Erozja wartości świadczeń prowadzi do wzrostu rocznej luki emerytalnej z 10 551 zł w 2023 r. do 90 921 zł w 2060 r.
Niniejszy artykuł omawia historyczny i obecny stan ruchu Law & Economics (L&E) w Polsce. Przedstawiono polskie doświadczenia i wkład w pierwszą falę L&E. Dokonano szczegółowego przeglądu drugiej fali L&E i zasugerowano dalszą stratyfikację: wczesna adopcja w latach 1980–1990, popularyzacja lat 2000 i dojrzałe L&E od 2010 roku.
W badaniu wykorzystano zasoby danych statystycznych elektronicznej publikacji naukowej „Our World in Data”, gdzie za okres badań przyjęto lata 2000–2023.
The study analyzes relations between non-governmental organizations and public administration in Poland and the Czech Republic during the COVID-19 pandemic, with particular attention to the economic and institutional conditions of cooperation. The analysis is based on a qualitative comparative study using in-depth individual interviews conducted with representatives of non-governmental organizations in both countries. The collected empirical material was subjected to thematic analysis, combining deductive coding with the identification of emergent themes. The results indicate three key mechanisms: the paradox of flexibility in interpersonal relations alongside systemic rigidity; the replacement of co-governance with ad hoc crisis response; and a deepening asymmetry of resources and levels of professionalization between large and small non-governmental organizations. The adaptive capacities of organizations compensated for weak institutional support but did not lead to a lasting change in the model of cooperation. The article concludes with recommendations aimed at strengthening co-governance mechanisms and ensuring stable funding for non-governmental organizations.
The aim of this article is to analyze the processes of macroeconomic stabilization in the Visegrad Group (V4) countries over the period 1995-2024. The study applies the Macroeconomic Stabilization Pentagon (PSM) model, which enables a synthetic evaluation offive key areas of economic balance: economic growth, inflation, unemployment, fiscal balance, and external balance. To deepen the analysis, selected indicators from the EU's Macroeconomic Imbalance Procedure (MIP) were also used as a complementary tool, serving as an early warning mechanism for emerging macroeconomic risks. The study demonstrates that the stabilization process in the V4 countries was heterogeneous-ranging from severe imbalances during the transition period, through a consolidation phase following EU accession, to recent pandemic and geopolitical shocks. The in-depth analysis based on MIP indicators for 2024 reveals that the main sources of potential risks lie in the areas of external balance and competitiveness. The article concludes that the complementary use of the PSM model and the MIP procedure enhances the accuracy of macroeconomic diagnosis and supports the design of more resilient economic policy.
Municipalities play a vital role in the energytransition through investmentsthatsupportthe developmentofa low-emission economy. The intensity of such activities varies spatially and is shaped, among other factors, by proximity to large urban centers. The main objective of this study is toassessthe relationships between the functional linkages of rural and urban-rural municipalities with larger urban centers and the level of investments in a low-carbon economy co-financed by European Union funds in the periods 2007-2013 and 2014-2020. The analysis applies a classification of municipalities based on their inclusion in Functional Urban Areas (FUA) and the Delimitation of Rural Areas (DOW). The hypothesis assumesthat municipalities located within FUAs exhibit higher investment levelsthan those outside. The results confirm higheractivity, especially in low-density municipalities near metropolitan areas. The hypothesis is partially supported: proximityto urban centers is associated with higher investment levels in spatial terms but does not always translate into higher per capita expenditure.
Most economists argue that economics should be more pluralistic and often criticize the monistic nature of neoclassical economics (NE). My paper runs against the grain. I propose ‘heliocentric economics’ to show that NE’s dominance has advantages over pluralistic heterodox approaches. Heliocentric economics contributes to two discussions on pluralism in economics. The first discussion (descriptive) concerns whether economics is pluralistic. Heliocentric economics depicts economics as a patchwork of approaches (pluralism) but with the dominance of NE (monism). I demonstrate how NE’s axiomatic assumptions (optimization, methodological individualism and equilibrium) have defined the mainstream paradigm in economics till now. The second discussion (normative) concerns how pluralism should function. Heliocentric economics combines the advantages of monism and pluralism. First, NE’s dominant paradigm serves as a benchmark that enables communication. Second, if critical dialogue exists thanks to pluralistic heterodox approaches, NE’s dominance can benefit economics.
