The Commercialization of Yoga: Trends in the Polish Publishing Market The authors examine, within a bibliological and sociological framework, how yoga as a physical and spiritual practice has been transformed into a market commodity. Particular attention is paid to the role of the publishing market in the dissemination and commercialization of yoga, with a focus on books published in Poland in recent years. Using bibliological methods and bibliometric tools, the study seeks to answer the following questions: What appears on the covers of books popularizing yoga? Which types of publications dominate the Polish market? From a sociological perspective, the article also explores broader trends associated with the adaptation of yoga to contemporary Western models of consumption. Keywords: commercialization of yoga in Poland, sociology of yoga, publishing market, bibliology, book cover, mass culture, popularization of yoga
Objectives: The academic teachers are increasingly diagnosed with anxiety disorders, which results from a high level of work-related stress. These disorders can be both an independent risk factor of many somatic conditions and the cause of complications of various organic disorders leading to poor prognosis. The purpose of this study is to compare the heart rate variability (HRV) recorded both during the day and at night in the academic teachers with anxiety disorders and healthy individuals. Material and Methods: The study was conducted on 38 academic teachers-consecutive outpatients with anxiety disorders who participated in the intensive group psychotherapy. The diagnosis was made according to Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders, fourth edition, text revision (DSM-IV-TR) criteria using the Present State Examination (PSE-10) questionnaire. Seventeen examined patients were diagnosed with panic disorder (PD) and 21 with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The control group consisted of 40 healthy academic teachers. The resulting 3 groups were compared in terms of circadian HRV using the Oxford Medilog Suprima Holter System. Results: The HRV analysis showed the nocturnal falls in the time and frequency parameters related to the parasympathetic activity, e.g., high frequency. The most unfavorable alterations were observed in the PD group, which comprised the disappearance of day vs. night amplitude of the majority of HRV parameters. Hence, the PD group was particularly susceptible to the arrhythmic events. It was noticeable that nocturnal vagotonia in the PD group was significantly lower as compared with the GAD and control group. Conclusions: The innovative aspect of the present study was to find a distinct profile of HRV with regard to the types of anxiety disorders because of the existing considerable differences between the nature of PD and GAD. Background: Previous methods used to estimate the pelvis were based on visual and palpation assessment, which are characterized by low reliability. Research using a Duometer, which is an appropriate diagnostic tool to carry out pelvic measurements, allows a more accurate assessment of the pelvic girdle. The aim of the study: The aim of the work was to assess the pelvic position at students using the Duometer in the sagittal plane. Material and methods: The research covered 30 students, including 15 women and 15 men between the ages of 20 and 24. The test method included assessing the pelvic position in the sagittal plane with the help of the Duometer, which was subject to assessment of the pelvis in the free position, maximum anteversion, maximum retroversion and measurement of mass and height of the body. The position of the pelvis in the sagittal plane was assessed on the basis of the angular size according to the Bibrowicz classification. Results: Among the subcjets women had correct pelvic position in all the cases studied, they were in standards proposed by Bibrowicz, while men only the maximum retroversion result was in the standards, and the other two were below the proposed standards. Conclusion: Pelvic alignment in the neutral position obtains greater angular values in the female group. Higher angular values, both in maximum anterior tilt and posterior tilt, were also characterised by women. Pelvic alignment in individual positions in the study group, assessed on the basis of angular values, tended to be within the lower normative ranges determined by Bibrowicz. The exceptions were pelvic positioning in neutral and maximum anterior tilt in the male group.
- Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) continues to play a critical role in the management of severe and treatment-resistant psychiatric disorders. Despite more than eighty years of clinical use, recent progress in understanding the neurobiological mechanisms, therapeutic outcomes, safety considerations, and broadening indications for ECT necessitates a comprehensive review of the latest original research. This review aims to critically evaluate and synthesize original studies published between 2017 and 2024, focusing on ECT's mechanisms of action, clinical effectiveness, cognitive outcomes, safety profile, maintenance strategies, and emerging clinical applications. A systematic search of the PubMed database was conducted to identify original clinical and translational research on ECT. Studies eligible for inclusion were peer-reviewed, published in English, and demonstrated direct clinical relevance. Reviews, meta-analyses, and animal-only studies lacking translational value were excluded. Recent research consistently affirms the strong efficacy of ECT in treating major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, catatonia, and other neuropsychiatric conditions. Neuroimaging and molecular investigations have highlighted mechanisms involving neuroplasticity, modulation of neurotrophins, and changes in functional connectivity. Maintenance and continuation ECT effectively reduce relapse risk. Expanding indications include adolescents, elderly patients with comorbidities, pregnant women, and those with neurological complications. ECT remains a clinically effective and generally safe treatment modality with growing therapeutic relevance. Further research is essential to optimize individualized protocols, reduce stigma, and expand access. OBJECTIVES:Pelvic organ prolapse is an extremely important therapeutic problem and affects up to 50% of nulliparous women. Its frequency increases with age parity, and it is more common after menopause. This ailment has a negative impact on many aspects of life, significantly reducing its quality. Nowadays, not only the cure of the problem, but also the improvement of the quality of life and life satisfaction of patients is of great importance for doctors, therefore the assessment of these aspects should also be constantly evaluated. The objective of this study was to determine the quality of life and satisfaction with life of patients before, 1 year and 3 years after performing the surgery of an isolated apical defect using BSC synthetic mesh. MATERIAL AND METHODS:Of 60 patients with an isolated apical defect, 45 had sufficient medical records for the analysis. Evaluation comprised the perceived quality of life (P-QOL) and the SWLS questionnaires conducted three times. RESULTS:The results obtained for the P-QOL questionnaire carried out after 3 years show that the quality of life of the patients improved. A statistically significant increase in the quality of life was achieved in almost all domains (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS:The results obtained after completing the satisfaction with life scale (SWLS) questionnaire indicate that 3 years after the surgery, patients' satisfaction with life showed an upward trend. Surgical treatment of an isolated apical defect using the bilateral sacrospinous colposuspension kit (AMI BSC) results in an improvement in the quality of life in most patients, even in a long-term evaluation.
