Digital transformation is reshaping how small and medium enterprises operate, yet limited empirical evidence explains how digital human resource practices and flexible work arrangements jointly influence employee productivity in creative industry contexts. This study examines the effects of Digital HRM (DHRM) and Flexible Work (FW) on Employee Productivity (EP), with Work Digital Agility (WDA) conceptualized as an adaptive capability that supports employees in managing technology-driven work environments. A quantitative survey was conducted involving 520 workers from Craft Fashion MSMEs across five regencies in Bali, selected through purposive sampling to ensure adequate exposure to digital HR systems and flexible work arrangements. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to assess both direct and indirect relationships. The results indicate that DHRM has a strong and significant direct effect on EP and an even stronger effect on WDA, demonstrating that digital HR practices enhance productivity primarily by strengthening employees’ adaptive digital capabilities. Flexible Work also exhibits a positive direct effect on EP; however, its influence on WDA is not statistically significant. Furthermore, WDA significantly predicts EP and mediates the relationship between DHRM and EP, but does not mediate the effect of Flexible Work on productivity. These findings suggest that productivity improvements in digitally transforming MSMEs depend not only on technological investments and flexible work policies, but critically on the development of work digital agility as a core employee capability fostered through structured digital HR practices.
This study investigates how transformational leadership and organizational culture influence employee performance through the mediating roles of employee engagement and competency in the public sector. While leadership and culture are frequently identified as key antecedents of performance, empirical evidence explaining their indirect effects through motivational and capability-based mechanisms remains limited, particularly in developing country contexts. This study employs a quantitative research design using data collected from 314 social facilitators in Indonesia and analyzes the proposed model using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS). The findings show that both transformational leadership and organizational culture have significant direct effects on employee performance. Furthermore, competency significantly mediates the relationships between leadership, organizational culture, and performance, indicating that performance improvement is primarily driven through capability development. In contrast, employee engagement, although positively influenced by leadership and competency, does not significantly mediate the effects of leadership and culture on performance. The structural model explains 95.5% of the variance in employee performance (R² = 0.955), demonstrating strong explanatory power. Theoretically, this study integrates Social Exchange Theory and the Resource-Based View by highlighting the dominant role of competency as a transmission mechanism. Practically, the results emphasize that public sector organizations should strengthen transformational leadership and organizational culture with a strategic focus on competency development to achieve sustainable performance outcomes.
The present study creates and tests a model that explores how the quality of accounting information systems, internal control systems, and non-financial information affect success at the organizational level (i.e., success in decision-making and non-financial performance). Data from managers of 252 organizations in West Java, Indonesia, were analyzed using covariance-based structural equation modeling through linear structural relations software. It has been found that the quality of accounting information systems, internal control systems, and non-financial information has a positive relationship with decision-making performance and non-financial performance. This result implies that better internal information systems and controls, as well as non-financial information, are also useful for improving decision-making and performance in the organization. This study adds to research on the influence of accounting information system quality, internal control, and non-financial information on organizational performance and success. The pattern of results is consistent with a pathway in which internal control system quality and accounting information system quality enhance non-financial information quality, which is associated with improved decision-making success and non-financial performance. The implications of this study are useful in guiding the accounting and information management practices towards enhancing the quality of accounting information systems, internal control systems, and non-financial information. It is expected that, when advanced, the tool would provide at least a more expansive and elaborate understanding of these complex relationships, thereby enriching our knowledge and theoretical base in accounting.
Broiler chicken farming contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, presenting challenges to Indonesia’s carbon reduction goals. This study explores the motivations influencing broiler farmers in South Sulawesi to adopt low-carbon farming practices by integrating Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Key variables include external motivators (mandatory regulations, non-mandatory incentives, market opportunities, organizational participation, and knowledge capacity), farmers’ beliefs (attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control), behavioral intentions, and actual practices. A structured survey involving 860 farmers from 14 villages in two cities was conducted using a five-point Likert scale. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was applied to test the hypothesized relationships. Results show that knowledge capacity has the strongest influence on motivation, while market opportunities significantly affect attitudes and perceived behavioral control. Mandatory regulations and incentives shape attitudes and social norms but fail to enhance perceived behavioral control. Organizational participation has no significant effect. This study offers a comprehensive framework explaining how external incentives are internalized in farmers’ decision-making. The findings provide actionable insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders, suggesting the need for targeted training, improved market access, and strengthened knowledge-sharing networks to promote sustainable broiler farming and support Indonesia’s climate commitments.
