We present the results of a speckle interferometric multiplicity survey of bright members of six OB associations: Per OB2, Per OB3 (alpha Per), CasTau, Lac OBI, Cep OB2, and Cep OB6.The observations were made with the diffraction spatial resolution of the 6-m BTA telescope in the period 2007-2016. To prepare the sample of 390 targets, we made use of the association member lists formed by de Zeeuw et al. (1999) using the Hipparcos astrometric data. The majority of the targets in the list (65%) fall into the category of intermediate -mass stars A5 B4, while only 77 objects (20%) refer to massive 0 and early B stars. We discovered 35 new binaries among the association members. Using the results of speckle interferometry, together with the literature and catalogue data on wide astrometric binaries, spectroscopic pairs and occultation binaries, we found that the average fraction of binaries and multiples (frequency of multiple systems) in the six associations is 0.28. The average number of components per star is 0.34. We established that the mass ratio distribution of the studied systems follows f(q) proportional to q gamma with gamma = 0.7 +/- 0.2, in the range q = 0.3-1.0. Below q = 0.3, the difficulties of the detection of low -mass companions lead to uncertainties in the distribution.
The results of our speckle interferometric observations of young binaries VY Tau and XZ Tau are presented. For the first time, we found a relative displacement of VY Tau components as well as a preliminary orbit for XZ Tau. It appeared that the orbit is appreciably non-circular and is inclined by i ≲ 47◦ from the plane of the sky. It means that the rotation axis of XZ Tau A and the axis of its jet are significantly non-perpendicular to the orbital plane. We found that the average brightness of XZ Tau had been increasing from the beginning of the last century up to the mid-thirties and then it decreased by ΔB > 2 mag. The maximal brightness has been reached significantly later on the time of periastron passage. The total brightness of XZ Tau’s components varied in a non-regular way from 1970 to 1985 when eruptions of hot gas from XZ Tau A presumably had occurred. In the early nineties the variations became regular following which a chaotic variability had renewed. We also report that a flare activity of VY Tau has resumed after 40 yr pause, parameters of the previous and new flares are similar, and the flares are related with the A component.
To explain the nature of the high reddening (Av~10 mag) towards one of the most luminous stars in the Galaxy - Cyg OB2 #12 (B5 Ia-0), also known as MT304, we carried out spectro-photometric observations of 24 stars located in its vicinity. We included five new B-stars among the members of Cygnus OB2, and for five more photometrically selected stars we spectroscopically confirmed their membership. We constructed the map of interstellar extinction within 2.5 arcmin radius and found that interstellar extinction increases towards MT304. According to our results the most reddened OB-stars in the association after MT304 are J203240.35+411420.1 and J203239.90+411436.2, located about 15 arcsec away from it. Interstellar extinction towards these stars is about 9 mag. The increase of reddening towards MT304 suggests that the reddening excess may be caused by the circumstellar shell ejected by the star during its evolution. This shell absorbs 1 mag, but its chemical composition and temperature are unclear. We also report the detection of a second component of MT304, and discovery of an even fainter third component, based on data of speckle interferometric observations taken with the Russian 6-m telescope.
We present the results of photometric observations of the weak magnetic white dwarf WD 0009+501. The observations were carried out for two years with the 1-m telescopes of the Special and Crimean Astrophysical Observatories. As a result of these observations, we detected regular V -band luminosity variations with a period of P ≈ 8 hours. The amplitude of the variability is stable on timescales greater than two years and amounts to 11 ± 1 mmag. The difference in the variability amplitude from observations with different telescopes is 1–3 mmag. The result is interpreted within the concept of a rotation-modulated variability of magnetic properties of the star’s atmosphere. We also discuss a possible variability due to the presence of planetary companions around stars of this type. The results of monitoring were used to explore the capabilities of the telescopes for exoplanet investigation. We studied the dependences between the characteristic times of exposures, magnitudes of the objects, and a threshold level of the expected variability amplitudes for all the telescopes involved in our program. A program of exoplanet monitoring with the mentioned telescopes was drawn up for the next few years based on the results of the study.
