Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of high-fidelity simulation and hybrid methods on the anxiety levels, knowledge, and skills of nursing students providing postoperative care to patients with cervical spinal trauma. Material and Method: This quasi-experimental, prospective, controlled study included 48 senior nursing students, who were divided into three groups (control, simulation, and hybrid). Study data were collected using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, knowledge forms, and skill assessment forms. Data were analyzed using the paired t-tests, two-factor MANOVA, and one-way ANOVA. Results: The results indicated significant improvements in trait anxiety and knowledge scores before and after training, as well as after the simulation application (p<0.05), for both the simulation and hybrid groups. Changes in state anxiety (F=22.365, p<0.001), trait anxiety (F=4.637, p=0.014), and knowledge scores (F=78.371, p<0.001) were significant independent of group, and within-group analyses showed that both groups benefited from the intervention. Additionally, the hybrid group achieved higher mean practice scores than the simulation group after the simulation application (t=- 2.84, p=0.008). Conclusion: Although the study found all simulation methods effective in improving knowledge, the hybrid simulation method was more effective in improving skills. Hybrid simulation methods involving standardized patients should be considered a particularly effective teaching approach in surgical nursing education to prepare nursing students for their future professional practice.
Nursing, which is a profession aimed at serving the society, has emerged as a result of human needs. With this feature, its beginning dates back to the existence of man. The acceptance of nursing as a profession was realised after the efforts of Florence Nightingale after the XIXth century. The need for nursing services in our country manifested itself mostly during the war years. During the Tripoli, Balkan and World War I, it was decided to take measures because health services could not meet the need and/or could not be provided at an adequate level. Nursing courses were opened within the Hilal-i Ahmer Society, which started to operate for these purposes in 1911. The nurses trained in these courses served on the Ottoman fronts. Safiye Huseyin Elbi is one of these nurses. She served as the head nurse of the Relit Pala Ferry, which provided the first interventions to the wounded coming from the fronts during the & Ccedil;anakkale Wars and ensured that they reached Istanbul. Safiye Huseyin Elbi, who devoted her life to the nursing profession, worked not only on the fronts but also in many European countries as a representative of Hilal-i Ahmer after the war. Safiye Huseyin Elbi, whose work was awarded with many medals and commendations, made significant contributions to the institutionalisation of nursing activities in the Republican period. In this study, the life of Safiye Huseyin Elbi, a pioneer in the nursing profession and one of the best female representatives of the Republic's representation of modern women, a pioneer who witnessed both the Ottoman Empire and the Republican period and made significant contributions in the field of nursing, was revealed by making use of archives, newspapers, memoirs and analytical works. In this study, it is aimed to increase the recognition of Safiye Huseyin Elbi, who is accepted as the founder of modern nursing in Turkey, and to reveal her exemplary struggle.
Objective: To measure montelukast and levocetirizine levels in blood samples from allergic rhinitis (AR) patients using a validated liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and to investigate the relationship between both drugs and various parameters such as hematological parameters. Material and Method: Thirty-three AR patients were randomly assigned to receive montelukast (10 mg) and levocetirizine (5 mg) on admission and every evening for four weeks thereafter. Patients who were started on medication due to routine clinical necessity were included in the study. Results: Serum montelukast and levocetirizine levels of AR patients receiving 10 mg of montelukast and 5 mg of levocetirizine daily were 273.0 (12.6-4330.0) ng/mL and 362.0 (11.8-2152.0) ng/mL, respectively. A negative correlation was observed between montelukast levels and WBC, MCV, MCH, NEU, and LYM (p<0.05). Similarly, levocetirizine levels showed negative correlations with WBC (p<0.05), NEU (p<0.05), and LYM (p<0.005). In contrast, montelukast levels were positively correlated with disease duration (p<0.005) and levocetirizine levels (p<0.001). Additionally, levocetirizine levels demonstrated a positive correlation with disease duration (p<0.01). Conclusion: Montelukast and levocetirizine are clinically effective and have the capacity to improve the quality of life associated with rhinitis-asthma. The developed validated tandem mass spectrometric method has been successfully applied to measure serum montelukast and levocetirizine levels in AR patients.
Objective: Problematic internet use is increasingly recognized as an important public health issue worldwide. Research indicates that this condition may trigger various behavioral problems or emerge as a consequence of different behavioral difficulties. This study aimed to examine the relationship between problematic internet use, eating attitudes, and self-harm behaviors among high school students. Material and Method: This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted with a total of 1,890 students enrolled in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades at 30 high schools randomly selected, through cluster sampling, from among 99 high schools in Denizli. Data were collected using a questionnaire form, the Young Internet Addiction Test, the Eating Attitudes Test, and the Deliberate Self-Harm Inventory. Results: Among a total of 292 Candida strains, Candida albicans (C. albicans) was isolated most frequently (42.5%), followed by C. The prevalence of problematic internet use among the participants was found to be 18.9%. It was determined that 17.2% of the students were at risk for eating behavior disorders, and 32.1% reported self-harming behaviors. Logistic regression analysis revealed a highly significant relationship between problematic internet use, eating attitudes, and self-harming behaviors (p<0.001). Conclusion: In high school students, susceptibility to eating behavior disorders and self-harm is associated with problematic Internet use. Longitudinal studies in this field are expected to provide more comprehensive information regarding the direction of these relationships. Moreover, the development and implementation of school-based programs are recommended in order to prevent the rapidly increasing behavioral addictions among adolescents.
