
Waqf-based forests represent a sustainable forest management initiative that is expanding in Indonesia, integrating Islamic principles of waqf with forest management practices. Preliminary research indicated that communities surrounding Bogor Waqf Forest, one example of waqf-based forest implementation, have low income levels and expressed expectations for additional income-generating activities. This training aimed to prepare local communities around Bogor Waqf Forest to enhance sustainable ecotourism services, including hospitality and coffee service. This service-oriented capacity building was designed as a productive waqf strategy to strengthen community roles in developing sustainable ecotourism. The study applied a community-based training approach with post-test evaluation. The training comprised two sessions, namely (1) a hospitality and service excellence session and (2) a coffee training session. Based on post-test results, participants demonstrated improved knowledge and practical skills in hospitality, including receiving and serving guests, as well as in coffee preparation, including brewing and preparing several variations of coffee beverages for visitors. Overall, the training supports the productivity of waqf-based forests by equipping communities with competencies needed for community-based sustainable ecotourism.
This study aimed to strengthen disaster resilience in Sompok Hamlet, Imogiri, Bantul Regency, Indonesia, through the implementation of Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction strategies. The study developed flood and landslide hazard maps using participatory mapping, field surveys, and focus group discussions and used these outputs to design evacuation routes and supporting signage for community use. The case study was situated in the post-disaster context of the 2017 Cempaka Cyclone, which triggered severe flooding and landslides in the area. The study produced a maximum flood inundation map, delineated landslide-affected zones, and identified a safe evacuation route. These maps will be very useful in improving the communities' capacity to deal with disasters in the future. The integration of the Sipendil landslide early warning system and the flood and landslide hazard maps into community-based disaster education and local tourism management is also expected to improve preparedness in Sompok. These findings provide practical evidence for localized disaster risk reduction and may offer a transferable model for similar hazard-prone communities.
Expanding markets for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises is crucial for increasing product sales. One of the main challenges these enterprises face is limited marketing reach. Based on preliminary observations and discussions with Poklahsar groups in Kendalbulur Village, specifically Poklahsar Mina Sumber Pangan and Poklahsar Patin Condong Raos, which produce processed catfish-based products, training in digital marketing strategies was needed. To improve product competitiveness and broaden market reach to the national level, digital marketing represents a highly promising approach. This study aimed to deliver training for Poklahsar on the role of digital marketing in expanding market reach and strengthening promotional activities. The training used lectures and hands on practice, with Instagram as the primary digital marketing platform. It included educational sessions on digital marketing and step by step tutorials on how to create and manage Instagram accounts effectively. The training is able to strengthen the capacity of these Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, support business development, expand market access, and enhance product competitiveness.
This Community Service Program aims to strengthen the managerial capacity of the Employee Cooperative of PT. Pusri Palembang through training and mentoring in the preparation of a Business Plan and Budget (Rencana Bisnis dan Anggaran – RBA) based on financial statement analysis. This activity represents a continuation of community service programs conducted in Phases I–VI (2019–2024), which focused on strengthening the cooperative’s accounting information system and improving the interpretation of financial statements. The main problems faced by the cooperative include the absence of a comprehensive RBA, the suboptimal use of historical financial statements as a basis for planning, and limited formulation of targets and performance indicators for each business unit. Through intensive workshops, the development of a Digital Spreadsheet Analysis Template for RBA, and technical mentoring for all business units, the program succeeded in increasing participants’ understanding by 78%, based on post-test results. The program produced several strategic outputs, including the cooperative’s annual RBA document, an interactive RBA template integrated with the cooperative’s accounting information system, and a draft scientific publication. The mentoring activities demonstrate that cooperative managers are now able to independently prepare financial projections, set revenue and cost targets, conduct scenario analysis, and develop business plans for each operational unit. Furthermore, the program has encouraged the development of a data-driven decision-making culture and strengthened cooperative governance, enabling the cooperative to progress toward becoming a modern, professional, accountable, and sustainable business entity.
