The National University (NU), colloquially National U, is a private non–sectarian coeducational university located in Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines. The founder of the university, Mariano F. Jhocson Sr., established the institution on August 1, 1900, as Colegio Filipino in Quiapo, Manila. It is considered as the first private nonsectarian and coeducational institution in the Philippines and also, the first university to use English as its medium of instruction, replacing Spanish. With its main campus in Sampaloc, Manila, the university has been expanding by setting secondary campuses. Other campuses of NU includes: NU Laguna (Sports Academy), NU Fairview, NU Mall of Asia (College of Dentistry), NU Baliwag, NU Dasmariñas, and NU Lipa.Approved by the Department Public Instruction on June 17, 1921, the university received its university status, changing the name from National Academy to National University. Senator Camilo Osías, two-time Senate President of the Philippines, served as the first University President (1921-1936). The current university president is Renato C. Ermita, Jr. (2008–present) and its current majority owner is the SM Group.NU is one of the pioneer members of National Collegiate Athletic Association- Philippines (NCAA) and the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), and also a pioneer member of the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU). Its international affiliations and memberships include the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAHIL) and the International Association of Universities (IAU). Jhocson Sr.
Online dating platforms typically emphasize looks, often neglecting interpersonal traits. Humor, associated with emotional health, social bonding, and mate selection, may counterbalance this bias; however, evidence on whether compatible humor styles foster digital matches is limited, particularly among Filipino Generation Z users. The study investigated whether similar versus contrasting humor styles predict match success and identified the most effective humor-style pairings. In a quasi-experiment, 160 heterosexual Filipino undergraduates (80 men, 80 women; 18–25 years) completed the Humor Styles Questionnaire and were paired into ten dyads of similar or contrasting styles. Each pair chatted for ten minutes on Discord, then rated dating intention on a five-item scale. Normality and homogeneity violations justified non-parametric analysis; ethical clearance and informed consent safeguarded participant privacy. Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis H, and Dunn post-hoc tests rigorously compared group differences. Pairs sharing adaptive styles (Affiliative–Affiliative; Self-Enhancing–Self-Enhancing) posted higher dating-intention scores than contrasting or aggressive matches (U = 2505, p = .048, r = .16). Differences across all ten dyads were significant (χ²(9) = 26.04, p = .002, η² = .34); Aggressive–Aggressive pairs scored lowest. Findings show that humor-style compatibility, especially shared adaptive humor, modestly but consistently enhances early romantic interest online, affirming Similarity–Attraction and Sexual Selection theories. Dating apps should embed humor assessments within matching algorithms, and users might highlight adaptive humor in profiles. Counselors and relationship educators could incorporate humor-style awareness into training modules, while engineers can experiment with real-time comedic matching features. Researchers should pursue longitudinal and multicultural studies to see if initial humor compatibility forecasts durable relationship quality over time
The article explores the theoretical basis of the impact of emotional burnout on the development of psychosomatic diseases of psychologists working in wartime conditions. Its objective is to examine the psychosomatic, psychological and neuropsychological aspects of emotional burnout among consulting psychologists. A review of literature from the past five years was conducted using multiple databases. The findings confirm that psychologists are highly susceptible to burnout due to prolonged interaction with numerous clients, requiring them to express emotions that may not align with their true feelings. In wartime, this challenge intensifies as psychologists face pathological stress from increased workloads, heightened emotional demands, and "psychological volunteering." Many neglect their own needs and personal lives to prioritise professional responsibilities. The study investigates the causes of burnout and its role in developing psychosomatic disorders. It identifies the psychophysical and socio-psychological symptoms of burnout and analyses the process using a five-stage model. Recommendations for burnout prevention are provided, emphasising physical and mental health maintenance, as well as the treatment of psychosomatic conditions. The article concludes that psychologists in military settings are at elevated risk of emotional burnout, which undermines emotional stability, self-esteem, and interest in work, reducing professional effectiveness. Burnout can also lead to physical health issues, such as sleep disturbances, immune deficiencies, cardiovascular problems, and other psychosomatic conditions, highlighting the urgent need for preventive measures.
Although conventional chemotherapeutic drugs exhibit broad-spectrum antitumor efficacy, their toxic effects on normal cells cannot be ignored, and there is an urgent need to develop novel drugs to improve therapeutic efficacy and reduce side effects. In this study, we prepared PLGA/TA microspheres with TA as the target drug and PLGA as the carrier, and evaluated their physicochemical properties, including particle size, morphology, and release behavior, with the aim of exploring the potential of PLGA/TA microspheres for tumor therapy. The results of RNA sequencing showed that PLGA/TA microspheres may act on tumor cells mainly through the pathway of PI3K-Akt, and do not interfere with the synthesis of DNA directly. Overall, PLGA/TA microspheres, as a novel drug delivery system, showed good anti-tumor potential and provided new ideas and directions for cancer therapy.
This study investigates the challenges in designing, data collection, and implementation of a web-based Tutoring System (TS) for teaching linear equations within a developing country context. Originally designed as an Android app, the system was redeveloped as a web application to facilitate cross-platform access and data collection. This redesign enabled enhanced tracking through interaction logs and included features like problem skipping, hints, difficulty-based problem sequencing, and game modes with adaptable progression (e.g., easy-to-hard, hard-to-easy). The main objective was to document the design and data collection challenges encountered in data collection for the development of a model capable of detecting learned helplessness in students' behaviors while using a web application for solving linear equation. Challenges included outdated devices, unreliable internet, and logistical constraints such as limited session durations and delays in obtaining approvals. Environmental disruptions like class cancellations and curriculum gaps further complicated the process, with only 118 out of 410 students eligible and actively participating. These obstacles highlight the complexities of collecting interaction data for detecting learned helplessness in real-world, resource-constrained educational settings.
This research explores the user-centered design of a daily medication tracker tailored specifically for Baby Boomers using foldable iOS devices. The study addresses the unique challenges and opportunities presented by foldable devices, such as their larger screens, multitasking capabilities, and adaptable form factors. By leveraging these features, the goal is to enhance user interaction, making health management more intuitive and accessible for older adults. The methodology involved a literature review of existing health tracking and user interface design studies, as well as prototyping frameworks that emphasize ease of use, accessibility, and personalized interactions. Key design considerations include dual-screen layouts, adaptable interactions, and visual elements that support older adults' cognitive and motor capabilities. The findings of this research contribute to advancing health tracker design on foldable platforms and highlight the potential for technology to improve medication adherence and overall health management among Baby Boomers.