This article explores how Brexit has reversed migration trends shaped by Poland's 2004 EU accession, focusing on young adults aged 19-34. Using data from the Polish Labour Force Survey (2015-2019) and the Migrant Selectivity Index (MSI), it traces shifts in the socio-demographic profiles of Polish migrants. Key findings include a masculinisation of migration flows, a decline in tertiary-educated migrants, and growing mobility among individuals with intermediate education from rural areas-patterns resembling pre-accession dynamics. These changes reflect labour market realignments, with Germany surpassing the UK as the top destination. The study argues that Brexit not only disrupted post-accession migration but reactivated older selectivity mechanisms, reshaping human capital flows within the EU. By quantifying selectivity, it offers new insights into how geopolitical shifts affect labour mobility, regional development, and transnational skill distribution.
We provide new evidence on the effects of adopting a common European currency on bank profitability in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). We construct a panel of 1033 bank-year observations across 11 countries between 2006 and 2020. Our results suggest that the effect of joining the euro area on bank profitability is not statistically significant over a longer period, but that the euro exerts downward pressure on banks’ profits in a stable economic climate. Additionally, we contribute to the existing literature on determinants of bank profitability in the CEE region and confirm that capitalisation and bank size have a positive influence, while liquidity and the loans-to-assets ratio have a negative influence on profitability.
The aim of this article is to analyse the recurrence of economic crises in the 21st century and to indicate the key mechanisms of their formation and course. In particular, the consequences of countercyclical policy are analysed, which - although it stabilises the economy in the short term - leads to the growth of public and private debt, increasing the risk of further crises. We adopt a perspective integrating economics, social sciences and political science, arguing that crisis phenomena are not exclusively the effect of macroeconomic factors, but also result from the emotional and institutional reactions of societies and their external conditions. All model approaches to the business cycle and model methods of counteracting economic crises fail. Economic policy must increasingly rely on microeconomic management, which gives economies antifragility and resilience. Macroeconomics must increasingly refer to contextual analysis and natural experiments. In this article, we use model analysis and empirical research covering the period 2000-2023 and 22 European countries belonging to the OECD.
This paper introduces a new empirical measure of fiscal fragility, specifically defined by fluctuations in the government's tax base, to analyze selective sovereign defaults on domestic and foreign debts. Utilizing data from multiple economies, the study tests theoretical predictions linking output and tax base shocks to selective default probabilities. The results confirm that output contractions predominantly drive foreign defaults, whereas fluctuations in the tax base primarily induce domestic defaults. The findings enhance the understanding of sovereign default risks, emphasizing the distinct roles of domestic and foreign debts.
Insufficient employment opportunities in West Africa continue to weaken and potentially hamper growth sustainability. Previous studies have underexplored the interrelationships between unemployment and economic growth. This study examines the relationship between unemployment and sustainable economic growth in West Africa. The core of the study lies in the neoclassical growth model while incorporating endogenous growth theory. The study combines descriptive analysis with the application of econometric estimations. The annual panel data covering the period of 1991 to 2023 were collected from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank (WB) World Development Indicators (WDI) databases. The estimation technique employed is panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (p-ARDL), covering all the sixteen countries of West Africa. The analysis revealed that unemployment has a significant positive impact on long-term economic growth in West Africa.
The article presents the impact of sustainable development regulations on changes in business, opportunities to build competitive advantages and actual implementation processes that limit ESG risks in financial institutions. The results of the analyses confirm the significant impact of the ESG taxonomy on the conditions of conducting business, risk calculation, reporting and disclosure. The multidimensionality of ESG risk, the long-term legislative, implementation process and the complexity of adaptation activities are the main challenges. Actions taken in the internal environment of the institution and externally, towards stakeholders, serve to strengthen competitive advantages. Mitigating ESG risks in the current portfolio of assets ofthe institution is of key to improve relations with investors who are willing to invest in sustainable companies, seeing in them lower risk and greater development potential. Building long-term competitive advantages in the ESG area will increase the value of enterprises in the future. The leaders of changes in sustainable activities in the world are retail, commercial banks in Europe, the USA, with the growing importance of China and Japan.
This study aimsto examine how Polish transport companies perceive changes in theireconomiccondition and the state oftheirmicroenvi-ronment compared tothe period before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Italsoaimsto identifythe relationships between self-assessment of changes in the economicsituation and the perception oftransformations in the immediate environment. Besides methods of statistical description, econometric modeling was employed in the research. It was found that Polish transport companies that provide services linked totrade with Ukraine considertheiroverall economicsituationto be better and perceive changes in demand fortheir services more positively than the surveyed transport companies in general; the changes that the companies perceive in the economic situation are determined to a significant extent by the changesthey feel in certain areas oftheir microenvironment; for companies that have noticed changes in their immediate economic environment, such as increased availability of workers on the labor market, increased domestic demand fortransport services, and reduced competition from foreign carriers, there is a higher probability of economic improvement.