Sinduadi Village, located in Mlati Subdistrict, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is home to several active horticultural farmer groups. Among their commodity crops, longan cultivation in Sinduadi Village has faced persistent constraints, particularly low productivity. To address this limitation, a community service program was initiated to introduce a superior local variety, the ‘Sleman’ longan. This cultivar was developed through sustained research and breeding by the Laboratory of Genetics and Breeding, Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). Stingless bees, locally known as klanceng bees, play an important role as pollinators in horticultural systems. Integrating longan cultivation with stingless beekeeping as a managed pollination strategy is expected to improve longan productivity and support more sustainable farm management. The program applied a comprehensive capacity building approach, including lectures, extension sessions, hands-on training, and regular monitoring. These activities aimed to strengthen both conceptual understanding and practical competence related to cultivation of the ‘Sleman’ longan variety and stingless beekeeping management. The program resulted in an observable improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills within the Sinduadi Village farming group. Improvements in farmer capacity will be evaluated through continued monitoring of field practices and performance over time. Although short-term gains in yield have not yet been observed, substantial longer-term benefits are anticipated as the plants establish, adapt, and enter stable production. Overall, this knowledge transfer is expected to empower the community to address local agricultural constraints more independently and to promote sustained improvements in livelihood and well-being.
The Maggot Farming Information Dissemination Program in Neglasari Village aimed to help community members understand how to manage organic waste through black soldier fly (BSF) (Hermetia illucens) farming and how to utilize BSF products, including larvae as high-protein animal feed and cultivation residue as organic fertilizer. This approach not only benefits the environment but also creates local economic opportunities. The program included theory sessions, hands-on maggot-farming practice, and interactive discussions on farming techniques and marketing strategies. It was conducted on January 12, 2025, at Saung Giwangkara River Tubing and was attended by 15 participants, including farmers and village youth. The program received a positive response, as evidenced by the formation of a maggot-farming group committed to independently developing this business. In addition to reducing organic waste, this initiative also provides a new source of high-nutrition animal feed. However, several challenges were identified, including limited pre-event promotion, which resulted in fewer participants at the beginning of the activity, and limited participant knowledge of marketing strategies. Despite these constraints, with stronger support from the village government and business partners, the program has the potential to develop into a sustainable enterprise. To ensure success, further technical guidance, improved access to funding, and the establishment of a village business unit or a maggot-farming cooperative are needed. These steps will help maximize the benefits of maggot farming for the people of Neglasari Village.
The development of digital technology requires students and teachers to have digital design skills that can support learning activities, school publication, and visual communication. Canva is one of the design platforms that is easy for beginners to use because it provides templates, visual elements, text editing features, color arrangement tools, and design export options. This activity aimed to improve the digital design skills of students and teachers at SMA Nusa Bangsa Palembang through practice-based Canva training. The method used a descriptive community service approach consisting of preparation, Canva introduction, poster design demonstration, participant practice, mentoring, poster output review, and reflection. The training was conducted at SMA Nusa Bangsa Palembang and involved students and teachers as participants. The training materials focused on creating school activity posters using Canva, including template selection, text editing, adding design elements, arranging color composition, and downloading the final design. The results showed that participants were able to follow the training process and produce a school activity poster containing important information such as the activity title, schedule, requirements, contact information, and supporting visual elements. This activity provided practical experience for participants in creating school publication media that were neater, more attractive, and more communicative. Therefore, Canva training can be considered a simple and applicable strategy to improve students’ and teachers’ digital design skills in the school environment.
Bed bugs (Cimex spp.), locally known as tinggi, kepinding, or tumbila, are blood-sucking insects that inhabit dark, damp areas, including mattresses and sofas. The two main species are Cimex lectularius and Cimex hemipterus, with C. hemipterus being common in tropical regions, including Indonesia. Although their prevalence previously declined, bed bug infestations have re-emerged in recent decades, largely due to increased mobility of people and goods. This activity was conducted at the At-Taqwa Orphanage in Semarang City to improve students’ knowledge of bed bugs and their control through health education. This community service activity used a one-group pre-test and post-test design and involved 22 participants. The activities included a pre-test, an interactive education session, and a post-test. The results showed that most participants were unaware of bed bugs or their presence before the intervention. After the educational session, participants demonstrated a significant increase in knowledge and awareness. In addition to improving knowledge, this activity produced a positive outcome by strengthening participants’ awareness and their ability to independently implement bed bug prevention measures in their living environment. Health education was effective as a preventive strategy, and similar programs should be implemented regularly to improve environmental hygiene and overall public health quality.
