The Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca (Spanish: Universidad Autónoma Benito Juárez de Oaxaca, UABJO) is a public university located in the city of Oaxaca de Juárez in state of Oaxaca, Mexico. The University was founded on January 8, 1827 as the Oaxacan Institute for Arts and Sciences. Initially courses were offered in Medicine, Surgery, Civil and Natural Law, Public Law, Canon Law and Ecclesiastical History, Political Economy, Statistics, Geography and Physics, Mathematics, Logic, Ethics, English, and French.
A study was conducted to recognize the governance of higher education in the development of research capacities in Oaxaca. The analysis focused on the political-organizational factors of higher education institutions and the relative power of the networks established with actors such as government, business and civil society. A methodology based on documentary research, statistical construction and social network analysis was used. It was found that 84% of the institutions in the state of Oaxaca present limitations in the organizational-political sphere to promote research activities. In contrast, the institutions with the greatest interaction links with external actors are UABJO, UTM, UMAR and ITO-TECNM, which enjoy research autonomy, have “academic oligarchies” in the process of consolidation, and develop strategies for academic collaboration and development of projects with social impact.
Introduction: Dental anomalies are congenital malformations of the tissues of the tooth that can range from alterations in number, eruption, location, size and shape to structural abnormalities. Among the alterations in number we find the supernumerary tooth, defined as a tooth formed in excessive number. Material and Methods: Two paediatric patients presented for consultation between June and August 2022 at the dentistry clinic of the Universidad de la Sierra Sur (UNSIS). On clinical and radiographic examination, the presence of a supernumerary tooth located in the palate between the upper central incisors (dental organ 11 and 21) was observed. Results: The mesiodens type supernumerary teeth were extracted with a surgical technique using a surgical motor and with a favourable operative and postoperative outcome for the patient. Conclusions: Among the supernumerary teeth, the most common is the mesiodens. Early detection, diagnosis and management is important in order to avoid abnormal development of the patient's dental occlusion and aesthetics.
BACKGROUND:Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is essential for producing flavin coenzymes (FMN and FAD) involved in redox reactions vital for immune cell functions. However, its direct effects on the immune system, particularly in human neutrophils, have been scarcely studied. METHODS:This study examined how physiologically relevant riboflavin concentrations (2.5, 25, and 50 nmol/L) affect complement activation, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) viability and activation, and neutrophil functions such as phagocytosis, degranulation, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. It used pre-treatment (to simulate prior exposure) and co-treatment (to mimic ongoing supplementation). RESULTS:Riboflavin affected complement-mediated hemolysis variably depending on treatment. In PBMCs, it improved viability and regulated CD40 expression; in neutrophils, it reduced bacterial phagocytosis dose-dependently during co-treatment, with pre-treatment at 25 nmol/L inhibiting phagocytosis. Riboflavin also decreased extracellular enzyme activity, indicating suppressed degranulation. Intracellular ROS production was dose-dependently reduced during co-treatment; pre-treatment showed a biphasic response, decreasing at 2.5 and 25 nmol/L but increasing at 50 nmol/L. CONCLUSION:Riboflavin influences neutrophil functions and immune responses, highlighting the need for further research into its therapeutic potential in conditions characterized by neutrophil hyperactivation.