Objective: The research was conducted to determine whether abusive management plays a role in the impact of healthcare organization employees'levels of virtual exclusion on workplace loneliness. Objective: This study aimed to characterize the clinical, laboratory, radiological, and treatment features of patients hospitalized with skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) and to evaluate factors associated with prolonged hospitalization. Material and Method: This retrospective single-center cohort study was conducted on 105 patients who followed up for Skin Soft Tissue Infections (SSTIs) at Prof. Dr. S & uuml;leyman Yal & ccedil;& imath;n G & ouml;ztepe City Hospital between 2021 and 2022. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, imaging, and treatment data were collected. Patients were grouped by hospital stay length: <14 days and >= 14 days. Group comparison was made using chi-square and Student's t-test or Mann-Whitney U test. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted. Results: The mean age was 61.3 +/- 16.2 years old (48.6% female). Comorbidities were present in 87.6%, especially diabetes (50.5%) and hypertension (40%). SSTIs mainly affected the lower extremities (71.4%). Erythema (87.6%), fever (43.8%), and warmth (42.9%) were the most common symptoms. Cellulitis (66.7%) and diabetic foot infections (22.9%) were the main diagnoses. Prior antibiotic use was reported in 62.9%. Tissue cultures were positive in 72.2% of the 54 cases, frequently identifying Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus. Empirical treatments included piperacillin-tazobactam and clindamycin; 38.1% required antibiotic changes. Median hospital stay was 8 days; 24.8% stayed >= 14 days. Longer stays were significantly associated with diabetes (39.6% vs. 9.6%, p=0.001), abnormal Doppler ultrasound (38.7% vs. 10.0%, p=0.01), and need for surgery (85.7% vs. 20.4%, p=0.001). CRP values were significantly higher in patients hospitalized for long periods. Culture positivity and pathogen type did not affect length of stay. Conclusion: Identifying high-risk patients early, using imaging and culture-guided therapy, and timely surgical intervention can help reduce hospital stays and improve outcomes in SSTI cases.
Objective: A song is created by harmoniously combining a poem (lyrics) with suitable music (composition). In Turkish music, there are numerous musical scales known as "makamlar" and rhythmic patterns called "usuller." Concepts related to health, illness, and the physician are frequently encountered in song lyrics as cultural products. This study aims to reveal the relationship between disease, treatment, and culture through the concepts of "wound" and "ointment" in songs related to physicians and health, focusing on the frequency of their use and the specific "makamlar" and "usuller" employed. Material and Method: This study is descriptive in nature. Songs containing the words "wound" and/or "ointment" from the book "Physicians in Folk Songs and Folk Songs About Health" were examined using the document analysis method. Results: Although the words "wound" are used in many contexts in the songs, they are most commonly used to mean "heartache", and the use of the word "ointment" establishes a relationship between affliction and remedy. It was found that the examined works are most often performed in the "Hicaz" mode and the "D & uuml;yek" rhythm. Discussion and Conclusion: The use of the concepts of "wound" and "ointment" to describe the psychological distress caused by love is based on the fact that "wound", as a dermatological lesion, affects people psychologically and socially and is primarily treated with "ointment." The frequent performance of these songs in the Hicaz mode suggests a connection between the impact of this mode on people and the use of the concepts of "wound" and "ointment" to mean "heartache." The respect for love among the people of Anatolia might have shown itself as a therapeutic practice, where the Hicaz mode, believed to instill humility, helps heal the "wound" caused by love by fostering a sense of humility in those afflicted by love's sorrow.
Objective: The aim of this study is to measure the vertical diameter of the mental foramen (MF) using ultrasonography (USG) and evaluate the relationship between the results based on age and gender. Material and Method: A total of 108 people, 36 people (18 women, 18 men) from each group aged 18-29, 30-39, and over 40 participated in this study. The right vertical diameter and left vertical diameter of the MF were measured from the USG images. The relationship between the measurement results and age and gender was examined. Results: A total of 216 MF images, right and left, belonging to 108 people were evaluated in this study. As a result of the measurements made with USG; the general average of the vertical diameter of the MF was found to be 2.61 (+/- 0.42) mm on the right side and 2.64 (+/- 0.45) mm on the left side. The average vertical diameter of the MF on USG was found to be higher in men than in women. The vertical diameter average of the right MF was found to be higher in the 30-39 age group than in the 18-29 age group. Conclusion: In surgical procedures to be performed in the MF region, such as implant surgery, which has become popular especially in the rehabilitation of missing teeth, knowing the MF diameter can prevent complications such as damage to this region and anesthesia. USG can be used as an alternative imaging method in cases where other imaging methods cannot be used in imaging the vertical diameter of the MF.

