Wprowadza do polskiej refleksji lingwistycznej pojęcie normatywności algorytmicznej, rozumianej jako zdolność systemów komputerowych do narzucania użytkownikom określonych wzorców językowych poprzez mechanizmy sugestii, korekty i generowania tekstu. Artykuł osadza to pojęcie w tradycji polskiej lingwistyki normatywnej, proponując rozszerzenie klasycznego modelu normy o wymiar algorytmiczny. Część empiryczna prezentuje wyniki pilotażowego badania dwutorowego: analizy zachowań autokorekty i dużych modeli językowych wobec form będących przedmiotem wahań normatywnych w polszczyźnie oraz badania ankietowego postaw użytkowników wobec poprawek algorytmicznych.
The article aims to identify and describe the mechanisms of the rhetoric of fear employed in conservative media to construct a specific representation of migrants and to influence attitudes among Poles toward individuals arriving in Poland from other countries. A rhetorical analysis was conducted on texts published between January and October 2025 in three opinion weeklies: “Sieci”, “Do Rzeczy”, and “Gazeta Polska”. The analysis identified four principal mechanisms of the rhetoric of fear: the escalation of threats, the demonization of migrants, dystopization, and a conspiracy worldview. It also revealed a range of rhetorical devices used to evoke fear, including accumulation, perseveration, nominalization, framing, the use of metaphors and symbols, stereotyping, and personalization.
The article explores selected approaches to understanding and defining the concept of language awareness in contemporary linguistic research. The author examines how language awareness may be conceptualized, the contexts in which it can be discussed, and the ways in which it can be inferred. The study also presents one method for studying language awareness in language users, and identifies the groups to which such research may be applicable. The findings indicate that defining language awareness requires multiple perspectives to be considered. On the one hand, language awareness may be construed as explicitly possessed linguistic knowledge, and on the other, as language competence, understood as the ability to apply this knowledge appropriately in communication.
This article explores the semantic evolution of the word melancholia (‘melancholy’) in the Polish language. Early studies of melancholy were predominantly medical in character, though they also exhibited a degree of interdisciplinarity. From the 19th century onwards, cultural and literary associations began to develop, accompanied by cognitive and aesthetic values, such as an expanded notion of ‘seeing with the heart’ and of beauty. In contemporary usage, melancholia functions only to a limited extent as a medical term, having largely been replaced by the broader and more precisely defined term depresja (‘depression’). At the same time, melancholia has retained its primarily cultural dimension, along with strong literary connotations.
The perception of time in everyday language may reflect culturally determined meanings. A particularly relevant issue concerns the functioning of time units – such as seconds, hours, days, weeks, months, and years – in everyday speech. This article examines how individuals under the age of 30 and over the age of 60 conceptualize and verbalize subjective experiences of time. The analysis is based on selected statements and on descriptions of the concept of time as categorized by younger and older participants. A secondary objective is to identify similarities and differences in these accounts in order to determine whether, and to what extent, the two age groups share common semantic elements or differ in their perception of time. The findings indicate that biological age influences the perception of particular temporal units. However, whether a given unit is experienced as lengthening or shortening depends on contextual factors and on the spheres of everyday life in which individuals function.
The article contributes to the broader debate on the presence of evaluative judgments in scientific discourse across its various subdisciplines. Its aim is to analyse the linguistic means of negative evaluation and their functions in online polemical texts concerning the field of positive psychology. The study examines five popular-science articles and six theoretical scholarly publications serving as supplementary sources. The linguistic devices analysed – operating at the lexical, syntactic, and textual levels – include adjectives and adverbs, nouns, verbs, participles, modal predicates, phraseological units, proverbs, and metaphors, all of which serve axiological purposes. The conclusions address the objects of evaluation, the types of linguistic and stylistic devices employed in evaluative and persuasive criticism, the genre-based rationale for the presence of evaluative markers and stylistic markers of subjectivity in the analysed texts, and the research gaps identified in the course of the study.
The article analyzes the process of constructing a linguistic representation of Ukraine and Ukrainians in selected Soviet and contemporary Russian propaganda texts. The author compares methods of linguistic manipulation in light of the concept of cognitive warfare and Grażyna Habrajska’s definition of propaganda. It is assumed that both sets of sources, despite the significant temporal distance and divergent political contexts, employ similar narrative mechanisms and propaganda constructs, such as the notions of “brotherhood,” ethnic and linguistic unity between Russians and Ukrainians, the myth of the Pereiaslav Agreement, and the alleged lack of genuine statehood of Ukraine. The analysis is based on Soviet monographs on the history of Ukraine as well as on articles and speeches by President Vladimir Putin. The author argues that these contemporary sources constituted an ideological contribution to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The timeliness and relevance of this study stem from the observation that imperial rhetoric and linguistically encoded imperial perspectives seem to be currently experiencing a revival.
Giving false testimony has been criminalized by the Polish legislature in the principal source of domestic criminal law, namely Article 233 of the Criminal Code. The paper aims at characterizing this offence from a jurilinguistic – i.e., interdisciplinary – perspective. Perjury is therefore examined both from the standpoint of criminal law, as an offence undermining the proper functioning of the justice system as a public good protected by law, and from a linguistic perspective, specifically a pragmatic one, as a speech act with distinctive features. Moreover, the offence of giving false testimony may also be committed through omission – by failing to perform a speech act in circumstances where it is legally required. This dimension renders it a particularly compelling example of a linguistic crime of omission from a research perspective.
The article aims to reconstruct the linguacultural representation of the Polish incel. Although the term incel originated in English-language online discourse, it is now also used in Polish. However, research on incel activity in the Polish-language online sphere remains scarce. The paper presents selected profiles of the concept of ‘incel’, enabling a more nuanced understanding of its characteristics and its subjectively construed variants. The primary methodological framework employed is that of the linguistic worldview (JOS). The research material was excerpted from the Polish microblogging platform Wykop.pl, and comprises posts and comments published between 2019 and 2024, including multimodal content such as photographs, images, and memes.
The article is divided into four parts. In the first one, the author examines the consistency between the entries in Mały słownik ortograficzny. Nowe zasady pisowni i interpunkcji 2026 and the spelling and punctuation rules (in force since 2026) issued by the Council for the Polish Language. The second part addresses the clarity of decisions concerning the selection of entries, the consistency of the structure of entries relating to similar types of expressions, and the coherence of these decisions with respect to comparable semantic categories. The third part highlights new spelling issues arising from the introduced changes, which require regulation either through separate provisions to be introduced in Zasady pisowni i interpunkcji or, at the very least, through a supplement to the existing regulations. In the final part, the author discusses the method of publishing the dictionary, with particular attention to the procedure for introducing further revisions, and calls for greater transparency in the implementation of corrections.
This article, based on an analysis of Polish dialects, examines an important dimension of rural life, namely farm management. Its aim is to reconstruct the dialectal representation of the homestead master (whether wealthy or poor, managing a large or small holding), the homestead mistress in her capacity both as farm manager and the master’s wife, the quality of farm management, and the homestead itself (prosperous or impoverished, large or small), on the basis of the collected and analyzed lexical material. The lexical-semantic analysis results in a multifaceted portrayal of farm managers, the practice of farm management, and the rural estate, as conceptualized in terms of wealth, scale, and quality.