Community service initiatives involving interactive online storytelling using Augmented Reality (AR) technology aim to provide a novel educational experience for children aged 6 to 9, particularly members of the Familia Kreativa community. Storytelling is a powerful tool for imparting moral values, fostering creativity, and promoting reading habits among children. However, contemporary delivery methods are necessary to meet the needs of today's generation. AR technology was selected for its capacity to deliver interactive and immersive three-dimensional visual elements, which enhance participant engagement. This program comprised four phases: preparation, development of storytelling materials and modules, implementation of two online storytelling sessions, and evaluation. During the sessions, participants used smart devices to scan worksheets, which revealed AR features and objects. This activity involved direct interaction between participants and the storyteller through questions, answers, and visual exploration. The results indicate that AR technology improves participants' focus, interaction, and comprehension of the narratives. Children demonstrated better recall of story elements, while parents noted that this approach effectively reduced boredom and enhanced the learning experience. AR technology shows substantial potential for fostering creative learning and visual literacy in early childhood. Its use in this initiative aligns with the goals of quality education under SDG 4 and creates opportunities for technical innovation in the broader context of early childhood education development.
Financial literacy is an individual’s ability to understand and effectively manage financial resources in order to improve household economic well-being. Low levels of financial literacy remain a major challenge in rural communities, particularly due to limited access to formal financial information and education. This community service activity aims to introduce and enhance basic financial literacy among the Muara Penimbung community through an educational and participatory approach. The implementation methods include counseling sessions, interactive discussions, and simulations of household financial recording and planning. Evaluation was conducted through participatory observation and question-and-answer sessions to identify changes in community understanding before and after the activity. The results indicate an improvement in community understanding of household financial management, the distinction between needs and wants, and the importance of family financial planning. Overall, this activity makes a positive contribution to promoting more prudent and sustainable financial behavior at the village level.
Mentoring activities in managing SINTA, Garuda, and Google Scholar accounts represent a strategic effort to improve the quality of lecturer publication governance and the performance of higher education institutions. This study aims to describe the process and outcomes of mentoring activities related to the management of SINTA, Garuda, and Google Scholar accounts for lecturers at STIKES Abdurahman Palembang and Institut Bina Sriwijaya Palembang. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and field notes during the implementation of the mentoring activities. The mentoring was conducted through material presentations, hands-on practice, and individual assistance, focusing on profile updates, publication synchronization, metadata improvement, and the creation of global researcher identifiers such as ORCID and Web of Science. The results indicate a significant improvement in institutional publication performance, particularly at Institut Bina Sriwijaya Palembang, as evidenced by an increase in the number of verified authors, SINTA Overall Score, SINTA 3-Year Score, and SINTA productivity. Meanwhile, at STIKES Abdurahman Palembang, the mentoring activities contributed to improving the accuracy and validity of lecturer publication data through cross-platform account synchronization. Overall, these mentoring activities proved effective in enhancing the quality of lecturer publication management, increasing participant engagement, and supporting sustainable improvements in academic performance and institutional visibility.
This community service activity aims to increase business creativity and foster an entrepreneurial spirit among students of SMAN 1 Pemulutan through the use of the Canva application as a digital learning medium. The background of this program stems from low digital literacy, limited visual design skills, and minimal practical experience of students in visualizing business ideas. The activity is carried out through several stages, namely socialization, Canva training, entrepreneurship training, application of design to business models, mentoring, and evaluation of understanding. The implementation method uses a classical-interactive approach based on direct practice and project-based learning, so that students are able to produce promotional posters, logos, and presentations of business ideas independently. The evaluation results show significant improvements in aspects of conceptual understanding, technical design skills, and entrepreneurial motivation, as evidenced by a comparison of pre-test and post-test results as well as the quality of visual products produced by students.
The development of digital administration requires schools to manage official documents in a more systematic, secure, and retrievable manner. Documents such as incoming letters, outgoing letters, student records, teacher files, activity reports, financial documents, and accreditation-supporting files need clear archive management procedures to prevent loss, misplacement, and retrieval difficulties. This community service activity aimed to improve participants’ understanding of official administrative document file management through archive training at SMA Nusa Bangsa Palembang. The activity was conducted on Saturday, 16 May 2026, starting at 08.00 WIB, and was attended by 13 participants consisting of students, school representatives, university students, and lecturers as the mentoring team. The method used a descriptive community service approach through several stages, including the introduction of archive concepts, official document classification, file naming standards, digital folder structure, document storage, data backup, and document retrieval simulation. The data were collected through attendance records, observation, documentation, and review of practice-based activities. The results showed that the archive training provided participants with practical understanding of how to manage school administrative documents more systematically. The activity also produced examples of document categories, folder structures, and file naming formats that can be used as references for managing official school documents. Therefore, archive training can be considered a simple and applicable strategy to support school administration, improve document retrieval, and strengthen archive management readiness in the school environment.