This study investigates the influence of digital storytelling and entrepreneurial risk-taking on the business performance of Generation Z entrepreneurs in Indonesia, with online personal branding as a mediating variable. The research addresses the rising trend of youth entrepreneurship amid digital transformation, emphasizing the strategic role of digital identity and marketing. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing a structured questionnaire distributed to senior high school students who currently run businesses. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS was used to analyze data from 144 valid respondents across Indonesia. The findings reveal that entrepreneurial risk-taking significantly influences business performance both directly and indirectly through online personal branding. In contrast, digital storytelling does not directly impact business performance but exerts a significant effect when mediated by online personal branding. The study highlights the essential role of digital personal branding in amplifying the effects of narrative strategies and risk-oriented behavior. These findings offer new insights for educators, policymakers, and practitioners aiming to support Generation Z entrepreneurs. The research contributes to the entrepreneurship and marketing literature by integrating behavioral and digital branding constructs to explain youth business success in the digital era.
This study investigates the breadth and depth of fraud prevention disclosures among 76 Indonesian higher education institutions and explores the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing governance and early fraud detection systems. Utilizing a qualitative content analysis approach, the research assesses institutional transparency across eight critical dimensions: integrity and governance, policy, internal audit, bursary, core values, fraud prevention strategies, fraud response procedures, and awareness raising, based on publicly available data from 2025. The analysis reveals an average disclosure rate of 48.19 percent, with the lowest levels found in fraud response procedures (22.3 percent) and awareness raising (26.2 percent), while Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Jambi University (UNJA) recorded the highest disclosure levels at 85 percent. These findings expose a pronounced gap between substantial governance and implementation practices, indicating that institutions often prioritize formal compliance over substantive ethical conduct. The study highlights the urgent need for standardized disclosure frameworks at the national level, the institutionalization of AI-based analytical systems, and the reinforcement of ethical governance structures to ensure transparency and accountability. The integration of AI technologies in audit automation, anomaly detection, and ethical capacity building presents a forward-looking framework for proactive fraud prevention and governance modernization. This study extends existing fraud prevention disclosure research by integrating AI-based governance perspectives within the higher education context, which has been largely unexplored in Indonesia, and offers a strategic roadmap for policymakers and academic leaders seeking to restore public trust through integrity, regulatory coherence, and technological innovation.
This study investigates differences in innovative work behavior (IWB) between local Taiwanese employees and migrant workers in metropolitan Taiwan and examines how leader–member exchange (LMX) and job autonomy relate to IWB and task performance across groups. Survey data were collected from 449 employees across 50 large restaurant establishments in Taipei and Taichung. Our respondent background was identified as 35% local taiwanese employee and 65% migrant workers including Indonesian, Vietnamies, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, India, and Japanese. A structural equation model tested the measurement and structural relations and multi-group analyses compared paths across local and migrant workers. This study develops four-factor measurement model demonstrated acceptable fit. Structurally, LMX positively predicted IWB and task performance. Job autonomy was positively associated with IWB and task performance. IWB did not show a significant direct effect on task performance. Multi-group tests indicated that the job autonomy to IWB path was stronger and significant for migrant workers but not for local employees. Moreover, the influence of LMX to IWB and LMX to task performance did not differ significantly across groups. The study offers a fine-grained comparison of IWB drivers for local versus migrant employees in a metropolitan service context, revealing autonomy as a differential lever for migrants while underscoring the universal importance of LMX.
