The integration of digital technologies into children's daily lives raises concerns regarding their psychosocial effects. This descriptive, cross-sectional, mixed-methods study analyzed the relationship between the use of social media and video games and the emotional well-being and social interaction of students aged 8 to 11 in Asunción, Paraguay, using interviews with children and questionnaires for parents. The results revealed frequent use of mobile devices to access Roblox, FIFA, Minecraft, TikTok, and WhatsApp. Although the children experience joy, they also express frustration, anger, and anxiety in response to restrictions and overwhelmingly prefer face-to-face interaction; some show signs of isolation. Parents reported mood swings, reduced academic performance, and sleep disturbances linked to prolonged usage. In conclusion, a close relationship is observed between the use of digital technologies and children's emotional and social well-being.
This study investigates whether the use of artificial intelligence (AI) introduces gender bias in the selection of candidates for jobs in the Bajío Region. A counterfactual exercise was conducted in which the CV were evaluated twice: first using with the original name and then changing the candidate’s gender. This allowed to isolate the effect of gender bias by a large language model (ChatGPT). Results show that AI evaluates men’s CV more favorably for the position with the greatest level of responsibility; however, for other positions, it evaluates women’s CV more favorably. This indicates that the use of AI in CV screening for the labor market introduces bias against women for positions with greater responsibility and bias against men for positions with lower levels of responsibility.
This work develops and validates a state of charge (SoC) estimation system for an autonomous agricultural robot, based on Coulomb counting and LoRa wireless communication. The system integrates ACS758LCB-100B current sensors and FZ0430 voltage sensors with an ESP32 TTGO LoRa32 microcontroller, which acquires data, estimates the SoC in real-time, and transmits it to a base station. Calibration was performed with controlled discharges using a BD380 discharger, applying levels of 5, 10, and 15 A and voltages between 4 and 12 V. A linear response was obtained with errors lower than 6% in current and 1% in voltage, as well as a SoC correspondence greater than 96% relative to the references. Dynamic tests on the robot showed variability lower than 4%. It is concluded that the system is accurate, repeatable, and low-cost for energy monitoring in agricultural robots.
The automotive industry is under constant pressure to optimize production processes, minimize costs, and meet market demand. This study examines the integration of discrete event simulation, using Promodel software, with the Theory of Constraints (TOC) to analyze and improve performance in complex manufacturing systems. The objective is to identify critical variables affecting throughput in the heavy truck assembly process. The variables considered include 1) work-in-process inventory, 2) labor costs, 3) takt time, 4) rework, 5) operating expenses, and 6) installed workstation capacity. Through simulation and constraint-based analysis, the study seeks to determine which factors exert the most significant influence on throughput (Y). The results aim to support strategic decision-making by proposing improvement scenarios that enhance resource allocation and production efficiency. This integrated approach provides a quantitative basis for identifying bottlenecks and formulating interventions that drive productivity in high-demand industrial environments.
A systematic review of the scientific literature is presented to identify the effects on human health associated with neonicotinoid pesticides. The review selected three databases (PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus) and applied a systematic literature analysis. The health effects were compared with what was reported in the Safety Data Sheets of neonicotinoids marketed in Mexico. Results show that: a) neonicotinoids have significant and multisystemic effects on human health, b) the safety data sheets omit part of the effects documented by the literature and are not updated, and c) the Mexican legislative framework shows significant gaps that allow the continuity of the use of neonicotinoids, even when they are prohibited in other countries.
