Limosilactobacillus fermentum JAC 231, a strain isolated from the vaginal microbiota of an asymptomatic woman, was investigated for its genomic features, safety, probiotic potential, and antimicrobial properties in this study. Whole-genome sequencing revealed a 2.06 Mbp genome with 51.4
We describe a close relative of Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, the sail-backed, fish-eating giant from nearshore deposits of northern Africa. Spinosaurus mirabilis sp. nov., discovered in the central Sahara alongside long-necked dinosaurs in a riparian habitat, is distinguished by a scimitar-shaped bony crest projecting far above its skull roof. We discern three discrete phases in spinosaurid evolution. During the first phase with roots in the Jurassic, an elongate fish-snaring skull emerged that soon was modified along divergent paths. During a second Early Cretaceous phase, spinosaurids became the dominant predators in circum-Tethyan habitats. The final phase began just before the Late Cretaceous during the opening of the Atlantic Ocean, when spinosaurines attained maximum body size as shallow water ambush specialists limited geographically to northern Africa and South America.
Silviculture represents a globally significant economic activity, driving the creation of numerous jobs throughout its production chain. Effective forest resource management is fundamental to optimizing sustainable production, and forest inventories are indispensable tools in this context. Faced with the challenge of obtaining accurate and cost-effective measurements for forest inventories, this research proposes the use of 3D models of scenes captured by a smartphone equipped with LiDAR to estimate the diameter of tree trunks at specific height: 1.30 m, breast height (DBH). From each 3D model, depth maps were generated to perform diameter measurements at heights of interest. The study involved the collection of 55 scenes of 55 trees of the Eucalyptus grandis species, with an average of 70 frames per scene. For validation, diameter measurements at the investigated heights were manually annotated for each tree. Preliminary results show a strong correlation between estimated DBH and measured DBH. The method achieved an MAE of $0.44 ~ \text{cm}$ and an RMSE of $1.11 ~ \text{cm}$, demonstrating that the overall accuracy is good but that there are samples in the studied dataset that represent outliers. In addition, two trunk segmentation methods were proposed, and the results obtained by the model using the point cloud-based segmentation method (RANSAC, DBSCAN, and KD-Tree) were even better, with an MAE of 0.40 cm and an RMSE of 1.07 cm.
