Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) refers to uniform nomenclature of seven central armed police organisations of India under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Their role is to defend the national interest mainly against the internal threats. They are the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), National Security Guard (NSG) and Special Protection Group (SPG).
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, accounting for 18.7% of total cancer deaths globally. It has a poor prognosis as over half of the diagnosed patients succumb within 1 year, and a 5-year survival is <20%. Among the two major types of lung cancers, Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinoma (NSCLC) and SCLC, NSCLC adenocarcinoma mucinous type is more common and known to grow slowly. The treatment options vary depending on the stage of the disease and include surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. This is a unique case report of a 56-year-old completely asymptomatic male diagnosed with fast-growing Stage IV adenocarcinoma mucinous type by the first symptom of a brain stroke. Radiological imaging by magnetic resonance imaging, Computed Tomography (CT)-guided biopsy, and Positron Emission Tomography (PET)-CT found three metastatic brain lesions with primary lesion in the lung. The treatment was initiated with anti-epileptics, targeted molecular cancer therapy followed by surgical excision of the metastatic brain lesions. During the postoperative period, adjuvant therapies including Ayurveda (herbo-mineral formulation), Yoga (sequence of Padmasadhana positions and Sudarshan kriya pranayama yoga ), Naturopathy, alongside chemotherapy, were given to the patient. Remarkably, the patient’s lung lesion regressed almost fully within about 1½ year of integrated treatment approach. No recurrence was observed with the follow-up of over 3 years of disease-free healthy life. This case suggests the potential safety and benefits of a holistic approach, using combination of Traditional and Complementary therapies of Ayurveda-Yoga with conventional treatment for advanced stage cancer.
This study examined how varying angular perturbations in a visuomotor adaptation task (VMAT) influence implicit and explicit motor learning. The goal was to assess whether implicit adaptation can compensate for limitations in explicit learning, particularly in the context of neurological rehabilitation. The study was designed to map the implicit and explicit learning processes in response to a specific perturbation angle in a VMAT using mean directional errors and adaptation as outcome variables. Participants performed reaching tasks under visuomotor rotations of different angles (30°, 45° and 60°), presented in block sequences. Performance was measured using mean directional errors and adaptation levels, reaction time (RT) and movement time (MT). The design allowed for the distinction between implicit and explicit learning based on changes in performance across blocks. As expected deterioration in performance was observed (as indicated by mean directional errors) on exposure to altered perturbation during each block. Participants struggled to adapt for smaller angle (the RT and MT failed to improve across block), as they used sensory feedback rather than relying on implicit strategy. Partial adaptation was observed until block 2 for sequences with smaller angles presented together. Small angles (30° and 45°) showed no improvement, indicating that magnitude of movement is critical for precise motor control. This approach is especially important for tasks that require explicit knowledge of subsequent actions. The study highlights the importance of visual representations of hand position in motor learning, and its findings could be applied to specialized rehabilitation training.
MiR-145 is reported to be significantly down-regulated in ovarian cancer. This study was aimed at elucidating the roles of miR-145 in regulating the biological behavior of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) cells. In this report, we find out that up-regulation of miR-145 in OVCAR-3 and SKOV-3 cells inhibit cell proliferation and promote cell apoptosis. We show that miR-145 directly target the c-Myc 3'-UTR. Moreover, ectopic expression of c-Myc reduces the inhibition of cell proliferation caused by miR-145 transfection. Cell cycle assay showed that up-regulation of miR-145 reduces S phase population, and restoration of c-Myc can rescue this reduction. These findings indicate that miR-145 inhibits cell proliferation and promotes cell apoptosis by targeting c-Myc 3'-UTR. Therefore, the result indicated that miR- 145 could be used as a potential therapeutic target in ovarian cancer.
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to examine whether the prevalence of Parkinson's disease (PD) continues to rise after 80 years of age. METHODS This is a two-stage, multi-center, cross-sectional study using a stratified cluster sampling approach was employed. Subjects included veterans at ≥ 60 years of age living in veterans' communities for at least one month in 18 major cities across China. In the first step, possible PD was screened using a PD screening scale. Demographic and relevant information were collected. In the second step, PD diagnosis was established using the United Kingdom Parkinson's Disease Society Brain Bank (UKPDSBB) diagnostic criteria. RESULTS The study was conducted during the period from December 2009 to December 2012. The study included 277 veterans' communities. Among the approached 11,593 subjects, 9676 subjects, (9096 men, 580 women) responded. The response rate was 83.46%.The age was ≥ 80 years in 6722 (69.47%) subjects. A diagnosis of PD was established in 228 subjects (2.36%) in the entire sample. The rate of PD was 2.65% in those with an age of ≥ 80 years. The rate of PD increased with increasing age (0%, 1.84%, 2.60% and 3.68% in the subjects at < 70, 70-79, 80-89 and ≥ 90 years of age, respectively; χ2 = 10.891, p = 0.001 in chi-square test). The rate of PD was higher in men (2.44%) than in women (1.46%) on the surface. However, no significant difference was detected (p = 0.241). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of PD continues to increase beyond the age of 80 years. The prevalence of PD in Chinese veterans is not lower than that in other countries and regions.
