This study was carried out to assess the impact of quality service on customers’ satisfaction and loyalty in some hotels in Tamale Metropolis, Ghana. A total of three hundred structured questionnaires were distributed to native and international tourists for the study. A self-employed form of survey was used to gather information from the respondents using service quality model. All the three hundred respondents answered the questions. Data were analyzed by using SPSS version 20. The results show that dimensions of quality service such as empathy, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and tangibility significantly predict customers’ loyalty. All the studies of quality service features were evaluated as influential determinants of customers’ satisfaction, which leads to customer loyalty. It is also possible to conclude that customers’ satisfaction is linked to both quality service and loyalty. The relationship between the variables was studied by applying Pearson-moment correlation analysis. The results indicate that a significant relationship exists between service quality attributes and customers’ satisfaction/ loyalty. The study therefore recommended that, hoteliers in the hotel business should offer better services to their customers to gain competitive advantage. They should not however overlook the relevance of factors such as responsiveness, assurance, reliability, tangibles and empathy. Key words: Service quality, hotel industry, customer satisfaction, customer loyalty, hoteliers.
This study aimed to assess the factors that influence the formation of entrepreneurial intentions (EIs) among college students in Zambia. The research was built on the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) by Ajzne, to identify how the constructs of the same theory are manipulated by the factors that influence entrepreneurship intention formation among college students at Northern Technical College and Kabwe Institute of Technology. Primary data were obtained from 300 students through a self-administered questionnaire and was analysed using structural equation modelling. The study findings reported a positive relationship between the independent variables in the name of risk-taking (RST), college environment (CE) and entrepreneurship education (EE) and (EIs). Attitude towards entrepreneurship (ATE) was observed to mediate the relationship between RST and EIs while subjective norms (SN) were observed to mediate the relationship between RST and EIs. Perceived behavioural control (PBC) was reported to mediate the interaction between all three independent variables and Els. The results presented both theoretical and practical implications and recommendations were made to policymakers and suggestions for future research. Key words: Entrepreneurial intention, risk-taking, college environment, entrepreneurship education.
The evolution of blockchain technology has drastically altered the provision of banking services. Businesses are currently transitioning to a paperless environment. Robots are taking over labor-intensive jobs, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is assisting in tracking any massive disaster, and biotech is assisting in curing multiple illnesses in a matter of seconds. Blockchain, one of the most important inventions of our time, is poised to assist individuals in reaching new heights of innovation in almost all domains. However, like other technologies, blockchain is confronting unique hurdles that must be overcome before widespread adoption particularly in Ghana and in Africa as a whole. This paper sought to examine the opportunities and challenges of the adoption of blockchain technology in Ghana. A qualitative technique in data gathering was employed for the purpose of this paper. The study used an interview-based technique, aimed to identify and communicate the problems that the banking sector in Ghana experiences in adopting blockchain technology. The interview took place in Ghana's capital, Accra. One representative from the Ghanaian Central Bank and nine from Commercial banks were interviewed. The paper concludes that the implementation of blockchain technology in Ghana's banking sector is being hampered by a lack of international norms or laws, high energy costs, a lack of intermediaries, poverty, corruption, a lack of infrastructure, and a lack of technical support. Key words: Adoption, banking sector, blockchain technology, financial industry, opportunities, challenges.
We proposed to identify the general situation and trends in the field of job embeddedness (JE) and affective commitment (AC), given the essential role and association between them. Relevant literature was obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection on December 30, 2022. VOSviewer and CiteSpace were used for bibliometric analysis of authors, countries, institutions, journals, co-citation and keywords. A total of 315 literatures were retrieved ultimately. The quantity of literature and citations showed an overall rising trend from 1998 to 2022, with three fluctuations in 2008, 2013 and 2019. The USA was the leading driving force in the research. The collaborative network highlighted that countries, institutions and academic teams had not collaborated enough. Keyword analysis revealed that the mediating role of JE in turnover intention, especially from a psychology and organizational behavior perspective, is a highly discussed topic, with nurses and hotel workers as the main research targets. Research on JE and AC has flourished, but more theoretical and empirical studies should be conducted to further explore this domain. Emphasis should be placed on employee psychology and organizational behavior in future research. Key words: Job embeddedness, affective commitment, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, bibliometric.
Research on the effects of internal control systems on organizational performance have been concentrated on large firms with little attention given to Small and Medium Scale Enterprises. To this end, the study examines the effect of internal control systems on the organizational performance of SMEs in Ondo State, Nigeria. The study employs survey primary data which are collected from 323 SMEs that were selected using stratified and random sampling techniques. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. The results show a significant positive relationship between internal control and all proxies of organizational performance which are business growth, survival and operational efficiency. Furthermore, internal control systems and organizational performance when all the three proxies are aggregated have positive relationship. The findings of this study suggest that internal control systems are necessary, and they should be established in SMEs' business operations for enhanced productivity, business growth and organizational performance. The study recommends the use of internal control systems by SMEs for their growth, sustainability, operational efficiency and curtailment of wastes. Also, agencies of government that provides financial support and financial advisory services to the SMEs should educate the SMEs operators on the importance of internal control systems in their business operations. Key words: Internal control systems, business growth, small and medium enterprises, operational efficiency, control environment.
