Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), as an underlying factor associated with reproductive problems, has a high prevalence in obese women. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet on biomarkers of oocyte reserve and insulin resistance in obese women with PCOS. Materials and methods: A total of 40 obese women with PCOS were randomly divided into four groups: control, DASH diet, interval training, and interval training+DASH diet. The HIIT was performed for eight weeks (three sessions in a week are performed in supervised forms, and two sessions in a week are performed in unsupervised forms). Diet groups followed the DASH diet for eight weeks. Anti-Müllerian (AMH) and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index were measured before and 48 h after the last training session and healthy diet. The analysis of data was performed using the factor analysis of variance test at a significance level of P<0.05. Results: The effect of HIIT exercise (F=0.27; P=0.15) and DASH diet (F=0.16; P=0.69) alone and the effect of exercise×diet (F=1.07; P=0.33) on AMH level were not significant. However, the HIIT exercise (F=26.7; P=0.001) and DASH diet (F=100.1; P=0.0001) alone and exercise×diet (F=45.8; P=0.001) significantly reduced insulin resistance. Conclusion: It seems that HIIT exercise (P=0.15) and DASH diet (P=0.69) are not effective for the reduction of the AMH hormone; however, HIIT and DASH can be used to improve insulin resistance in obese women with PCOS.
Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the causes of infertility. In Iranian traditional medicine, the imbalance of Mizaj in the individual or uterine Mizaj is considered one of the causes of infertility. The study aimed to determine the status of personal and uterine Mizaj in women with PCOS in 2021. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, after obtaining written informed consent, 96 eligible women aged 20-40 years attending comprehensive health centers in Nahavand City (Iran) were selected using convenience sampling. Participants first completed the Mojahedi Mizaj Questionnaire (MMQ). Subsequently, through clinical examination (evaluating cervical moisture or dryness, and palpation of the lower abdomen, among other parameters), the Uterine Mizaj Questionnaire was administered. Results: The most prevalent simple personal Mizaj among participants regarding hot and cold Mizaj was cold, observed in 78.1% (n=75). For moist and dry Mizaj, the moist Mizaj was most common, found in 52.1% (n=50). Among compound personal Mizaj, the most frequent was cold and moist, observed in 42.7% (n=41). Regarding uterine Mizaj, 81.3% (n=78) had a cold simple uterine Mizaj, and 63.5% (n=61) exhibited a moist uterine Mizaj. The most common compound uterine Mizaj was cold and moist, present in 56.3% (n=54). A statistically significant relationship was observed between personal Mizaj and uterine Mizaj (P<0.001). Conclusion: The most common single Mizaj in the uterus was cold among cold and hot Mizaj, and wet Mizaj among wet and dry Mizaj. Among compound Mizaj, the most common personal and uterine Mizaj was cold and wet.
Introduction: Cancer and its treatments are associated with extensive physical and psychological problems and complications, including pain, which, if ignored, disrupts a person’s life. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of Shiatsu massage on pain during chemotherapy in breast cancer patients. Materials and Methods: The participants in this clinical trial were 70 females with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. They were then randomly assigned to two groups of Shiatsu message and control. In addition to routine ward care, 15 minutes after the onset of chemotherapy, these subjects received Shiatsu massage in three 5-minute periods with a 2-minute break between each period. On the other hand, the control group received only touch without pressure. The pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analogue Scale before and after each chemotherapy in both groups. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 16). Results: The results of the Wilcoxon test show that the mean pain changes in the intervention group decreased from 6.83±2.43 to 3.26±1.9, and in the control group, the mean pain increased from 4.91±2.54 to 5.83±2.68, and both are significant (P<0.05). Moreover, the mean pain reduction in the intervention group is 3.571±2.38, and the mean pain increase in the control group is 0.914±1.85. Conclusion: Shiatsu massage is a suitable and safe intervention for pain management of patients undergoing chemotherapy, which can be used as a complementary method along with other treatments.
Introduction: Cancer is a disease that occurs due to uncontrollable cell division under the influence of genetic and environmental factors. Nowadays, various methods of chemotherapy and radiotherapy are used for treating different types of cancer, but they come with significant drawbacks. Since chemotherapeutic drugs are synthetic and have numerous side effects for patients, many researchers propose the use of natural extracts derived from plants. The present study aimed to conduct a comparative examination of the physiological and anticancer properties of Gundelia tournefortii L. plants harvested from three regions in Javanroud, Kermanshah (Iran) on HL-60 cancer cells. Methods: In the present study, information related to geographical location, annual precipitation, and weather characteristics was collected. Additionally, soil characteristics and physiological properties of plants were investigated. Then, an extract was made from the stem of the plant, and the effect of the extract with different concentrations on HL-60 cancer cells was studied using an MTT assay. Results: The results indicated that pH, EC, Ca, Mg, Na, and K were variable in the compared areas. Moreover, the amounts of chlorophyll A, Chlorophyll B, and carotenoid significantly differed in the three regions. However, anthocyanin, sugars, and phenol did not show considerable changes. Regarding the effect of plant extract on cancer cells, the results indicated that the plant extract extracted from the Ghori Qala and Khanumabad regions has a more substantial effect on killing cancer cells compared to the plant extract extracted from the Nahrab region. Conclusion: It seems that there are more anti-cancer compounds in the Ghori Qala and Khanumabad plants than in the Nahrab area.
Introduction: The purpose of the present study was to determine the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy on impulsivity and rumination in patients with trichotillomania disorder. Methods: The present research employed a semi-experimental method, utilizing a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of this research included all patients with trichotillomania disorder who were referred to the specialized skin and hair treatment centers in the 2nd and 4th districts of Tehran (Iran) in 2022. The research sample consisted of 30 people, selected with informed consent using the convenience sampling method, and were randomly assigned to two groups, experimental (n=15) and control (n=15), using a lottery method. The subjects responded to Massachusetts General Hospital Hair Pulling, Impulsiveness, and Rumination Scales before and after the intervention. Dialectical behavior therapy was performed in 10 sessions of 60 min and twice a week in the experimental group, and during this period, the control group did not receive any treatment. Data analysis was performed using mean, standard deviation, and covariance analysis by the SPSS (version 24) software. Results: The results indicated that dialectical behavior therapy affected impulsivity and rumination (P<0.01). The mean ± standard deviation of the impulsivity variable in the pre-test phase decreased from 3.98±60.55 to 4.41±56.11 in the post-test phase. Moreover, the mean ± standard deviation of the rumination variable in the pre-test phase decreased from 3.83±60.72 to 3.76±56.72 in the post-test phase. Conclusion: According to the findings, dialectical behavior therapy was effective in reducing impulsivity and rumination in patients with trichotillomania disorder. Therefore, dialectical behavior therapy can be suggested as a suitable intervention to reduce problems in patients with trichotillomania disorder.
