Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) is a private Christian university in West Palm Beach, Florida. The university's nine colleges focus on the liberal arts with a select collection of professional studies. In 2019, its undergraduate enrollment was approximately 2,800.Founded in 1968, the university grew out of a local Baptist church. It operated out of assorted buildings until the first purpose-built campus building was completed in 1982. A subsidiary campus operates in Orlando. Eighteen sports teams represent the university in NCAA Division II competitions.
In the first half of the twentieth century, modern architects and their antecedents enjoyed an elevated role in public discourse. The assertive yet visionary voices of figures like Marion Mahony Griffin, Le Corbusier, Louis Sullivan, and Frank Lloyd Wright revealed their ideas about the places they would imagine and others would inhabit. These architects were forceful persuaders who argued their designs would solve a range of social problems, and their rhetoric reveals an idealism that reaches beyond esthetic or structural concerns. While the look of mid-century modern is currently enjoying a popular revival, the discourse that accompanied the designs also had a permanent impact. This study examines the rhetorical tropes produced by architects to create the incongruous sense of space that legitimizes modernism.
Metal oxide catalysts with surface oxygen vacancies show promise for photo-thermal catalytic VOC destruction, yet the role of vacancy quantity in VOC degradation remains underexplored. Here, three-dimensionally ordered macroporous (3DOM) LaMn1.2O3 annealed at 350 degrees C (LMO-350 degrees C) exhibited outstanding toluene oxidation, achieving 100 % conversion and 92 % mineralization at WHSV of 35, 000 mL g-1 h-1 under focused solar irradiation with excellent stability. Moderate surface oxygen vacancies were found to enhanced charge carrier migration, reduced activation barriers, and promoted toluene adsorption and activation. In contrast, excessive vacancies impaired low-temperature reducibility and oxygen mobility, reducing effectiveness. The study underscores that balancing surface oxygen vacancies in LMO proved critical for maintaining good reducibility, high oxygen mobility, and low activation energy, ensuring effective mineralization. Notably, LMO-350 degrees C also degraded acetone, ethyl acetate, benzene, o-xylene, and their mixtures under ambient solar irradiation. A life-cycle assessment underscored the significance of solar utilization, highlighting its potential to improve economic and ecological sustainability in photo-thermal catalytic technologies for environmental remediation.
OBJECTIVE:Research suggests body image disturbance (BID) is a core feature of anorexia nervosa (AN), however, more research is required on how BID may differ across illness and recovery stages. This study aimed to investigate differences in BID facets (body image dissatisfaction and body image perception) among women with AN who were currently ill and at varying recovery stages, and women with no history of eating disorders (non-ED controls). METHOD:One hundred ninety-nine women (18-65 years old) meeting criteria for either current AN (AN-C; n = 73), weight-restoration (AN-WR; n = 86), partial recovery (AN-PR; n = 19), or full recovery (AN-FR; n = 21), and a group of non-ED controls (n = 128), completed online self-report measures of BID and AN symptom severity. RESULTS:The AN-C and AN-WR showed significantly worse body image dissatisfaction and body image perception than the AN-FR and non-ED control groups. DISCUSSION:These findings suggest that BID differs across AN recovery stages and suggests that holistic recovery from AN includes the remediation of BID. The findings highlight the need for treatment to provide continuous support especially after the weight-restoration period when BID may be at its peak.
Purpose This paper aims to investigate how the Direct Registration System (DRS) share ownership movement among household investors coincided with GameStop Corp.'s financial stability and whether comparable patterns appear in other firms. It considers the possibility that direct ownership - where investors bypass traditional brokerage systems - may relate to GameStop's efforts to reduce debt, raise capital and maintain a more stable shareholder base.Design/methodology/approach This study reviews GameStop's Securities and Exchange Commission's filings, stockholder records and financial statements, comparing data from before and after the rise of DRS. It also explores other companies, such as AMC Entertainment and Bed Bath & Beyond, that issued equity following the 2021 short squeeze, to determine if differences in outcomes align with DRS adoption trends. Given data constraints, proxy indicators and theoretical perspectives are used to examine potential connections to DRS.Findings GameStop raised over $5.1bn through equity issuances, reduced its debt and bolstered its balance sheet. All three developments coincided with a rise in direct registration. This trajectory contrasts with other firms that issued shares yet faced financial difficulties. Notably, the increase in DRS share ownership coincided with a reduced availability of shares for short selling, alongside observations of lower price volatility.Originality/value This research offers a novel case study on the patterns associated with DRS share ownership, an underexplored area in finance literature. Through comparisons with other firms, it underscores the need for further investigation and enhanced reporting standards to evaluate the broader significance of direct registration for corporate financial stability.
BACKGROUND:Pharmacy education and workforce development are undergoing significant disruption. While national forecasts outline key directions, they lack granularity and stakeholder validation. This study aimed to develop a stakeholder-informed, data-driven forecast of pharmacy strategic priorities through 2035. Objectives were: (1) identify key themes shaping pharmacy's future, (2) align these themes with national priorities, and (3) forecast their trajectory and readiness to inform strategic planning. METHODS:A mixed-methods design integrated qualitative analysis of 27 stakeholder focus groups and eight interviews with trend modeling and policy triangulation. Participants (n = 148) represented students, faculty, preceptors, administrators, professional organizations, payors, interprofessional educators, and transformation leaders. Transcripts were coded using grounded theory and analyzed for themes. Identified themes were aligned with the 2024 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and 2024 American Society of Health-System Pharmacy Forecast reports. Historical emphasis scores (2015-2024) were modeled using linear regression to project thematic growth through 2035. Each theme was rated for system readiness based on stakeholder insight and national preparedness indicators. RESULTS:Ten core themes emerged: Workforce Shortages/Accessibility, Digital Health/Technology, Competency-Based Education (CBE), Public Health/Prevention, Medication Safety/Optimization, Interprofessional Collaboration, Patient-Centered Care, Leadership/Advocacy, Professional Identity/Perception, and Business/Financial Acumen. Convergent themes like Workforce Shortages, Public Health, and Medication Safety were validated by national forecasts and reflected high stakeholder urgency. Digital Health and CBE showed the steepest forecasted growth slopes but were marked by low readiness. A strategic prioritization matrix was developed to guide policy and curricular responses based on urgency, growth, and readiness. CONCLUSIONS:This study offers a novel, future-facing framework to guide the transformation of pharmacy education and workforce strategy. High-priority, low-readiness themes require urgent investment. Strategic scaffolds such as leadership, identity, and business acumen, though underemphasized, are critical to sustaining innovation. Pharmacy must reimagine itself as a lifelong, adaptable profession, equipped not only to respond to change but to lead it.
