
In this work, the design and the characterization of a broadband circular polarized monopole having low-profile and wide axial ratio beamwidth were presented. The antenna was designed on readily available, inexpensive glass-reinforced epoxy substrate having an overall size of 0.56λ0×0.50λ0×0.029λ0 (at center frequency 5.5 GHz). The proposed antenna was a modification of a square-shaped monopole antenna, which incorporates a pair of peripheral slits and an off-center slot for a elliptical polarized radiation. A v-shaped notch below the feed line was introduced and extended as antenna ground to generate broadband circular polarization characteristics. The −10 dB reflection coefficient bandwidth and 3-dB axial-ratio bandwidth of the proposed antenna were measured to be of 47.6 and 27 %, respectively. The 3-dB axial ratio beamwidth of the antenna was 93.5°. The antenna proposed in this work covers multiple application frequency bands including HiperLAN/2 IEEE 802.11a (5.15 - 5.35 GHz / 5.47 - 5.725 GHz) band, WLAN frequency band (5.1 - 5.9 GHz), C-band uplink (5.925 - 6.325 GHz) and part of military application band (4.75 - 4.99 GHz). The present study was based on a participatory action research (PAR) design with the objectives of developing a participatory health care model for farmers and stakeholders involved in snakeskin gourami fish farming in Bang Bo District. The study was conducted from May 1, 2017 - April 30, 2018. The sample was composed of 85 people who were fish farmers, fish pond owners, and fish farming laborers involved in the processing and distribution of snakeskin gourami, 35 VHVs (village health volunteers), 1 registered nurse, and 1 administrator of a Tambon Health Promoting Hospital (THPH) for a total of 122 subjects. The PAR process involved 3 stages: Stage 1- Situation Analysis, Stage 2 - Participatory Action Research Process, and Stage 3 - Outcome Evaluation. The findings revealed 2 types of health problems: 1) work-related problems: incorrect work behaviors such as lifting heavy objects 1 - 5 times per day, repetitive work postures/positions causing aching bones and muscles and working fast to obtain large amounts and finish in time until work-related accidents occur such as knife cuts, pricked fingers from fish fins and slips/fallsand 2) Risks and illnesses caused by chronic disease. The synthesis of the participatory health care model disclosed that the health care activities covered 4 dimensions, encompassing health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, and recovery. The sample had a high level of satisfaction in the organization of the project at a mean of 4.40 of 5 points.
Vinegar is a liquid product produced from alcoholic and acetous fermentation. Vinegar contains acetic acid and bioactive compounds, which are brewed by liquid-state and solid-state fermentation techniques. This study reviews chemical fermentation process properties, bioactive compounds, and health benefits of fruit vinegars in Thailand. Chemical properties are the alcohol percentage and acetic acid percentage of vinegar. Bioactive compounds include antioxidant activity and total phenolic content, which have the role of antioxidative activity, blood pressure and glucose control, and anti-tumor. However, further studies are needed to find the new fruit raw materials to produce fruit vinegar which have more bioactive compound and more good taste.
Biogas upgraded to biomethane can be utilized as a renewable energy source to substitute LPG in households and industry. This study explored biogas upgrading by CO2 removal from 20 - 75 % CO2-N2 simulated biogas mixture. The experimental unit using the microbubble technique combined with the water absorption column was set up and used for CO2 removal from the gas. Microbubble sizes of 20 - 30 µm were generated by a venturi ejector and measured with an automated bubble size measurement. The experiments confirmed that a microbubble with an inline mixer could enhance the effectiveness of the absorption process. The tests demonstrated over 85.80 % removal of CO2 from the simulated biogas by the experimental unit. The effects of various parameters, including the size of venturi ejector, gas flow rate, water flow rate, liquid-gas ratio, and initial concentration of CO2, were investigated. The results revealed that 2 L/min gas flow rate, 15 L/min water flow rate, L/G ratio 7.5, and venturi ejector size 0.50 inches are the optimum conditions. The use of the tube absorber gave much higher CH4 recovery than an absorption column. The appropriate operating conditions gave over 96 % CH4 concentration or less than 4 % CO2 concentration, matching the CH4 purity required by biomethane specifications. The results indicated that the new technique demonstrated in this study can upgrade biogas to biomethane.
Tis study aimed to evaluate the embryo quality and embryo transfer rate of Thai crossbred goats fed different levels of protein in total mixed rations (TMR) during the hot season. Twenty-four non- pregnant Thai crossbred goats with an average body weight of 26±5.9 kg were assigned with a random complete block design (RCBD). Dietary treatments contained 8, 13, and 18 % crude protein (CP) in TMR. The feeding trial lasted for 42 days. Does (female goat) were scheduled to determine embryo quality by surgical laparotomy and flushing. At the end of the feeding trial, the digestion trial was conducted by the total collection method for a 5-day period. The results showed that the average total feed intake and feed conversion ratio did not differ among all treatments (p ˃ 0.05), however, digestible protein intake had increased from 70.39, 79.77 to 89.11 g/d in 8, 13, and 18 % CP group, respectively. Increasing CP levels in TMR resulted in linearly increased goat final body weight (30.25, 28.75, and 32.00 kg), weight gain (3.00, 4.00, and 4.25 kg), and average daily gain (ADG) (87.84, 114.87 and 121.63 g/d). Embryo quality (1, 1, and 3.5 morular follicle state) and pregnancy of embryo transfer rate (25, 25, and 50 %) of the animal received CP level at 8 and 13 % less than that 18 %. These results indicated that dietary protein level during program superovulation regimen affected the good quality of an embryo and the pregnancy rate in an embryo transfer in Thai crossbred goats.
The Plackett-Burman’s experiemental design was used to efficiently select the key cultural parameters for the production of halophilic glutaminase by moderating halophilic bacterium Tetragenococcus muriaticus FF5302. Eleven variables were selected, which involved glutamine, peptone, yeast extract, glucose, fructose, KCl, MgSO4, NaCl, temperature, pH, and inoculum size, to identify the most significant variables affecting halophilic glutaminase production in 12 experimental trials. The results of the statistical analyses demonstrated that glutamine, pH, and temperature had significant effects on halophilic glutaminase production. The maximum halophilic glutaminase activity of 199.27 U mL-1 was observed after 120 h of fermentation. After Plackett-Burman’s design experiments, the glutaminase activity was found to be 2.28 folds increase compared to basal conditions. Thus, the cultivation of T. muriaticus FF5302 under the optimal condition could enhance the production of halophilic glutaminase enzyme effectively.
The nutrition values of jasmine rice, i.e., Khao Dowk Mali (KDM) 105, from the Tung Samrit area covering 14 districts of Nakhon Ratchasima province of Thailand, were analyzed during the production seasons in 2015 and 2016. The analyzed values involved moisture, carbohydrate, protein, fat, energy, ash, vitamin E, vitamin B1, niacin B3, iron, zinc, and 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP) contents. One of the values, 2-AP, a major aroma compound, showed significantly higher the other kinds of rice (2.71±0.05 (mg/100 g)). The comparison to the literature suggests that the rice product from the Tung Samrit area is up to the national standard. In addition to the use in the documentation for the geographical indication (GI) registration, the collaborated plans and policy were derived with the participation of farmers, dealers, and government agencies to promote sustainable “Tung Samrit jasmine rice”. The term “broken rice” refers to fragments of rice grains broken during the milling process. Broken rice is generally classified into 3 sizes: large, medium, and small. Broken rice can be widely used for the pet food industry, livestock feeding, aquaculture, laundry starch, cosmetics, and textile manufacture. The purpose of this study was to determine certain properties of raw large broken rice (LBR) and small broken rice (SBR) of 4 commercially important varieties: Khao Dawk Mali105 (KDML105), Pathumtani1 (PTT1), Chainat1 (CN1), and Kor-khor6 (RD6). The properties analyzed were pasting properties, alkali spreading value, gel consistency, chemical composition, and amylose content. Volatile components of the LBR and SBR samples were also identified. Results revealed that each rice variety had different rheological characteristics. SBR of KDML105, PTT1, and CN1 had alkaline spreading value (ASV) in the range of 3 - 7. The rice flour gel of the glutinous rice variety RD6 showed the highest flow distance in both LBR and SBR forms. CN1 had the highest amylose content in both LBR and SBR forms, while RD6 had the lowest. Among all the samples, the 6 most abundant volatile components detected were alcohols, aldehydes, furans, ketones, sulfur, and terpenes. The 3 volatile compounds with the highest odor active values (OAV) in both LBR and SBR forms were hexanal, heptanal, and 3-methylbutanal.