This study examines whether generative AI (GenAI) can operate as a personal resource that enhances employee performance by strengthening user experience, trust, and work engagement. It tests if trust mediates the link between GenAI user experience and engagement and, in turn, performance. An explanatory sequential mixed‐methods design is used. Study 1 surveys 251 Indonesian professionals who use GenAI at work and estimates a covariance-based structural equation model. Constructs draw on TRI (optimism, innovativeness), TAM (usefulness, ease of use), trust, work engagement and employee performance. Study 2 gathers expert insights from 69 full professors in management to interpret and enrich the quantitative results. Optimism and innovativeness positively influence GenAI user experience, with optimism showing the stronger effect. User experience significantly increases trust, and trust significantly predicts work engagement. The direct path from user experience to engagement is not significant; instead, trust fully mediates this relationship. Work engagement, in turn, significantly improves employee performance. Experts corroborate the centrality of trust, emphasizing reliability, transparency, and fit-for-purpose use as prerequisites for sustained productivity gains. Cross-sectional data limit causal inference; future longitudinal and cross-cultural studies are encouraged. Extending the model to incorporate JD–R “loss cycle” variables (e.g., job demands, technostress, exhaustion) would deepen understanding of boundary conditions. Organizations should invest in capability building, clear guardrails, and verification workflows; vendors should improve transparency, provenance cues and controllability to earn user trust. Leaders play a pivotal role in positioning GenAI as an assistive resource and in instituting quality checks that convert usage into engagement and performance. The paper integrates TRI and TAM within a JD–R lens to show that trust is the decisive mechanism translating GenAI experience into engagement and performance. It reframes GenAI as a personal resource whose value materializes only when trust is deliberately cultivated.
Despite extensive research on social media marketing, evidence linking social media use to marketing performance outcomes remains inconsistent and inconclusive, particularly in emerging markets and among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This study aims to examine the effect of social media use on marketing performance by simultaneously examining the mediating roles of social commerce branding and social commerce targeting. A survey-based research design was employed, targeting SMEs in Banyumas Regency, Indonesia, that actively utilize social commerce. Using purposive sampling, 172 valid responses were collected. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS to assess validity, reliability, and structural relationships. The results indicate that social media use does not directly enhance marketing performance; instead, its influence is primarily transmitted through social commerce branding, demonstrating a strong partial mediation effect. Social commerce targeting, although positively associated with marketing performance, failed to mediate the relationship between social media use and performance, highlighting distinct mediation pathways. These findings advance the social commerce literature by integrating branding and targeting as competing mediators and providing empirical evidence from an emerging economic context. Managerially, these results suggest that SMEs should prioritize branding-related strategies such as user-generated content and digital community building to improve marketing performance while gradually strengthening targeting capabilities.
The coal mining industry, responsible for 80% of global energy, faces significant challenges. This study integrates environmental and economic perspectives to assess how environmental footprint analysis using Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) can create eco-efficiency and improving firm value in coal firms. We also investigate how internationalization and state ownership influence the relationship between eco-efficiency and firm value. Analysing 1010 data set from 220 companies across major coal-exporting countries (Indonesia, Australia, Russia, the USA, and South Africa) using SFA and Fixed Effect Ordinary Least Square (FE-OLS), this study finds that considering environmental footprint models contributes to eco-efficiency. Furthermore, eco-efficiency positively influences firm value, with this relationship being strengthened by the degree of internationalization and state ownership. Our findings suggest that focusing on eco-efficiency can help coal mining firms align with sustainability goals while enhancing firm value. This research offers practical insights for policymakers and industry leaders to address environmental and business challenges in the coal sector.
Governments around the world are moving towards embracing industrial revolution 4.0. With the advancement of technology and the increased connectivity of people in the hypernet of industry 4.0, it is important to understand how guerrilla marketing can adapt to these changes. This study aims to examine the differences between guerrilla commercials by industry 4.0 companies and those by traditional companies, using a research framework based on viral marketing literature. The study examined 56 viral commercials shared on social media in Indonesia from 2016-2020, and identified four key differences. Firstly, it was found that ICT companies commonly employ themes such as humanism, social justice, parody, sadness, animation, and funny videos in their commercials. Secondly, these companies aim to evoke curiosity, humor, neutrality, and sympathy in their viewers. Thirdly, they tend to avoid negative emotions such as horror and anger in their advertisements. Finally, ICT companies tend to advertise more on online platforms. The analysis of the data provides valuable insights for companies intending to use guerrilla marketing as a strategy to enter industry 4.0.