We present the results of speckle interferometric observations of 156 stars possessing global magnetic fields, carried out with the 6-m BTA telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory. Virtually all stars were observed between 2010 and 2012. Thirty-four stars were resolved into individual components (31 double and 3 triple), of which 14 binary systems (BD+41° 43, HD2887, HD30466, HD36540, HD36955, HD37479, HD61045, HD89069, HD 144334, HD 164258, HD349321, HD343872, HD 184471, HD 196691) and 2 triple systems (HD37140, HD338226) were for the first time resolved by the astrometric method.
In this paper we present the orbital elements of Linus satellite of 22 Kalliope asteroid. Orbital element determination is based on the speckle interferometry data obtained with the 6-m BTA telescope operated by SAO RAS. We processed 9 accurate positions of Linus orbiting around the main component of 22 Kalliope between 10 and 16 December, 2011. In order to determine the orbital elements of the Linus we have applied the direct geometric method. The formal errors are about 5 mas. This accuracy makes it possible to study the variations of the Linus orbital elements influenced by different perturbations over the course of time. Estimates of six classical orbital elements, such as the semi-major axis of the Linus orbit a = 1109 +/- 6 km, eccentricity e = 0.016 +/- 0.004, inclination i = 101 degrees +/- 1 degrees to the ecliptic plane and others, are presented in this work. The parameters of the quadruple system ADS 9626 (µ Boo) are analyzed. The system consists of two double stars: the Aa pair with an angular separation of ρ = 0.08″ and the BC pair with an angular separation of ρ = 2.2″, separated by ρ = 107″ and having the same parallaxes and proper motions. Position observations with the Pulkovo 26″ refractor have yielded from direct astrometric measurements the difference in the apparent magnitudes and the component-mass ratio for the BC subsystem: Δm = 0.59 ± 0.06, M(B)/M(C) = 1.18 ± 0.02. Spectroscopy with the Russian-Turkish 1.5-m telescope has yielded the radial velocities and physical parameters of the Aa, B, and C components. Speckle-interferometric observations with the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory have provided the first measurements of the magnitude difference in the close Aa subsystem: Δm = 0.46 ± 0.03 (λ = 5500 Å) and Δm = 0.41 ± 0.03 (λ = 8000 Å). The new observations are consistent with the known orbits, which were used to find the radial velocities for the centers of mass of the inner subsystems. Themotion of the outer pair, Aa-BC, is studied using the apparent motion parameters (AMP) method. It is not possible to derive an elliptical orbit for this pair; the elements of a hyperbolic orbit have been estimated. The difference of the heavy-element abundances for the Aa and BC subsystems of 0.5 dex confirms that these pairs have a different origin. This suggests that we are observing here a close encounter of two binary stars.
We present the measurements of positional parameters of 194 nearby binary stars performed at the 6-m BTA telescope of the SAO RAS from 2002 through 2006 applying the speckle interferometric technique. The observations were conducted at central filter wavelengths ranging from 545 to 800 nm using a speckle interferometer equipped with a fast CCD and a three-stage image intensifier. A significant part of the observed systems (80 stars) are pairs, the duality of which was discovered or suspected from the Hipparcos satellite observations. The remaining stars are visual binaries and interferometric binary systems with orbital motion period estimates from several to tens of years, as well as the pairs with slow relative motion of the components, used for gaging the image scales and positional angle calibrations.
We present the results of speckle interferometric observations of 273 magnetic stars most of which are Ap/Bp type. All observations were made at the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. We resolved 58 binary and 5 triple stars into individual components. Almost half of these stars were astrometrically resolved for the first time. The fraction of speckle interferometric binaries/multiples in the sample of stars with confirmed magnetic fields is 23 fraction of binaries/multiples in the sample with account for spectroscopic short-period systems and wide common proper motion pairs can be twice higher. The detected speckle components have a prominent peak in the ρ distribution that corresponds to the closest resolved pairs.
