Vodafone Portugal – Comunicações Pessoais, S.A., a full subsidiary of the Vodafone Group, is the second mobile operator in Portugal, both chronologically and in market share (34% in 2006). Its competitors are NOS and Meo.A.
Objective: This research explores how self-perception influences brand preferences and purchasing behavior, aiming to provide insights for marketers to enhance brand loyalty. Theoretical Framework: Self-concept dimensions—actual self, ideal self, and social self—are analyzed to understand their impact on consumer behavior. Method: A mixed-method approach was utilized, including a survey of 300 participants and in-depth interviews with 30 participants. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and thematic analysis were used to assess relationships between variables and explore underlying psychological mechanisms. Results and Discussion: Findings suggest significant correlations between self-perception and brand preference, mediated by emotional attachment and perceived value. Specifically, the actual self-concept influences brand preference through emotional attachment, the ideal self-concept drives aspirational brand preferences, and the social self-concept affects brand loyalty through social identity. Research Implications: These insights offer theoretical contributions to consumer psychology and practical implications for marketers aiming to create effective branding strategies that resonate with consumers' self-concept, ultimately fostering stronger brand loyalty and customer satisfaction. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by highlighting the importance of brand alignment with consumers' self-perceptions, aspirations, and social identities.
Brazil has the world's most populous semi-arid region and climate change represents significant ecological and socioeconomic challenges for this area. To better understand the impact of these changes, it is crucial to analyze the dynamics of climate variables and evapotranspiration (ETo), a critical climate variable. This study aimed to model ETo rates considering climate change scenarios in the Brazilian Semi-arid region (BSR). The modeling was based on tests of five machine learning algorithms: Bayesian Regularized Neural Networks (BRNN), Cubist, Earth, Linear Regression (LM), and Random Forest (RF). A dataset with 20 covariates was used to represent the current scenario. In the future prediction, covariates from two shared socio-economic pathways were used (SSPs 126 and 585). The best statistical performance was achieved by Cubist (R² = 0.98 and RMSE = 0.08 mm day-¹ in the holdout-test). The current daily average ETo is 4.77 mm day-¹, while in future scenarios, it can increase by 3.56% in SSP 126 and 15.51% in SSP 585. ETo rates are expected to expand territorially; ranges from > 0.60 mm day-¹ should increase 8% in SSP 126 and 40% in SSP 585. The applied model suggests that ETo may increase in future scenarios in the BSR, which could affect biodiversity levels and intensify social conflicts. Keywords: Machine Learning; Spatial Prediction; Cubist; Semi-arid Zone; Climate changes.
Multipath transport can be used in heterogeneous wireless environments to provide seamless connectivity between a mobile device and edge nodes. Two challenges of different nature can be addressed by multipath transport: 1) seamless handovers; and 2) bandwidth aggregation across multiple access networks to obtain a more reliable end-to-end service. Multipath transport has been widely explored for wired networks and for web access. However, existing solutions target reliable throughput, while emerging use cases often favour delivery timeliness, eventually at the cost of some errors. This work discusses multi-access Real-time Transport Protocol (MA-RTP), a multipath protocol for sensor stream transport. The motivation behind developing MA-RTP stems from the need for a multipath transport protocol specifically designed to cater to the requirements of real-time, loss-tolerant data streams. It is associated to a context-based scheduler to decide which access network to use. Both the protocol and the scheduler are implemented and tested in a video offloading scenario with 5G and 802.11ac access technologies to show the potential of the proposal.
