Through the Arch: Electronic Serials from Acquisition to Access, held April 24–25, 1998, Regal Riverfront, St. Louis, Missouri, was sponsored by the Serials Section of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) and the Missouri Library Network Corporation. This second electronic serials institute offered by ALCTS provided discussion, overview, and practical issues for anyone involved with electronic serials. Nearly all speakers mentioned licensing and archiving issues during the day-and-a-half sessions. The changing nature of a serial in an online version, training patrons and library staff, systems issues, accuracy of information, and security presented opportunities to learn and discuss. Practical considerations for e-journals in cataloging, acquiring, selecting vendors or aggregators, and collection management gave participants an excellent grasp of all aspects of this complex and fluid information environment. © 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd
