Just mentioning conflict is enough to make some people cringe. However, when thinking of conflict resolution, it is important to remember a few key concepts. First, not all conflict is bad. Second, most conflict does not go away on its own, so it is better to address it sooner than later. I have always heard that veterinarians avoid conflict. While not every veterinarian is the same, I will say that I have found that the majority of veterinarians I have known certainly do prefer to avoid conflict. On the flip side, a small percentage choose to confront conflict head-on and aggressively, which only serves to push the conflict underground. What we know is that employees want someone to step up and resolve the conflict so everyone can move on. The realty is you don’t have to always get it right, but you do have to try. Ignoring the conflict and hoping it will resolve itself only makes valuable team members disengage and eventually leave. In this session we will introduce you to some styles of conflict resolution, but more importantly, to some conflict resolution skills that are universally applicable to all types of conflict at work and at home.
A student’s result is the criteria for the measurement of the student’s capability in terms of academic work in the school. It is also used to measure a student’s capability in each subject offered by the student. Without an adequate result processing system, the aim for which results are produced may not be achieved, because any slight or minor of mistake made during the process might lead to a very big problem. This research is tailored towards the understanding and implementation of a computer based GPA and CGPA computation using spreadsheet application program like Microsoft Excel to handle all related calculations thereby enhancing the preparation and presentation of student grading system for effective student result preparation and to serve as quick guide to lecturers and examination officers. However, all concerned personnel that have the task of result computation, are encouraged to study with keen interest in that they can hand GPA/CGPA computations so as to avert wrong implementation of student scores calculations/computations in the future. Student Union leadership is formed to promote and defend the welfare needs of the Students’ Community in Nigerian Tertiary Education System. Union leaders engage Government through dialogue on certain policies and the authorities of institutions to provide certain minimum services that will promote a sustained environment for academic interactions. This includes teaching, learning, social and research activities. Student Union Government (SUG) serves as the voice of the Students in all Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria. The Authorities through the Students’ Union Government is able to instill discipline and know the feelings and request of the Students. This view is corroborated by Longing (2003) and Ekekwem (2006). Most often, the refusal of Government and Management of institutions to address the legitimate needs of Students’ Union leaders leads to conflicts which manifest in demonstrations and unrest with severe consequences. This article examines an ideal student’s unionism, its responsibilities, causes of protest and challenges in Union leadership and provides suggested solutions to mitigate unrest by administrators of tertiary institutions and government.
Hoarding disorder is characterized by difficulty parting with possessions due to strong urges to save the items, leading to the excessive accumulation of items. High clutter levels result in varied personal, social, and legal consequences. Specialized treatments, including individual, virtual, and group cognitive and behavioral therapies, community-based interventions, and peer support approaches have shown preliminary effectiveness. Animal, attachment, and neurobiological models are expanding our understanding of the etiological bases of the disorder. Specialized populations such as children, older adults, and involuntary patients are highlighted as requiring special consideration for intervention and risk mitigation. Directions for future research are identified.
The program evaluated the effectiveness and acceptability of the Stepping On protocol (Clemson L, Swann M, Mahoney J. (2011). Stepping On: Building confidence and reducing falls in older adults (3rd ed.). Cedar Falls, IA: Freiberg Press Inc.) in reducing fall risk in older adults when delivered in a skilled nursing facility (SNF). Method: Stepping On was delivered by an occupational therapist to participants (n = 11) over 7 weeks followed by a 3-month session (Clemson et al., 2011). Results: Through comparison of pre and post data (n = 7) and 3-month outcomes (n = 4), trends revealed an overall increase in the use of protective behaviors and self-perceived physical health. Trends showed sustained outcomes at all measures, with exception of a decline in fall efficacy. The program was well received by participants and staff at the SNF with high satisfaction rates. Conclusion: Stepping On has the potential to be an effective fall prevention program for older adults with trends towards fall prevention while providing needed support to current and past SNF residents, and community members.