This community service activity aimed to improve primary school students’ knowledge regarding environmental chemical exposure and kidney health while introducing a simple renal screening approach as an educational awareness tool. The program was conducted in 2023 at Sekolah Dasar Negeri 6 Kendari and involved 30 grade 5 and grade 6 students selected using accidental sampling. The activities consisted of interactive, age-appropriate education sessions and preliminary screening using urine protein dipstick testing, together with serum urea and creatinine measurements. Knowledge scores increased from a mean of 3.13 (SD 1.93) before the education sessions to 8.83 (SD 1.02) after the sessions (p < 0.001), indicating substantial short-term improvement in understanding. Most participants had negative urine protein findings, with a small proportion showing low-level positivity, whereas biochemical values were generally within expected ranges. The screening results are presented descriptively to support awareness and should not be interpreted as a clinical diagnosis or as evidence of impaired renal function. Overall, the activity demonstrates the feasibility of integrating school-based health education with simple screening to promote awareness and engagement, providing a practical model for community health promotion while avoiding overstatement of clinical implications.
Adolescent mental health is receiving growing attention across sectors, including within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). As faith-based educational institutions, pesantren are well positioned to support students’ psychological development; however, adolescents in these settings may face stressors related to academic demands, social adjustment, and communal living. This program implemented Helping Adolescents Thrive (HAT) training using an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach to strengthen students’ life skills, emotional regulation, and resilience. The intervention used interactive lectures, guided discussions, and simulations and was delivered to female students at Darul Aman Islamic Boarding School. Implementation occurred in three stages: (1) identification and mapping of community assets within the pesantren, (2) delivery of HAT training aligned with those assets, and (3) evaluation of program impact. Findings indicatedimproved participant understanding of mental health and positive changes in self-concept. The ABCD framework also appeared to increase students’ confidence in addressing challenges and their openness to seeking support when experiencing psychosocial difficulties. Overall, ABCD-informed HAT training shows promise for promoting adolescent mental health in pesantren settings, although additional multi-site evaluations are needed to assess broader applicability.
The incidence of cancer in the elderly population is increasing as life expectancy rises. In addition, the number of elderly patients with cancer has increased and is expected to continue to grow with advances in cancer treatment. Cancer commonly develops in elderly people aged ≥55 years. This study aimed to improve the elderly’s knowledge of cancer prevention. This observational, cross-sectional study was conducted in RW 23, Brontokusuman Village, Yogyakarta, and targeted the elderly who were members of the Pemberdayaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga/PKK (Family Welfare Empowerment). This activity included a pretest, followed by education delivered through direct presentations, and a posttest to evaluate outcomes after the educational intervention. A sample of 34 participants was recruited using accidental sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis as well as descriptive statistics through mean, median, mode, and percentage. The results showed that the most common age group was 51–60 years (44.12%). The mean knowledge score increased from 76.47 to 91.47, with a p value of 0.000, indicating a significant improvement in knowledge before and after cancer prevention education. The greatest increases in understanding were observed for questions 10, 8, 2, and 6, respectively. Several topics demonstrated a substantial improvement, particularly those that were previously poorly understood. Community-based education may be an effective strategy for cancer prevention, particularly for the elderly population.