Unhealthy eating behaviors are one of the major causes of Coronary vascular disease (CVD). The self-management program combined with social support (CIP) was implemented to improve the patients’ self-management ability and maintain their eating behaviors to a healthier standard. The purpose of this study was to compare the scores of self-management and healthy eating behaviors of patients with CVD in the experimental CIP group before and after participation in the CIP. It also compared self-management and healthy eating behavior scores between patients with CVD who entered the CIP with the usual nursing care group. This study was a quasi-experimental approach with 2 groups of pre-and post-tests. The sample size of 50 cases, 25 in each group, was considered for the study. Questionnaires were used to assess the patient’s self-management and healthy eating behavior scores. Descriptive statistics, dependent t-test, and independent t-test were used for the data analysis. The findings revealed that the experimental group showed a significantly (p < 0.05) increased average self-management (46.2 ± 5.6 to 51.1 ± 5.9) and healthy eating behaviors (39.3 ± 5.5 to 48.4 ± 4.0) scores after the program than before. They also had a significantly (p < 0.05) higher self-management and healthy eating behavior scores than the control group (51.1 ± 5.9 vs. 48.9 ± 6.0 and 48.4 ± 4.0 vs. 39.8 ± 7.5, respectively). This program increased the patients’ self-management scores, and consequentially their healthy eating behaviors score also improved. A pricing factor plays a dominant role in consumer behavior in most countries affected by the COVID19 pandemic. People have lost their job while others renegotiated for low-paying jobs during this pandemic. Thus, this article aims to develop a viable model to consider various aspects of the COVID19 pandemic. Here, we develop an optimal ordering quantity inventory model of deteriorating items, which are still in demand depending upon the selling price of the product. The items are assumed to be non-instantaneous deteriorating. The shortage is allowed in lead time and is partially backlogged. A solution procedure is presented to determine an optimal cycle, order quantity, and total average cost. A realistic numerical example is given to validate the proposed model by changing different systems of parameters, where sensitivity analysis has been carried out. The effectiveness of the system has been observed through graphical representation. HIGHLIGHTS The study considers the inventory model for non-instantaneous deteriorating items. This study investigated the synergistic antibacterial potentials of Ocimum gratissimum (O. gratissimum) leaf acetone extract, honey, and ciprofloxacin against some multiple antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Multiple antibiotic-resistant bacterial isolates from stool samples of diarrhea patients and their typed cultures were subjected to inhibitory assay by mixtures of extract and honey, extract and ciprofloxacin, honey and ciprofloxacin, and extract, honey and ciprofloxacin using tube dilution method. Killing rate and mechanisms of action of the mixtures on the susceptible pathogens were determined. The multiple antibiotic resistance indices of the test organisms (MARI) ranged from 0.7 to 1.0. Extract, honey, and ciprofloxacin mixture at ratio 1:1:1 exerted the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration on E. coli, P. aeruginosa ATCC 10145, E. coli ATCC 25922, and S. typhi ATCC 14028 at 1.56×10-3 mg/mL compared with ciprofloxacin (3.13×10-3 mg/mL). Highest potassium, sodium, and protein leakage was induced by extract and honey mixture (97.4 cmol/g) in E. coli, extract, honey, and ciprofloxacin mixture (65.2 cmol/g) in B. cereus, and extract, honey, and ciprofloxacin mixture (21.6 mg/mL) in B. cereus, respectively. Extract, honey, and ciprofloxacin mixture exerted highest killing rate on B. cereus after 24 h (1.3×101 cfu/mL). These findings revealed a high synergistic antibacterial potential of O. gratissimum leaf acetone extract, honey, and ciprofloxacin against multiple drug-resistant bacteria, thus, implying their potential use in diarrhea treatment.
