The handmaid's tale (Hulu, 2014-2024) is a television adaptation of Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel, portraying a dystopia in which women are stripped of their rights and reduced to reproductive functions. This paper analyzes the work-both its television and literary versions- to show how it relates to current issues such as the rise of authoritarian ideologies, language manipulation, and the rollback of women's and other groups' rights. Using a qualitative approach, the study highlights how the state of Gilead operates as a metaphor for contemporary tensions derived from neoliberalism, post-truth politics, and ultraconservative discourses. It also emphasizes the role of the series in exposing social injustices and in shaping protest symbols adopted by feminist movements. For this reason, the work stands as a warning against the loss of freedoms and human rights.
This article analyzes the impact of TikTok in Mexican university classrooms from the perspective of Neil Postman's media ecology. Based on two surveys conducted in 2024 and 2025 among Mexican users who use TikTok daily, it explores changes in digital habits and their educational implications. The results show an average consumption of 2.5 hours per day and more than 90 videos per session, with entertainment prevailing over learning. The discussion reflects on how this fast-paced audiovisual logic contrasts with the traditional, deliberate interaction in higher education, creating challenges for teachers and students. The study concludes that TikTok introduces a transformative change in university dynamics.
The research examines how Guarani and Kaiowa women use ethnomedia to confront the historical silencing imposed by mainstream media, which often stigmatizes Indigenous peoples in Mato Grosso do Sul. In a context marked by territorial displacement, structural violence, and the "double subordination" faced by Indigenous women, ethnomedia emerges as a strategy of resistance and narrative autonomy. Drawing on decolonial and intersectional perspectives, the study analyzes Instagram posts by Kunangue Aty Guasu (Jan-Jun 2023), revealing how the network is used politically for mobilization, collective identity building, and challenging dominant representations, in line with Indigenous communication principles.

Contemporary society, immersed in the digital revolution, faces hyper-speed information that limits critical reflection and exacerbates social vulnerabilities. The analysis identifies the "ultimate error": the attempt to manage complex systems using linear logic, sustained by the tyranny of concreteness and the illusion of technological control. This mindset fuels practices such as algorithmic surveillance and surveillance capitalism, which progressively erode civil liberties and individual autonomy. As a cultural and strategic response, a "new humanism" is proposed that revalues the human factor and systemic ethics. This humanism focuses on the ability to "inhabit complexity," integrating error and emergence as essential heuristic resources for adaptation. Education emerges as a strategic axis, privileging knowing-how-to-be and knowing-how-to-act, forming citizens capable of coping with uncertainty and resisting the logic of hypervelocity.
This article reflects on Fairy Tales within the context of contemporary media communication, observing serialized productions like Once Upon a Time and films such as Maleficent and Descendants. The study employs a qualitative approach, exploratory and descriptive in nature. For methodological procedures, a bibliographical review was conducted, drawing on authors like Jung (2000), Campbell (2007), Vogler (2015), Jenkins (2009), and Santaella (2001), complemented by an analysis of the narratives. The aim was to investigate how these tales, as narrative and symbolic matrices, function as tools for subjective, emotional, and ethical development. The results demonstrate that, when adapted and expanded into serialized formats, these stories continue to exert their symbolic and pedagogical impact, modernizing in line with demands for more complex, ambiguous, and participatory representations.
This article investigates the challenges of institutionalization in the creative advertising process based on the concepts of institutionalization and legitimation, as proposed by Berger and Luckmann (1985). The analysis examines how consolidated standards in the advertising field shape creative practices, contributing to the standardization of campaigns and limiting innovation. Issues related to the stages of the creative process, the impact of digital technologies and the transformations in the contemporary advertising market are also discussed. Finally, the text proposes ways to reconcile efficiency and creativity, promoting originality as a strategic differentiator for brands.
In this article, we adopt a represontological perspective to analyze the representation of the anti-hero in the characters Deadpool and Kick-Ass, based on the films released from 2010 onwards. The representations of both converge on the same referent: the anti-hero. Methodologically, the research employed content analysis, demonstrating that gore is a central element in the construction of (anti)heroes- in Deadpool, concentrated in the character himself through scenes of explicit violence, and in Kick-Ass, more diffusely, within social relationships. Furthermore, we found that fictional representations strongly depend on a factual reservoir to make their contents explicit.

This study analyzes the impact of the media environment on the academic experience of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in higher education. The qualitative research is based on a systematic literature review conducted in the Scopus database, covering publications from 2010 to 2023. The objective is to identify how digital technologies, teaching platforms, and online interaction networks influence the inclusion, retention, and learning processes of this population. The results indicate that, although the planned use of digital resources enhances accessibility, autonomy, and participation, institutional, communicational, and sensory barriers still compromise full inclusion. The study proposes pedagogical practices aligned with the neurodiversity paradigm and integrated institutional policies to promote more inclusive academic environments.
With the popularization of social media, news outlets have increasingly used these platforms to disseminate content with viral potential, due to its wide reach and high engagement power. This study aims to analyze the criteria used in the selection and posting of content on the Metr & oacute;poles Instagram profile, investigating which types of posts are prioritized, which are disregarded, and what characteristics predominate in these contents. To this end, a case study was conducted on the aforementioned profile during the months of January and February 2025, based on a corpus of 10 posts. The analysis considered both the journalistic content and the followers' comments. As a result, we identified the consolidation of a new news value: viral potential. Although this aspect has long been prioritized by content creators on social media, its growing incorporation into digital journalism is now evident. We also highlight the reorientation of the gatekeeper due to gatewatching and the emergence of algorithms as curators.
This article examines the effects of algorithmic governance and disinformation within data capitalism, focusing on their consequences for freedom of expression and digital regulation. The conclusion emphasizes the need for algorithmic transparency and multi-stakeholder governance to safeguard fundamental rights.
The Piaui press was constantly marked by censorship practices, especially after the 1964 coup. However, despite the expansion of authoritarianism and censorship, there were instances of resistance in Piaui journalism since the early days ofthe dictatorship. This article analyzes censorship practices and acts of resistance in traditional Piaui journalism during the civil-military dictatorship. We analyze speeches of resistance to the coup in Teresina's media, as well as the punishments suffered by these speakers. We present an analysis of the expansion of censorship and surveillance in Piaui newsrooms, highlighting how persecution impacted the lives of journalists. Our objective isto highlight the dictatorship's authoritarian reactions against Piaui residents who, through acts of resistance in the press, were punished by the state, using a methodology based on qualitative research of official documents and dialogue with authors from history and social communication.

The aim of this article is to contribute to the fan studies to a new perspective for analyzing its main object, the fans. This new approach incorporates the concepts of rhythm and rhythmanalysis, initially provided by L & uacute;cio Alberto Pinheiro dos Santos via Bachelard (2006), and later by Lefebvre (2004). With this, it will be necessary to contextualize fan studies and its parameters (Hills, 2002; Staci, Evans, 2014; Costa, 2020), discuss the methods of rhythm for the creation of rhythmanalysis, relate the works of rhythm for social dynamics and urban space occupation in fan studies, and finally, analyze three objects present in the fan-idol relationship. Therefore, it was possible to understand rhythmic processes as a form of methodology expansion of the subfield of communication and, also, to identify new interactions executed by devotees to their objects of desire.