This community service activity was carried out at the Raudhatul Ulum Saka Tiga Islamic Boarding School, Ogan Ilir, involving 40 students from the Integrated Islamic High School as participants. The activity focused on introducing and understanding the concept of Income Tax (PPh) as an effort to foster awareness of tax obligations from an early age. The program was implemented over three days and consisted of three main stages: introduction, application, and evaluation. The introduction stage was conducted through socialization sessions and interactive video presentations explaining the basic concepts and functions of income tax in supporting national development. The application stage included simulations and simple case studies illustrating how income tax is calculated and applied in everyday economic activities. Meanwhile, the evaluation stage involved pre-tests, post-tests, and participant reflections to assess learning progress and attitude changes. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ understanding of the basic concepts of income tax and a growing awareness that paying taxes represents an act of civic and social responsibility. The novelty of this activity lies in its integration of Islamic values within tax education, where the concept of paying taxes was contextualized as part of a Muslim’s moral duty (fardhu kifayah) and contribution to communal welfare. This Islamic-based approach is particularly relevant to the boarding school environment, fostering not only tax literacy but also ethical and spiritual awareness that aligns with national and religious values.
Tapis Lampung is a cultural heritage textile that carries significant historical, aesthetic, and philosophical value and holds strong potential for development within the global creative industry. However, existing studies have largely focused on the symbolic, artistic, and preservation aspects of Tapis Lampung, with limited empirical attention given to its introduction in international professional or corporate settings and its role in fostering cross-cultural understanding. Addressing this gap, this study aims to introduce Tapis Lampung to an international audience and examine its impact on cross-cultural engagement through a presentation conducted during the Global Accounting Issues Seminar at Baiwang Co., Ltd., China. The method employed involved an interactive presentation that combined visual materials, cultural narratives, and direct examination of authentic Tapis fabrics. The results indicate that participants demonstrated increased cultural awareness and appreciation of Lampung’s values, particularly regarding the symbolic meanings and craftsmanship embedded in Tapis. These findings support existing literature asserting that traditional crafts can achieve global relevance when supported by cultural storytelling and strategic presentation. Furthermore, the activity contributed to Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy by facilitating cross-cultural dialogue and generating interest in potential international collaboration within cultural initiatives and creative economy development. Overall, this study highlights the effectiveness of narrative–visual approaches in promoting traditional cultural products globally and reinforces the positioning of Tapis Lampung as a competitive cultural and economic asset in international contexts.
This paper examines the impact of university–industry–cooperative partnerships on knowledge transfer, innovation, and skills development within higher education. Drawing on a comprehensive literature review, the study highlights the growing importance of collaborative engagement between academic institutions, industries, and cooperatives in addressing contemporary socio-economic challenges. The review reveals that such partnerships enhance the relevance of academic programmes by aligning them with industry needs, thereby equipping graduates with practical skills that improve employability and entrepreneurial readiness. They also facilitate innovation through joint research projects, knowledge co-creation, and the commercialization of academic outputs, thereby contributing to economic development. Furthermore, the study underscores the role of cooperatives as important stakeholders in these partnerships, particularly in contexts where community development and inclusive economic growth are priorities. By engaging cooperatives, universities not only strengthen local development initiatives but also encourage socially responsive research and teaching practices. Despite these benefits, the literature identifies persistent challenges such as misaligned objectives, resource constraints, and weak policy support, which can limit the effectiveness of such collaborations. Overall, the review demonstrates that sustainable university–industry–cooperative partnerships require strong governance structures, mutual trust, and supportive policy environments. The paper concludes that strengthening these collaborations is critical for improving innovation ecosystems, promoting inclusive growth, and ensuring that higher education contributes meaningfully to both economic and social development.
This study examines how Lampung’s local product; banana chips can strengthen regional identity through global service interactions, using a community engagement activity conducted at Baiwang Company, Beijing, China, as a case study. As global markets increasingly value authenticity and culturally embedded products, this initiative explores the role of service encounters, product storytelling, and cross-cultural exchange in promoting local commodities at the international level. Using a qualitative descriptive approach supported by presentations, sensory testing, field observation, and stakeholder discussions, the study identifies key factors influencing the global acceptance of Lampung banana chips, including product quality, packaging durability, certification readiness, and cultural branding. The results show that Baiwang staff responded positively to the taste, uniqueness, and cultural narrative of the product, while also providing valuable insights into market preferences and regulatory requirements in China. The engagement demonstrates that service-based interactions significantly enhance product visibility and create pathways for international collaboration, including trial export opportunities and co-branded promotional activities. The findings conclude that strengthening local product identity in global markets requires integrated efforts among MSME actors, academic institutions, and international partners. This study contributes to broader discussions on global service trails, regional branding, and the internationalization of Indonesian MSMEs, positioning Lampung as a culturally distinctive region within the global supply chain.
