Large-scale environmentally-friendly residences have been introduced globally, but these features have not been consolidated into a unified source of information. The choices of home buyers differ according to cultural, living conditions, and personal inclinations. This study seeks to assess the level of awareness of importance environmentally friendly home attributes to prospective home purchasers in Selangor, Malaysia. The study employed purposive and random sampling techniques and an online questionnaire survey was given to potential house buyers, resulting in 288 valid responses (response rate of 75%). The findings revealed that the respondents' top three green home elements that are considered as important are energy efficiency, indoor environment quality, and innovation. This study seeks to address this gap by investigating the extent of public awareness regarding the importance of various factors related to the concept of environmentally friendly housing. This study aims to assess individuals' knowledge, attitudes, and views towards green home aspects to identify opportunities for enhancing public education and outreach activities in sustainable housing.
Educators consistently emphasize the imperative need to enhance the quality of students by focusing on the development of their competencies, aiming to produce competent students. While increasing emphasis on this aspect of education is good, it also results in a gap between competencies acquired by students and the requirement of specific fields of study. Most existing approaches are mostly suggested to adequate more on the students' self-development, while the alignment between field requirements, qualifications, and student learning outcome is explicitly addressed. This study aims to develop a competency ontology model called InCLOOM, designed to streamline the process of discovering students' competencies. This study employs an ontology-based conceptual model approach that encompasses various techniques for developing ontologies, including conceptualization, restructuring, and formalization, using the Methontology methodology as a guiding framework. The evaluation of InCLOOM was conducted using a task-based approach through the Protégé tool, ensuring accuracy and consistency. The findings suggest that InCLOOM is notable in capturing and organizing competencies to discover the student competencies and facilitate the continuous development of competencies while suggesting an improvement in addressing the disparity between university curricula and industry requirements, not just field of study. This paper only presents the development of InCLOOM, providing an overview of its overall development process.
This paper discusses the establishment of a Programme Educational Outcome (PEO) statement for the doctoral programme in the School of Electrical Engineering. In the School of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), the designated PEOs are anticipated to have a statement that supports the Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) and Malaysia Quality Accreditation (MQA) agency. It is essential to establish the PEOs, which could quantify the expected attainments of graduates a few years after graduation. First, PEOs must be aligned with the mission statement of the University and provide a true achievement to reflect the graduate attributes of the graduate within three to five years following graduation. The external stakeholder input, i.e. Malaysia Qualification Agency (MQA) and Malaysia Qualification Framework (MQF), are considered to ensure that the programme will produce the graduate within the attribute of their need and aspirations. A framework to establish the PEO based on certain criteria has been highlighted. Finally, the statement of the proposed PEO has been outlined in this naner.
Programming is an essential part of the curriculum for electrical, computer and software engineering students. Since one inevitably makes coding mistakes, it is important for programmers to develop debugging skills. However, it could be challenging for beginners to repair a non-compiling program, since programming error messages tend to be opaque, and might not directly address the error. This paper investigates the use of Large Language Models to generate plain, novice-friendly explanations of programming error messages. In an introductory course on Natural Language Processing, We evaluate the extent to which these explanations help students debug Python code with six common programming error categories. Experimental results suggest that explanations generated with zero-shot GPT-4 are effective in raising the code revision success rate.
This study addresses the underexplored role of emoticons in cross-cultural communication within higher education, focusing on undergraduates at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Malaysia and Nanchang University in China. Emoticons, increasingly popular in digital communication, present a unique lens through which to examine cultural influences on communication patterns. The research aims to analyze emoticon usage similarities and differences across these two cultural contexts, investigate their impact on enhancing cross-cultural understanding, and explore their potential as educational tools for preserving and promoting cultural heritage. Findings reveal significant cultural nuances in emoticon usage, demonstrating their ability to bridge communication gaps, enrich educational experiences, and foster cultural pride, particularly during traditional festivals. This study contributes to digital literacy and cross-cultural communication discussions, emphasizing the integration of culturally relevant emoticons in educational settings to support inclusive education and cultural heritage preservation efforts in a globalized world.