This study investigates the influence of Inclusive Economic Education on the empowerment of local tourism MSMEs in Labuan Bajo, with Innovation as a mediating variable and Human Capital as a moderator. Using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach, data were collected from MSME owners engaged in the local tourism industry. The results indicate that Inclusive Economic Education significantly enhances both Innovation and the empowerment of MSMEs. Furthermore, Innovation directly contributes to MSME empowerment and serves as a robust mediator between education and empowerment. The moderating effect of Human Capital is also significant, strengthening the relationship between Inclusive Economic Education and MSME empowerment. These findings align with the Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT), emphasizing how knowledge dissemination and human capacity foster innovation adoption within small enterprises. Statistically, the model demonstrates strong explanatory power, with R² values of 0.808 and 0.708 for MSME empowerment and Innovation, respectively. Practically, the results highlight the need for comprehensive educational interventions supported by human resource development to achieve sustainable local entrepreneurship. The study offers theoretical, practical, and policy insights while also identifying avenues for future research involving broader geographic scopes and longitudinal analysis.
This research investigates the relationship between the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, process improvements, and technology adoption as independent variables; operational performance as the dependent variable; and dynamic digital literacy as the moderating variable. Employing a quantitative methodology, as well as the PLS-SEM (Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling) technique, the author analyzes data collected from 105 operational respondents from Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) based in Yogyakarta. The data indicate that ERP, process improvement, and the adoption of technology have a positive influence on operational performance. Moreover, dynamic digital literacy is a mediator that strengthens the relationship between these variables and operational performance. Increased digital literacy enables employees to more easily adopt the technologies and processes necessary for enhanced business efficiency. There is a growing recognition of the need to improve the digital literacy skills of employees in the context of supporting the organization’s digital transformation. Those organizations that seek to advance their employees' digital literacy skills will, in turn, strengthen their ability to utilize technology for enhanced operational performance and greater market competitiveness.
This study develops and empirically tests the Extended Brand Value Competitiveness Chain (BVCC) model in the context of Indonesian SMEs, particularly batik enterprises in Pekalongan. The model integrates the concepts of brand differentiation, brand value, and brand competitiveness, while introducing SMEs Digital Brand Learning as a moderating variable grounded in learning theory, organizational knowledge creation theory, and Nonaka’s SECI model. Using a quantitative explanatory design with survey data from 273 SMEs, the study applies Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to examine direct and moderating effects. The findings confirm that brand differentiation significantly enhances both brand value and brand competitiveness, while brand value positively influences competitiveness. Furthermore, SMEs Digital Brand Learning strengthens the impact of brand differentiation and brand value on competitiveness, underscoring the importance of continuous knowledge acquisition and application in the digital era. This research extends the applicability of the BVCC model to SMEs, highlights the role of digital learning in overcoming knowledge gaps, and provides practical insights for SME managers to build sustainable competitiveness through branding in Industry 4.0.
The adoption of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) for converting extensive textual data into strategic knowledge has emerged as a significant trend within business research. While prior studies acknowledge the operational applications of GenAI, its role in offering strategic decision-making support remains underexplored. This study presents a novel social listening framework powered by GenAI that combines advanced text analysis methods, specifically: (a) Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), a variant of Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) capable of identifying long-range dependencies through its memory mechanisms, and (b) Google’s Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT). The proposed model leverages bi-directional contextual learning to extract deeper insights from large-scale textual datasets, enabling the transformation of user-generated content into actionable knowledge. These insights are intended to guide managers in enhancing customer experiences and supporting decision-making processes within phygital retail environments.
