several factors that contributed to high levels of stress and anxiety among health professionals who worked in family health units during the Covid-19 pandemic. The main reported factor was the constant fear of death. Additionally, work overload, lack of adequate personal protective equipment, feelings of decision-making incapacity, and absence of mental health support exacerbated the impact on the professionals' health. Among community health agents, the perception of exclusion concerning the health professionals category was particularly noted. CONCLUSION: The Covid-19 pandemic revealed the urgent need to prioritize the mental health of health professionals from the onset of any health crisis. Preparing for future emergencies requires proactive actions, such as equitable distribution of workload, adequate provision of personal protective equipment, and free and accessible access to specialized mental health treatment for health professionals.