The objective of this study was to examine the effect of participatory project design on project success in a government-funded project in Uganda, a case study of Parish Development in Kabale District. A cross-sectional survey was done. 75 respondents provided information, and we integrated quantitative and qualitative analysis. The analysis was conducted on three separate levels and included descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate approaches. The bivariate correlations between the dependent variable and the predictor components were examined using a Pearson correlation matrix. The dependent variable was regressed against the revised predictor factors at the multivariate level (project success). An analysis of the data was done using a linear regression model. Results of the regression analysis demonstrate that participatory project design has a beneficial effect on the effectiveness of parish development models in the Kabale District (coef = -0.780, p-value = 0.000). The main conclusion of this study is that parish development model project success in Kabale district is significantly influenced by participatory project design. In order to guarantee the sustainability of the project success of the parish development model, the study suggests that more emphasis should be placed on adopting participatory project design through defining project goals, determining results, identifying risks and constraints, and refining project strategy. Key words: Project design, project success and parish development model.
The government of Uganda came up with the micro, small and medium enterprise policy in 2015 in an effort to support SMEs for sustainable wealth creation and social economic transformation. However, the SMEs sector has grappled with wide ranging challenges and these challenges therefore threaten the survival of SMEs.This study thus investigated factors responsible for the survival of Uganda's small and medium businesses and was based on the records of the businesses from the survey done by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics.Business survival was measured from the year when the business started operations to the survey year, 2010.A time-to-event approach in a Cox Proportional Hazard Model was adopted in the analysis. There is a minimum of 1 enterprise and a maximum of 23 enterprises that can survive which were considered to exit operation with business survival was 4.85 years. It indicates a low survival rate of Uganda's businesses. The rate of exit of businesses was significantly higher for businesses located in the central region, those employing a larger number of employees, those owned by non-Ugandans, those not operating as sole proprietorship and those considered not to be innovative. The findings point to a recommendation of scaling up measures aimed at ensuring that the survival levels of businesses in the country improve.
This study's objective was to assess how lending appraisal affected SACCO performance in the District. The study's outcome variables were the performance of SACCOs, with SACCO governance serving as a predictor variable. The investigation was preceded by a cross-sectional survey. Data from 5 SACCOs with 109 respondents were collected, and both quantitative and qualitative analyses were merged. The analysis was conducted at three levels, namely: Descriptive, bivariate and multivariate analyses. Since descriptive analysis entailed description of a single variable and its attributes, frequency tables were used to present the data. At the bivariate level, a Pearson correlation matrix was conducted to ascertain the relationships between the predictor variables and the dependent variable. The dependent variable was regressed against using the updated predictor variables for loan approval at the multivariate level (performance of SACCOs). A linear regression model was used to fit the data. According to study findings from the regression model, loan appraisal (coef. = -0. 635, p-value=0.000) have a positive influence on the performance of SACCO in District. This study's main finding is that corporate governance has a big impact on SACCOS performance. The study consequently advises that more emphasis should be given to implementing corporate governance in order to ensure good performance of SACCOs in Rukiga District. Key words: Lending appraisal, performance, SACCO.
Mobile telecommunication firms have increasingly found Sub-Saharan Africa to be a favorable location for business and investment. We explore the competitive actions and responses of the multinational MNOs in three of the leading sub-regional markets: Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa based on the conventional content analysis of online-sourced data from the time the first major competitive move was made in each market until 2015.Our findings suggest that smaller, later-entrant operators seeking enhanced subscriber bases and competitive positions often initiated competitive rivalries.Defensive responses from mainly the main market leaders only resulted in further attacks, with response speed and intensity depending on the pervasiveness of the initial attack and firm strategy. The ability to preempt rivals' potential moves offered a competitive advantage whereas price undercutting, new technologies and government protection served as the main competitive weapons.Neither the initial attackers nor market defenders emerged as the absolute winner in the aggressive competitive rivalries, which also negatively affected the subscribers.
This study aimed at examining the influence of internal controls on financial accountability in GILGHS, Uganda. The study’s research design was cross-sectional. The study findings were derived from a sample of 127 health centers (unit of analysis), whose heads of department formed unit of inquiry. Data were amassed from respondents through questionnaires and their responses were aggregated to their corresponding health centers. SPSS was utilized to execute correlation and regression analysis. Subsequently, the findings demonstrated that internal controls positively and significantly predicted financial accountability. The implication is that GILGHS authorities need to reinforce a strong-willed internal control system to improve their financial accountability. The study was restricted to cross-sectional research design hence refuted the probability of generality in the context of other research designs. Future studies should consider this study within the perspective of other study designs. Besides, this study was carried out within the setting of GILGHS. Thus, the study appendage internal controls as an essential antecedent to financial accountability in GILGHS, Uganda. Key words: Internal controls, financial accountability, local government.
