The dysfunction of the pakem rules in contemporary shadow puppet performances has become an important phenomenon that influences changes in the character of this traditional art form. The pakem, which previously served as a guideline for narrative, characters, plot, dialogue, and performance ethics, has now shifted from aesthetic standards to pragmatic interests and entertainment orientation. This shift has encouraged shadow puppet performances to follow market demands rather than maintaining traditional values. This study aims to analyze the impact of the dysfunction of pakem on the quality of shadow puppet puppet performances, focusing on three main aspects: the simplification of sulukan, the shift of authority from the dalang to guest stars, and extreme changes in performance style. The study uses a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with dalangs, pengrawits, and art observers, supported by a review of relevant literature. The results show that the dysfunction of pakem has a negative impact on the quality of performances, particularly through a reduction in the depth of cultural and aesthetic values that have long been the identity of shadow puppet. These findings emphasize the need for efforts to revitalize pakem in order to reinforce traditional values in contemporary shadow puppet performances.
Local culinarians have been mostly studied in terms of economic and tourism aspects. Beyond this material dimension, this study examines Malang meatballs, popularly called Bakso Malang, as cultural identity as a representation that serves as both a symbol of regional identity and a pillar of the creative economy. Using the lens of gastronomy, the focus of this study is to trace the historical narratives, culinary practices, and symbolic values embedded in the product. Data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation at four iconic businesses, including the grilled meatballs of Pak Man, meatballs of Damas, meatballs of Bejo, and meatballs of Priyangan. Analysis was conducted thematically with verification through triangulation of sources. The findings indicate that Malang meatballs represent a cultural identity that reflects the creativity and resilience of the local community. Sustained innovation in processing techniques and presentation styles, as seen in the businesses studied, has proven to enrich consumers’ sensory experiences without eroding their traditional roots. Strategic business locations and inclusive service offerings also contribute significantly to Malang’s culinary tourism landscape, as videnced by the achievement of 3.1 million tourist visits in 2024.
First Difference Generalized Method of Moments (FD-GMM).
The phenomenon of job termination (PHK) and promotion failure for pregnant women is a crucial issue reflecting gender inequality in the workplace. Although various studies have addressed gender-based discrimination, research that specifically examines the psychosocial impact of job termination and promotion failure on pregnant women remains limited. This study aims to understand the subjective experiences of pregnant women affected by job termination or promotion failure and to analyze how these conditions influence their emotional and social well-being. This research employs a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with several pregnant women who experienced job termination or promotion failure. Secondary data is collected through a systematic analysis of relevant online news articles. The data analysis process for this study uses thematic analysis to identify patterns of experience and the main contributing factors. The main findings reveal that job termination and promotion failure lead to high emotional distress, financial anxiety, and a sense of lost professional identity. This study contributes conceptually to understanding gender-based discrimination and enriches qualitative research methods through the combination of primary and secondary data. The study's limitations include a limited number of Informant and the potential bias of secondary data sources. Future research is recommended to expand the number and diversity of Informant, adopt a longitudinal approach, and advocate for gender-based labor protection policies to create a more inclusive and equitable work environment.