Objective: It is thought that bringing the generation gap in nursing to the spotlight will contribute positively to professional practices by providing a bridge between the past and the present. When the national and international literature is examined, it is seen that the studies on this subject are limited. The aim of this study is to reveal the results of how the generation gap in nursing affects nursing care, social perception of the profession, and professional values. Material and Method: This study was conducted as a qualitative research. A semi-structured interview form was used as a data collection tool. The participants consisted of 10 nurses who agreed to participate in this interview. Each interview was individual, face-to-face and indepth. The data were recorded with a voice recorder. The collected data were analyzed by content analysis method. The maximum diversity method was used to select the sample of nurses in the study group. Results: The research findings consist of 4 main themes and 15 sub-themes. The main themes in the study consist of "factors in choosing a profession", "reflection of the generation gap on professional practices", "professionalization and specialization", "professional autonomy". It was determined that the factors affecting the generation gap in nursing also affect professional practice. Individual characteristics such as the reason for choosing the profession or the presence of organizational factors such as professional conditions that improve over time, the need for professionalization and branching, and professional autonomy affect the generation gap. Conclusion: The generation gap was found to be influenced by the change in values over time. Health authorities can create a supportive environment for nurses in which they can get professional satisfaction in every period, highlight professional values and encourage nurses to professionalize.

As we examine the development of Turkish ophthalmology, a branch of Turkish medical history, we encounter physicians who contributed to its development. A review of robust archives and sources reveals that these physicians played an active role, particularly in the post-Republican era. One of these physicians, Professor Dr. & Idot;rfan Bazar, made great efforts to achieve a prominent position and achieve significant success throughout his challenging academic career. In this article, we aim to uncover some unknown aspects of his life. Furthermore, when we came across a forgotten book he wrote in the archives of the Fatma-& Ouml;mer Ekimci Library, we aimed to share brief information about it with readers. We hope those interested in the history of Turkish medicine and ophthalmology will find it useful.
Objective: This study investigates the impact of self-efficacy and health locus of control on functional capacity and quality of life in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA). It explores how these psychological factors influence pain management, mobility, and overall quality of life. Material and Method: This cross-sectional study included 110 knee OA patients aged 55-76 years. Data were collected using validated tools, including the Arthritis Self-Efficacy Scale (ASES), Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale (MHLC), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC), and Short Form-36 (SF-36). Relationships among self-efficacy, health locus of control, functional capacity, and quality of life were analyzed using Pearson correlation. Results: Higher self-efficacy was significantly associated with reduced pain, better physical and mental health, and enhanced functional capacity. An internal health locus of control correlated positively with improved outcomes, while external control and chance-fatalistic beliefs were linked to poorer functionality and reduced quality of life. These results highlight the significant influence of psychosocial factors on OA management. Conclusion: Self-efficacy and internal locus of control are key determinants of improved functional capacity and quality of life in knee OA patients. Interventions to enhance self-efficacy and a sense of control over health could significantly improve outcomes and reduce disease burden. These findings underline the importance of psychosocial strategies in strengthening patients' control perceptions and enhancing their quality of life.
Objective: Infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria and resistance to carbapenems constitute a major public health problem worldwide, due to limited treatment options and high mortality rates. In this study, we aimed to determine the resistance profiles of MDR Gram-negative bacilli isolated from clinical samples to carbapenems. Material and Method: Specimens, from which MDR Gram-negative bacteria were isolated, were cultured onto 5% sheep blood and EMB agar, and VITEK 2 automated system (bio M & eacute;rieux, France) was used for identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Data were analyzed using chi-square and Fisher's exact tests. Results: 1072 MDR bacterial strains were isolated from the specimens of 272 patients, with the majority of transtracheal aspirates (64%) sent predominantly from palliative care (49.8%) and intensive care (42%) units. The leading pathogens were Pseudomonas aeruginosa (42,1%), Acinetobacter baumannii (31,2%), and Klebsiella spp (22,5%). The highest resistance rate among carbapenems was detected to meropenem (91,6%), followed by imipenem (44,3%) and ertapenem (25%). While ertapenem resistance was significantly lower in P. aeruginosa strains (p<0,01), meropenem resistance was significantly higher in A. baumannii strains when compared to other antibiotics. Conclusion: Since Gram-negative MDR bacteria continue to spread rapidly, monitoring resistance profiles through active hospital surveillance is crucial to determine the appropriate treatment. The data obtained in this study once again highlight the importance of resistance to carbapenems and is considered to contribute to epidemiological data.
Objective: Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is an autoimmune disease that is common worldwide and may result in metabolic disorders.