Green nanoparticles are receiving great attention due to their broad fields of application. Plant extracts are promising sources, since the synergizing process is easy and cost-effective. Green synergism offers safer nanomaterials for both human health and the environment. The antimicrobial application of prepared nanoparticles is due to special capabilities at the nanoscale size. Green zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) from lemongrass and turmeric revealed good antibacterial properties. Antibacterial active compounds were extracted from lemongrass and turmeric using methanol as a solvent. The extracts were introduced to zinc oxide solution to create synergized green ZnONPs and tested for their antibacterial properties. The samples were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, FTIR, and GC-MS. The zones of inhibition of synergized green ZnONPs were successfully measured using the disc diffusion method. The findings using gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli. showed a higher antibacterial inhibition zone, with a diameter of 1.6 cm. The gram-positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus., showed low antibacterial inhibition. The addition of ZnO had positively revealed greater inhibition. Amphora coffeaeformis is a benthic diatom and serves as a rich nutritional feed for various aquaculture industries. The objective of this experiment was to compare the effects of different nitrogen sources on the growth and biochemical composition of the diatom (A. coffeaeformis) culture. Sodium nitrate in Guillard’s f medium, used as a control treatment, was compared with sodium nitrite and ammonium sulfate. The results in the 3rd batch of culture showed that all treatments led to the highest growth on Day 6. The highest cell dry weight occurred in the ammonium sulfate treatment with significance (0.78±0.06 mg/mL). The cultures in each treatment were harvested at the exponential phase (Day 3) for biochemical composition analysis. A. coffeaeformis in the ammonium sulfate treatment significantly accumulated the highest protein content, at 44.82 % by dry weight, while the highest lipid content at 29.78 % by dry weight was significantly found in the sodium nitrate treatment. The cell size and structure showed no significant differences among the treatments. The experiment demonstrated the effects of different nitrogen sources on the growth and biochemical composition of A. coffeaeformis. After that, we selected A. coffeaeformis that was cultured with the nitrate and ammonia nitrogen sources for feeding to shrimp larvae. This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of A. coffeaeformis on the growth, survival rate, salinity stress test, and ammonia stress test for shrimp. The experiment was designed with four treatments, as follows: 1) the control feed with flake winner (no water exchange for 28 days), 2) Am-NO3 supplement with A. coffeaeformis cultured using nitrates (no water exchange for 28 days), 3) Am-NH3 supplement with A. coffeaeformis cultured using ammonia (no water exchange for 28 days), and 4) the positive control feed with flake winner (daily water exchange at 20 %). The results showed that the growth of shrimp fed with the diet supplemented with A. coffeaeformis cultured using nitrate and ammonia were not significantly different from the negative and positive controls (P > 0.05). However, the survival rate in the negative control was significantly lower than the other groups (P < 0.05). In this study, the stress test for white shrimp postlarvae utilized 2 methods: the ammonia or salinity stress tests. The survival rate of the shrimp after the ammonia stress test was not statistically and significantly different (P > 0.05). However, the results from the salinity stress test indicated that the highest survival rate was observed in the shrimp fed with the diet supplemented with A. coffeaeformis cultured using nitrate. A. coffeaeformis cultured with the sodium nitrate treatment had a positive effect on shrimp tolerance to salinity changes.
The novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was declared a global health crisis. The real-time accurate and predictive model of the number of infected cases could help inform the government of providing medical assistance and public health decision-making. This work is to model the ongoing COVID-19 spread in Thailand during the 1st and 2nd phases of the pandemic using the simple but powerful method based on the model-free and time series regression models. By employing the curve fitting, the model-free method using the logistic function, hyperbolic tangent function, and Gaussian function was applied to predict the number of newly infected patients and accumulate the total number of cases, including peak and viral cessation (ending) date. Alternatively, with a significant time-lag of historical data input, the regression model predicts those parameters from 1-day-ahead to 1-month-ahead. To obtain optimal prediction models, the parameters of the model-free method are fine-tuned through the genetic algorithm, whereas the generalized least squares update the parameters of the regression model. Assuming the future trend continues to follow the past pattern, the expected total number of patients is approximately 2,689 - 3,000 cases. The estimated viral cessation dates are May 2, 2020 (using Gaussian function), May 4, 2020 (using a hyperbolic function), and June 5, 2020 (using a logistic function), whereas the peak time occurred on April 5, 2020. Moreover, the model-free method performs well for long-term prediction, whereas the regression model is suitable for short-term prediction. Furthermore, the performances of the regression models yield a highly accurate forecast with lower RMSE and higher R2 up to 1-week-ahead. In 2019, 1.1 to 2.4 million adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19 were living with HIV worldwide. In Thailand, there were approximately 5,400 new HIV cases among children and adolescents between the ages of 10 to 19 as a result of unprotected sex. This study, using 2-group pretest-posttest and repeated measures quasi-experimental design, examined the effects of the nurse’s support for the adolescents-led HIV/AIDS sexual transmission prevention program using social media on behavioral intention and perceived effectiveness of HIV/AIDS preventive behaviors among adolescents with HIV/AIDS. The study was conducted from April 2016 to July 2017. Purposive sampling was performed to recruit 70 adolescents with HIV/AIDS. The data were collected before day 1 and after receiving the program on days 15 and 30. The program and questionnaires were validated by 3 experts. The reliabilities of the behavioral intentions and perceived effectiveness of HIV/AIDS preventive behaviors questionnaires were examined, yielding Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of 0.80 and 0.96 respectively. Data were analyzed using a Friedman-test, a Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank test, and a Mann-Whitney U-test. Results revealed that there were significant differences in the overall mean ranks of behavioral intention and perceived effectiveness of HIV/AIDS preventive behaviors at the baseline, on days 15 and 30 in the experimental group (p < 0.001) whereas there were no significant differences in the control group (p > 0.05). There were significant differences in the mean ranks of behavioral intention and perceived effectiveness of HIV/AIDS preventive behaviors measured on days 15 and 30 between the control and experimental groups (p < 0.001). Thus, nurses implementing a social media program for adolescents with HIV/AIDS may have a significantly positive impact on sexual transmission prevention.
The use of ZnO nanoparticles in the fabrication of PVA (Mowiol 4-88) nanocomposites with different ‘x’ filling compositions through solvent casting technique leading to the enrichment of the host's physical properties is presented. The sol-gel approach synthesizes Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles. The formation of ZnO nanoparticles of size 100 nm was confirmed through X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Field Effect Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) techniques. The XRD technique determines the appearance of nanocomposites and their structural properties. The improvement in filling concentration enhances the particle size up to 150 nm and percentage crystallinity by 41 % for optimum filler composition. The FTIR spectra demonstrate ZnO nanofillers' binding with OH group of host Mowiol 4-88 through intra or inter hydrogen bonding leading to a complex conformation. The optical studies indicate a decrease in the energy gap with the rise in filler composition up to 15 wt%, and frequency-dependent dielectric constant characterization shows the enhancement in the dielectric constant with an optimum filling concentration 15 wt% ZnO nanofillers. FESEM image confirms homogenous distribution and complex particle