This article examines the potential of Catalan picturebooks as vehicles for knowledge and transmission of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Based on the analysis of a corpus comprising 34 picturebooks that were either awarded or nominated for the Premi Llibreter, the study identifies the presence and literary treatment of the different SDGs. The results reveal a clear prevalence of themes related to the pillars of People, Peace, and Prosperity, with particular attention to issues such as inequality, diversity, historical memory, and education for coexistence. In contrast, areas such as innovation, energy, or decent work are scarcely represented. Through the analysis of works such as Els invisibles, Parlo com el riu, Papallona, and La cerca de la Colette, the study demonstrates how the interaction between text and image allows for addressing relevant issues with aesthetic sensitivity and symbolic depth, to promote a critical and transformative perspective.
The objective of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of human translation (HT) and machine translation (MT) in relation to a specific category of phraseological units: somatic idioms. For that purpose, we used the triple-aligned English-Catalan subcorpus of COVALT composed of 36 texts of narrative literature: the original texts in English, their translations into Catalan, and the MT into Catalan made with a MT system trained specifically for literary texts. A search was made for 5 lemmas in English and their equivalents in Catalan, and a corpus of 607 phraseological units was obtained, which were subsequently classified according to a list of translation techniques for phraseological units. The results show that, although phraseological loss is observed in both HT and MT, the loss is much greater in the case of MT and the percentages are more balanced in the case of HT.
The reality of the Spanish Civil War is a complex subject of analysis that forces us to approach one of the darkest periods of Spain's recent history. The other, seen in a Manichaean way as an antagonist, is confronted as part of the problem of the in-group itself, which prefers to fight against those who are different rather than face its internal problems. The cruelty and wickedness of the human being were thus deployed in a conflict that has marked the collective memory of an entire society. Our aim in this paper is to study how the memory of the red terror was novelized by Joan Sales in his work Incerta gl & ograve;ria from the study of the processes of otherness that underlie the narrative of this author.
The increasing linguistic diversity in educational settings raises important questions about how learners with different linguistic backgrounds access and organize their lexicon in a foreign language. This study compares the mental lexicon structure of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners with monolingual backgrounds (L2 learners) and heritage bilingual backgrounds (L3 learners) through semantic fluency tasks and network analysis. No significant quantitative differences in vocabulary production were found. However, some qualitative diffe-rences at the microscopic level, concerning specific responses, could be attested. These findings highlight the role of linguistic proficiency in structuring the lexicon. The study contributes to second language acquisition theories and provides insights for pedagogical strategies tailored to multilingual EFL learners.
