Materiał i metody Badanie obejmowało 117 dorosłych biorców (31,6% z wątroby, 68,4% z nerek), którzy przeszli transplantację w kilku polskich ośrodkach transplantacyjnych w okresie od lutego do maja 2025 roku. Wśród strategii samokształcenia, jedynie czytanie literatury medycznej było istotnie powiązane z lepszym przygotowaniem do przestrzegania zaleceń i podejmowania codziennej aktywności fizycznej.
Aim of the research This study aimed to assess the impact of the level and type of physical activity in hypertensive patients on health behaviours, blood pressure control, and pharmacological treatment, as well as to provide preliminary data for future population-based research. Material and methods The study included 70 patients with arterial hypertension (59% women, 41% men), divided into two age groups: 45–59 and 60 years old. Conducted at the Municipal Hospital in Bielsko-Biala (May–November 2023), the study used a 36-question survey addressing physical activity, treatment, and anthropometric data. Data were analysed using Microsoft Excel and Python, with ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD tests; significance was set at p < 0.05. Results and conclusions The effect of physical activity and pharmacotherapy on blood pressure was evaluated in 5 patient groups. ANOVA showed no significant differences in systolic pressure reduction (p = 0.666) but revealed significant differences for diastolic pressure (p = 0.003). The greatest diastolic pressure reduction occurred in younger patients combining pharmacological treatment with physical activity. Participation in cardiac rehabilitation significantly improved blood pressure control and encouraged healthier lifestyle behaviours among hypertensive patients.
Introduction A well documented transformation from a choroidal nevus to melanoma is uncommon. Aim of the research To report a series of choroidal melanocytic lesions diagnosed at the Ocular Oncology Service, Department of Ophthalmology, Poznan University of Medical Studies, Poland, presenting initially low-risk features for malignancy, which transformed into choroidal melanomas. Material and methods Retrospective data analysis of patients with choroidal nevi without major features for growth (thickness over 2 mm in ultrasound (US), subretinal fluid (SRF), orange pigment). Lesions were evaluated at all visits using multimodal imaging (colour and autofluorescence fundus photography, OCT, and US measurements) until the melanoma diagnosis. We measured alterations in thickness, growth rate (GR) and tumour doubling time (TDT) and across the consecutive visits. Results We identified 11 lesions with a median thickness of 0.95 mm at presentation (range: 0.3–1.9 mm). The median observation time until transformation was 47 months (range: 17–99 months). Ten (91%) lesions showed lipofuscin accumulation, 8 (73%) grew in thickness over 2 mm in US, 8 (73%) were diagnosed with SRF and 6 (54%) extended in their longitudinal diameter. The median overall GR was 0.67 mm/year (range: 0.0–3.4 mm/year) and the median overall TDT was 884 days (range: 167–3719 days). On follow-up, majority of lesions presented heterogenous GR and TDT, and at the time of fastest growth, median GR was 1.88 mm/year (range: 0.0–5.6 mm/year) and median TDT was 201 days (range: 83–3044 days). Conclusions Choroidal nevus may transform into choroidal melanoma after years of stability and therefore should undergo a regular follow-up. Careful monitoring of GR and TDT may aid the diagnosis of malignant transformation.
Introduction Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women worldwide. Mastectomy remains a frequently applied treatment method; however, it may considerably affect physical, emotional, and social well being. Assessing health related quality of life (HRQoL) in this population is essential for planning supportive care. Aim of the research To assess the quality of life of women after mastectomy using standardized questionnaires (QLQ-C30 and QLQ BR23). Material and methods The study included 263 women after mastectomy, recruited through Amazon Clubs and oncology centers in Poland. Data were collected using a proprietary questionnaire and the EORTC QLQ C30 and QLQ BR23 instruments. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients (r) were calculated. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results Women reported difficulties across physical, emotional, cognitive, and social domains. Emotional distress was significantly associated with poorer functioning and greater symptom severity in the QLQ C30 and BR23 subscales. Older age and longer time since surgery showed statistically significant negative correlations with numerous functioning domains, indicating lower functioning and in these domains. Sexual functioning and interest in sexual life were among the lowest rated areas. Conclusions Mastectomy is associated with poorer HRQoL in women, particularly in emotional, physical, and social functioning. Older age and longer time since surgery are associated with poorer functioning, highlighting the need for long term supportive care. Psychological distress was associated with multiple HRQoL domains, emphasizing the importance of psycho oncological support.