size of incorporated ZnO nanoparticles in the PVA matrix. Honey acts as an antibacterial without side effects, and also contains antiseptic substances which function to inhibit bacterial growth. This study aimed to isolate the Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) in Sumbawa white honey and the bioactive compounds produced as pathogenic antibacteria. The 1st stage in this study was the isolation of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in Sumbawa white honey, then continued with a grading test, morphological test, catalase test, methyl red test, and the last test, namely the antimicrobial test against 5 pathogenic bacteria (Salmonellatyhposa, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter ludwigii, and Leclerciaadecarboxylata). Data analysis was performed using the Analysis of variance (ANOVA) test at a confidence level of 0.05 with SPSS 24. Based on the results of sequencing analysis, it was found that the 5 selected isolates were Enterococcus faecium species. The Enterococcus faecium species obtained from the sequencing results had different strains. The accession numbers of the 5 Enterococcus faecium were: Isolate-03 with a percentage of 97.29 % (accession number: KU324920.1), Isolate-07 has a percent identity of 97.36 % (accession number: MF108201.1), Isolate-09 of 97.73 % (accession number: CP041261.3), Isolate-20 with a percentage of 96.40 % (accession number: MN511819.1), and Isolate-24 with a percentage of 98.61 % (accession number: KM495938.1). These isolates can inhibit the growth of all tested pathogenic bacteria treated with 100 % LAB metabolites and were not significantly different (p > 0.05) compared to a positive control (Ampicillin). The sap or latex injury in mango reduces fruit quality as it causes skin blemish during harvesting and postharvest handling. Sap volume and visual quality of ‘Carabao’ mango as affected by different harvest times during the day (every hour from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM), delay in cutting (hourly up to 6 h) of the pedicel at either the pedicel base or at the abscission zone and different desapping agents applied 1 or 7 h from harvest were assessed. Sap injury was assessed by allowing the sap to flow on the fruit after re-cutting the pedicel at the abscission zone. Sap volume was measured during harvesting while sap injury, days to table ripe stage, visual quality, weight loss, degree of anthracnose and stem end rot were assessed during fruit storage. The experiments were laid out using the completely randomized design. Sap volume ranged from 0.06 to 0.25 mL fruit-1. The lowest sap volume was recorded in fruit harvested in the afternoon between 1:00 and 5:00 PM, while the highest volume was noted at 7:00 and 10:00 AM. The relative humidity of the air was highest at 7:00 AM. Better quality at table ripe stage was noted in mango fruit harvested at 1:00 - 2:00 and 4:00 - 5:00 PM. Sap injury at different harvest times did not vary. The delay in the destemming up to 6 h and the location of cut or pedicel length did not affect sap volume and fruit quality. However, the cutting of the pedicel at the abscission zone rather than at the pedicel base tended to result in better quality, which helped delay fruit ripening. All desapping treatments, such as 1.0 % alum, 1.0 % detergent, 0.5 % lime [Ca(OH)2], and water, could control sap injury. Untreated fruit showed longer shelf life due to a lower degree of anthracnose. Stem-end rot did vary among desapping agents. Among the desapping treatments, water is found to reduce sap damage better. Harvesting later in the day, cutting at the abscission zone, and washing mangoes with water can reduce sap or latex damage in ‘Carabao’ mango.
The development of a sustainable product using natural resources will gain much attention nowadays. This work aimed to study the effect of aqueous enzymatic extraction (AEE) using a different ratio of enzyme cocktails HEL1 and X7 towards the production of Momordica charantia L. (M. charantia) seed oil and to identify the composition of the seeds’ lignocellulosic biomass (extracted-free materials, EFM). The M. charantia seed oil contained omega-3 fatty acids, such as stearidonic acid, that possess hypotriglyceridemic properties. The oil obtained was derivatized to fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) before biochemical quantification using gas chromatography (GC). The EFM was subjected to Soxhlet extraction and further analyzed to identify lignin, acid-soluble sugars, and hemicellulose composition. The results showed that the highest seed oil percentage, (6.26±0.53 %) was extracted from M2 sample using a combination of 5 % HEL1 to 1.25 % X7 enzyme cocktails, as compared to the extraction without enzyme (3.32±0.38 %). The percentage of stearidonic acid in the seed oil increased from 13.55 % (without enzyme) to 19.43 % (M2), proving that there were some change in terms of fatty acid composition in the seed oil.
