PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate the implementation of student learning outcome (SLO) measurement within the outcome-based education (OBE) framework at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Parahyangan Catholic University as the case study. This research aims to evaluate the utility of SLO attainment data, as well as comparing the SLO attainment level via direct and indirect measurement methods.Design/methodology/approachIn this study, a mixed-method approach was used, by analysing both direct and indirect measurement of SLO attainment. Direct measurement was accomplished by accumulating scores of quizzes, tests, projects and rubric-based observations across the curriculum. Indirect measurement was derived from graduating student exit surveys with total sample of 49 students. This study has been approved by the Parahyangan Catholic University Ethics Committee.FindingsThe results in this study demonstrated that SLO attainment data is a valuable tool for annual course evaluation, as data-driven interventions and improvements in subsequent years. The correction can take the form in adjusting the material, delivery or assessment method or frequency. Comparison of direct and indirect measurement revealed a reasonable agreement (four out of seven SLOs), with slight overestimation of two cognitive SLOs in the self-evaluation, and a larger discrepancy in affective SLO measurement.Originality/valueThis study validated the results of direct and indirect measurement of SLOs and provided a reliable method to measure students' SLO attainment, which is important in the OBE framework. The findings of this study contribute to the ongoing discussion on effective assessment practices and SLO measurement, which is an important aspect for quality assurance and continuous improvement.
The number of MSMEs in Indonesia is very large, but the portion of credit financing to MSMEs is still very small when compared to the percentage of the number of MSMEs. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of MSME customer motivation on credit decisions at PT Bank Syariah Indonesia through brand awareness as a moderating variable. This research is a quantitative descriptive study conducted on 250 MSME customers of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia, who have credit with current status and are willing to be respondents. Sampling method with accidental sampling. This study uses primary data collected by questionnaires distributed to respondents. Respondents' perceptions were measured using a Likert scale. Research with SEM model, data processing with PLS 3.0 smart software. The results showed that motivation and brand awareness has a significant effect on MSME customer credit decisions at PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tebing Tinggi branch. Brand awareness can be a moderating variable in the influence of motivation on credit decisions of MSME customers of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tebing Tinggi Branch. The implication of this research is targeting the policy of increasing Islamic bank credit financing that is oriented towards brand awareness.
Purpose Furthermore, the purpose of this study is to compare the student engagement and the learning outcomes in offline and online PBL in the aforementioned course. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruption in various sectors, including education. Since it was first announced in mid-March 2020 in Indonesia, teaching and learning activities have been carried out online. In this study, a comparison of the offline (Spring 2019, prior to the pandemic) and online (Spring 2021, during the pandemic) problem-based learning (PBL) method in the sustainable chemical industry course is investigated. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative analysis was conducted by measuring the students’ engagement, course-learning outcomes (CLOs) and student learning outcomes (SLOs). Difference tests of engagement score, CLOs and SLOs were investigated by using the t -test or Mann–Whitney U -test. Furthermore, the perceived students’ stressors were measured. Findings It is found that the students’ engagement in offline and online PBL gives similar scores with no significant difference. This is possible because of the PBL structure that demands students to be actively engaged in gaining knowledge, collaboratively working in teams and interacting with other students and lecturers. Although similarly engaged, the CLOs and SLOs of online PBL are significantly lower than offline PBL, except for SLO related to oral and written communication skills and affective aspect. The decrease in CLOs and SLOs could be influenced by students’ academic, psychological and health-related stressors during the COVID-19 pandemic time. Originality/value This study provides a recommendation to apply online PBL during the COVID-19 pandemic time and beyond, although some efforts to improve CLOs and SLOs are needed.
This study aims to use data mining techniques to segment customers from a grocery store based on their age, spending, city, gender, and product purchases. We use K-Means clustering algorithms to identify trends and segment clients from the grocery store. The data set comes from a grocery store in a Greater Bandung area. Using sales data for three months from April 2022 to October 2022. Consumer data are consumers who are members of the loyalty program with more than 6000 consumers. Seven groups were formed, which were determined based on the elbow method. Additionally, the study was able to provide information on the characteristics of the various consumer categories and how they could be used to inform sales and marketing strategies using these tactics. The study has contributed to the field of machine learning by demonstrating the successful use of clustering methods to particular datasets, providing significant insights into how these aspects influence consumer decision making.
